I found a interesting mod that should interest tank guys... Its called "finest hour" and it mods the game to World War 2. So you get to play with your favorite tanks of the era. http://www.derelictstudios.net/downloads/d...eg2r2.5v049.exe I'll reply as to what I think of it once I finnish downloading it and try it out. |

Get a chance to try it yet? What did they do with the helicopters?
The copy of Code Name Panzer I purchased is pretty neat, but I had to uninstall it as the copy protection scheme they used (Starforce) messes up my DVD-writer no end.

Actually I haven't been able to try it yet. It wouldn't run due to the mods I made to the game. (new vehicle mods and the like) So I uninstalled the game only to be told that I need the key. Sure no problem I go to grab it and I can't find it. I moved not long ago. So I sent off a email to EA about new passwords and I am hunting for that darn case... The more I read about this the cooler it sounds. Theres also a AI patch for it: http://www.geocities.com/alv80sg/INI.zip |

Wouldn't that just ruin the key tho if your using it? I wouldn't want to wreck your game. I was reading EA's site and it seems they now want 10US a key. So 20us to get a game up and running I already own. Not going to happen. I already spent a lot of money to buy this game. Just waiting to recieve an email about it from EA. See what they say... Plus I am tearing thru the boxes hoping that its somewhere here. Tho I am not getting my hopes up seeing as most of the cases got thrown out. I might have recognised a key on the case but my wife wouldn't have even considered such a thing when we were packing |

Aw man, that stinks. Hope you find it! I'm going to reinstall C&C Generals Zero Hour and try this out. I didn't do it when you first mentioned it because it was pointless as I was getting a new hard drive today. Just installed it and working fine, so probably in the next day or two. Thanks for the info! Never considered someone might be modding C&C Generals. |

Well, I installed it. Now I haven't played through an entire mission yet, but it seems like they were almost trying to copy Code Name Panzer. I keep seeing descriptions that you can play all sides, but it would only allow me to play the axis. Could this be another attempt to be like code name panzer where you have to play the axis campaign before you get to play russia or allies? I guess I'll find out. Don't get me wrong, it is pretty neat and I am going to try to play through it. One thing I didn't like is that it always tries to connect to the internet when starting it. Hmmm... what are they trying to do? Oh well, my firewall blocked it and it would still play after denying it a couple of times. I'll report back in after I've played it a while. |

From what I understand the game was designed for online play. The mod to fix the AI (the ini.zip file) allows you to play against the computer. I still can't find my case!!!

I think I read somewhere that the only missions are built for axis. The game is mainly designed for online play. Using the Ini hack lets you play skirmish mode. Remember this isn't a finnished project. I still haven't heard back from EA. If I don't see an email tomarrow I will call them. If I strike out I guess I'll have to buy the game again. Its only 20 bucks to buy. Course seeing as I already own the darn game I really prefer to not have to spend more money...

I played a couple of skirmishes. Yeah, even with the AI patch, the computer ain't too bright! But it was totally stupid without the patch. I can see from what they have done so far, they have put a lot of TLC in this. The parts they do have done are commercial quality to be sure. I'm not sure about multiplayer (in fact, never played Generals mulitplayer). The ability to build a LOT of units now hinges on your (general's) promotions. I can see how the first person to get promoted might easily run away with a victory and never get to see some of the units. It is that way in skirmish mode, for sure. The AI doesn't put up enough of a fight to get enough promotions to play with all the units. I never get to play with the Pershings or other heavy tanks.

I am ready to give up. First EA never emails me back. So I just break down and buy the game all over again just to get the stupid serial numbers. So I install the game and everytime I start it it just resets my computer! Tried my old discs and the same thing...I don't get it. I have been playing this game on my machine forever. The internet isn't much help but I did find that my video card doesn't like the game. Gee thats funny considering I have played it hundreds of times on my video card. So either I found a fix a long time ago and forgot all about it. Or this game just hates me.

yeah typical... sounds like when I got GTA San Andreas, which was designed to run on win 98/ME as well as win 2k and XP until about two weeks before it came out when they changed it to just 2k and XP. I run Win ME(mainly so I could spend the price of XP on a better Graphics card when I built the PC in '03). I installed it fine, it ran fine first time. then it would never run again. I E-mailed the support guys saying "I have GTA SA, it ran fine on Win ME the first time, now I get this error(screenshot of error), any ideas? I know you dont support win ME officially but it ran fine first time so I know it does work" 2 weeks later I get "sorry we do not support win 98/98SE/ME" thanks alot you f***ers....
I actually solved the prob myself, it was the screen resolution was too high - I deleted the set file and ran the game ok, experimented with steetings and found the game had to be set lower resolution than the desktop in order to run so I just dropped it from 1024x768 down to 800x600 and its run fine ever since... I even E-mailed the support guys to tell them the solution.. funnily enough they never replied. I got the idea from when I changed my monitor and GTA VC stopped working, the set file has to be deleted as it thinks there is a hardware error unless it matches what was there the first time the game runs.

Well what a waste of time and money...
I have tried everything I can think of and my computer just keeps reseting everytime I start the game. Nothing I have tried has managed to get around the problem. What makes it more frustrating is I have played the game on my system plenty of time before. But I just can't remember if I figured out a fix last time... Looks like I may have to just wait until I can swing a new video card... |

This is REALLY grasping at straws, but there is a command line switch to supress the intro movie. NO idea if this is the problem, I just remember using it to load the game faster at one time. Sorry, don't remeber what it was. I just remember there was another game I had that the intro movie was crashing and skipping it solved the problem...
