I've been running my Pershings with metal tracks for several months now and thought I should share an observation or two. The metal tracks place undo strain on the return wheels and they pop off. After driving the tank in the wet grass today I noticed that I had lost 3 more, all new ones. The ones that had previsouly fell off were secured with CA glue. I was lucky enough to get a bunch of spares from Mato Toys so even though all were not recovered I have enough to get them all back on. Also, with the metal tracks and metal gears the rear of the tank sags when going through heavy brush and grass. I've added fishing weights up front near the speaker box to get the nose down and allow it to move more realistically through the terrain, makes low speed movements more realistic too. |

hmmm thats not good... tho it isnt all that suprising - I mean most of the tank is a fairly lightweight construction, and If I'm right the metal tracks weigh something 1lb per side... I wonder if MATO might get onto Heng long about this? maybe find that in a short while a return wheel upgrade is offered...

It's an issue of adhesives, the wheels aren't breaking, just separating. |

It also happens on standard track.I think it can be fixed with contact cement, it gives and with care wont get on the axles |

So is there a consensus? Are the metal tracks worth it? |

To me, Yes! With the Pershing tanks, the metal tracks add realism, slow them down some and make them heavier. With the added weight they're more tank like in negotiating obstacles. A Pershing with metal tracks will tend to go through its obstacle rather then over it as a lighter tank would! If you're talking about the Tiger and Panther, I think they are a definite necessity if you wish to avoid constant repairs while in the field. My daughter's Panther is constantly breaking links while the metal track equipped Tiger's just have an occaisional thrown track due to idler alignment issues. Got a set sitting under the tree for my Walker, pretty sure the experience will replicate the Pershings. Merry Christmas! |
