Yep, it's 1/16, it's R/C, and it'll fly! After having built several R/C planes and flown them succesfully, I'm going all the way... it's got tricycle landing gear... it's a twin... it's a warbird... it's.....

A P-38!!!!!!!!!

I bought the kit a couple of weeks ago, but didn't realize til tonight that it's 1/16 scale (actaully 1/16.5, but that's picking nits.) I hope to have it done this winter. I'll defenitly post pics when it's done. I'll try to post some video of it too somewheres. :excited: :woohoo:

That's friggin' awesome :nice: Just imagine one of those flying overhead during a tank battle! Especially a plane with a working bombadier

If stupid Tamiya had sense, they would've built their semis 1:16 like Weidco so it would go with their tanks! I lost interest in finishing my custom big rig since it would be out of scale with my tanks

Well, I finally started it! :excited: I wouldn't even be posting it if it were not 1/16 scale. I hope everyone doesn't mind that it's an airplane. This is the P-38's left boom:

Anything rc goes in here. What are you planning on powering it with?

Two small outrunner style brushless motors and a 1300mAh two cell lithium polymer battery. This should give it a thrust/weight ratio better than a real P-38, but I can take it easy on the throttle in the air to give a scale appearance in flight. However, I can open up the throttles in an emergency to avoid a scale appearing crash...

Thats the Guillow's kit, right?

They make a bunch that are 3/4" to the foot, aka 1/16 scale. Not cheap though, anywhere from $30 and up. If I remember right, the P38 is #2001, and all the other 1/16's are the 400 series babies.

I have one of the older Comet kits, a rather rare J3 Cub recon-spotter (as seen in Battle of the Bulge) and just recently got a V1 kit. If my health improves in Jan, I hope to begin both and have them on display with my V2's by the time the snow is gone.

OH... you want a V1 Doodlebug? RepliKit in the UK has them, gorgeous laser-cut (as well as many other kits) Be warned, they are all Jetex/Rapier rocket-powered kits, so mods for electric flight might be a task. My V1 will be a display, or at best, a catapult-launched glider. I may power the Cub, but depends on how well I assemble her.

I think Tower has the Graupner Fieseler Storch park flier, and its almost scale... its the Axis counterpart to the Cub.

Now if I could only get the guts and funds for a micro-electric chopper...

Actually, it's from an outfit called LaserArts. This kit is designed with the intention that it is going to fly as an RC plane. I haven't really looked at the Guillow's before.

I've heard that the Storch kit doesn't fly very well. :unknow:

No, not yet! Taking quite a bit of time. I keep getting distracted, but I actually started working on it again. Here is the present state of affairs: Electronics installed (motor, ESCs, servos), stabilizers covered, engine cowls covered, start on covering the wing today. Won't be long now...
