As soon as the box arrived I quickly forgot about sleeping

And hidden under the outer box! I must say these are well packaged. Boxes look great, and everything was packed well.

After removing the tank, the tiger fared very well with no damage during shipping. Everything else looks good from observation. Beatiful tank!

Well gave the tanks a quick run to check them out...

Put the batts in and turned it on. The headlight started flashing and it just sat there doing nothing. I hit the start button and away it fired, caught, and settled into a throaty roar. I moved out into my living room. Got into position aimed and took out my 2 provided by HL targets! :shoot: Man they got blown over. Theres enough impact speed to put dents in the card, and I never did see where the shots flew off to. At this point the smoke started coming out of the exhaust and I sniffed and quickly turned it off. It stinks! I am going to have to wait till I can take them outside before I fire up the smoke units.

Quick things to note:

The sound is great! It may not be Tamiya standard but its quite good. You even have volume control.

Speed of the Super units seems good, not too fast and at least theres no issue going slow. The 10 step escs are good enough to feel seemless. Not problems there

The smoke units are loud and stinky, not something I'd want to run indoors. Will have to test more later...

They sure look sharp, to a tanker novice like me they are gorgeous! All they need is some weathering...

I was worried about the tank kickback when its fired. I thought it looked dumb in the videos and wasn't looking forward to trying to disable it. I never should have worried, that feature is activated by a button. So I just don't use it and I'll be happy!

Overall I am super impressed by what you get for this cheap! I'll have to finish my testing (and playing) later when the kids are asleep...

The power of the guns is quite impressive. It shoots thru paper with ease. Puts dents in card and pop cans... I can get ricoshays (sp?) of 2 or 3 walls easy!

There already a victim (me) My daughter shot me from an inch away on my bare ankle! It wasn't bad but it def. stung. I felt better when she shot herself, (from bout 3 feet away) right in the chest, She didn't appreciate me laughing at her hysterically.

Wonder what the wife going to say when she see's hundred of little yellow balls all over the living room!

A small update. I just ordered spare tracks from Mato. I should have thought of that when I ordered the tanks but oh well.

With the spare tracks I will be adding a couple links to the main tracks so that I can get the proper Tiger sag. Right now the tracks are very tight. So much so that I worry about the sprocket and end bogie taking more stress then they can handle.

Sorry, no pics until the package gets here...

might they loosen up with running like the blizzards?

Also do Tamiya tracks fit? cuz I've seen folk on Ebay selling official Tamiya hop-up metal tracks for Tamiya/Heng Long Tiger... then again it wouldnt be the first time Ebay sellers dont know what they're talking about...

Far as I know Tamiya tracks do fit.

I thought about metal tracks for these guys but I really don't care enough to spend that much on these. I'd rather use that money for the M41 when its available.

I am looking at whats required to make a IR fighting system for these tanks. Theres a Tamiya compatible system out there but it might be too much money to get. I am hoping to find something cheap and simple that we can use.

well there's a few mini tanks which can "do battle" via IR, shouldnt be too expensive to get one or two, however a system from a 1/24th or smaller tank might not have much range.... no hitting targets 3 miles away for you....

My spare track came in.

After:

I did some basic running on carpet with the extended links and so far it seems fine. Not a single derail. I am willing to deal with a bit of derailing for the new look.

I also tore out the smoke generator while I was in there. (yes the tubes are gone) They just aren't for me.

And I replaced the front plastic track molded part for a bunch of actual track links. I like it much better...

hmmm... interesting problem...

When I went into the Pershing to remove the smoke unit, I noticed a problem with the upper motor mount. Its bent pretty bad. Enough so that the pinion barely reaches the gear anymore.

I went back into the tiger and it has the same problem to a lesser degree.

I believe it must be all the carpet running I have been doing, putting plenty of stress on a very thin mount.

I am going to have to think of a way to strengthen this area before I drive them again.

Hmmm thats not good... all I can think of is either a thicker plate, or else have the opposite plate mirror the shape of the motor so a brace could be run between them. either way means replacing one or other motor plates tho...

I take it the MATO all metal gearbox isnt any better in this respect?

I think the housing must be the same. Its way too weak anyways... I would hate to see what they would do with the extra stress of metal tracks.

Once I get the shop setup again I will most likely redo the motor plate in much better material... Make the motor holes adjustable while I am at it. Then I could swap pinions if I wanted...

yeah, not to mention putting better motors on too! :P

it might be ok if you just make a plate out of thicker material to replace or possibly some form of extra plate?(I'm just thinking that way you wouldnt have to be 100% precise for drilling holes for gear shafts and such)

Well the plate idea is certainly doable. But I think I have a simpler idea...

Posted Image

All it is is a plastic or hard foam spacer that keeps the upper motor where it belongs. The bottom motor is very secure (being mounted in the lower of the tranny plate) So is an ideal perch to support the upper motor.

looks good to me! :nice:

now all you have to figure out is how do you make a concave 2" radius on both sides of a block of plastic?

LOL thats the easy part.

Make a computer drawing, print it out, glue it to the material, bandsaw away, clean up with a file, attach!

See I am already done! NOT!

hmm that would be easy... I think I've been using the lathe too much tho - my idea involved clamping the workpeice to a T-slotted cross slide on the lathe and using a large between centre's boring bar for a really precise radius across its length......

only problem with this plan is I dont have a T-slotted cross slide, or a between centres boring bar(the latter isnt too hard to make tho...)...
