has anyone thought of any alternatives to the stock chains. they stretch over and require maintenace. how about using the chain from !/5 schale motorcycle chains or touring car belts. im sure you wold have to modifly the sprockets but maybe these alternatives would be more sturdy

IMO anything that wouldnt stretch under relatively low stress running would be great.... actually IMO I would prefer more tranny reduction and direct drive sprockets like on a tank, the exposed chain drive is a real weakness... only thing is you couldnt then have the drive sprockets so far forwards...

Sprockets for # 25 chain (I believe this is what they use? It's common, 1/4" pitch stuff) would be easy enough to find: https://sdp-si.com/eStore/ has chain & sprockets in lots of sizes. Chris |

I'm going to try the .1475 pitch roller chain, as me no fan of ladder chains either! Some Ti sprockets are being made up, as are Delrin-lined Aluminum hub shafts. I'll keep ya posted: It'll show up in my DF-300 thread too. Chris |

Mc master carr has a wide selection of small chains that may work, i used to ref this selection alot when i was designing some larger snowcat type projects. http://www.mcmaster.com/param/dsc/dsc.aspx?dsc=Roller+Chain&WRQuickLinks=Roller+Chain havent had time to break out the calipers and mesure the setup but some type of chain there should fit the bill, they do have some real miniture size roller chains. |

ok good idea but your sprocket is plastic i find it better to have something weaker than the main part because if it breakes it will not break the sprocket if you know what i mean. |
