How I Repaired The Broken Gun On My Pershing

I just got my Heng Long Pershing in the mail, and all was well despite all the bad reviews I read about them being DOA out of the box. I was happy. That is, until the gun stopped shooting after a couple of runs. I started digging online, and read about alot of people having trouble with the little rubber seal that fits inside the breech at the back of the barrel. They said that the little seal would turn sideways, causing the gun to jam. So I tore the tank down to get to the gun. When I split the mechanism in half, the pieces literally fell out in my hands, not gears, shafts, nothing like that, but broken chunks of plastic. I figured out that what was broken was the breech itself. I found a few pictures on a German forum that showed a gun taken apart, and between those pictures and the pieces that I had, I was able to understand how the gun worked, and made my own breech. Here's what I found inside:

I dug around, and found an ink pen with the right OD to fit into the gun mechanism housing. I drilled the inside out to the same size as the original, then cut the opening out for the BBs to fall into place when the gun loads.

So then I cut a piece of heat shrink tubing and used that to hold the new breech to the back of the barrel. After shrinking the tubing, I removed it, and used thing CA to glue it back on so that it's a positive seal, and also to prevent the hole in the breech from being able to rotate out of alignment with the loading chute.

This is how it fits into the gun mechanism.

When I assembled it all, I had to make sure to keep the barrel rotated so that the hole in the breech was ligned up with the chute so the BBs could fall into place. The barrel is a snug fit, so it will stay where it's at, and like I said, the new breech is glued into the tubing at the back of the barrel.

While I was in there, I took out the red "warning" LED that lights when the gun is fired. I'll get around to filling the hole it left one of these days. After I got everything back together, the gun wouldn't do anything at all, it was dead. I took it back apart and found that I had pulled a wire loose. Once it was soldered back, I put the tank back together again, and was pleased to find that the gun works like a charm. It hasn't misfired not even once since I fixed it. I shot about 50 BBs through it so far like this, and it's holding up just fine. If it does fail again, I hear that the entire mechanism can be purchased from Mato Toys for a mere $4.50 so it's not that bad. lol

I'll get some pictures of the tank in one piece tomorrow.

Thats too bad it arrived that way. Great fix tho! :nice:

And it sounds like its now working better then stock if your not getting any jams... Can't wait to see pictures of your tank, as its one I will be getting before long. If your taking requests I would like to see a few close ups of the tracks and drive system.

bootyfab-ulous! :nice:

$4.50 for the mechanism aint bad, but your fix is pretty much free for the sake of a cheap pen and some heatshrink right? good stuff!!
