Overall Opinion Of Heng Long Tanks?

I have been looking at The Heng Long tanks for awhile now. Mato Toys has them for a great price in Canada. And I have been contimplating picking up the whole line of them. The fact they are 1/16th is really swaying me to them. If and when I do own Tamiya tanks they will fit right in...

From what I see Mato offers replacement parts which is nice. Theres even upgrade parts. If Tamiya tanks are out of reach at the moment the HL's sure arn't...

I do know that the quality control isn't the best it seems from reading other forums. But is it so bad tha its not worth the risk? At the prices I am looking at I would almost pay them just to have them as models anyways and it looks like the all share the internal guts so any spares would interchange anyways...

A big thing with toy RCs it seems is the slow response with the radios, What I mean by this is you tell it to stop and a second later it finally agrees with you. Everything is delayed... Do the HL tanks respond normally or do they have frustrating radio systems in them? I don't want to pick up all three tanks to have to gut them all to real elecs just to enjoy running them.

Are these tracks plastic or rubber? I am sure its been posted elsewhere but I just can't remember. Also do they hold up to normal use? Not breaking or throwing tracks type of thing?

How fast are these tanks? Do they need to be slowed down to be a scale speed like the Tamiyas seem to need? And do they have enough torque to be able to climb or negotiate trails?

And lastly has there ever been any hint that they might come out with a Sherman? That is my absolute favorite tank of all time and I would love to get one...

Same here! If they come out with the Sherman, I will get one in a blink! :D

The tracks are hard plastic, they don't have much traction. But in dirt or grass, they are ok. I have only driven the tank two times. I've driven it on dirt and it does pretty well on there for a toy tank. The speed, I would say is too fast to be scale, but I am not 100% sure. The electronics response is not bad, I did notice a little delay. Definitely different from my HRS 3PK  For the price, I think these are a great alternatives to the Tamiya tanks. The Tamiya's cost over 1k after tax here, that's just the kit though :( . If I invest that much into a Tamiya tank, I probably would not run it anyways

It's probably different for me since my RC's don't run much. So whether Tamiya or Hen Long, they sit on the shelf 99% of the time

Please go read some of the threads on RCU's tnak forums.

Mato is NOT from Canada and he has been lying the whole time about it.

Also, Heng Long is of the lowest quality.

I really wish people would stop getting their junk so they would either drastically improve quality or go out of business.

Save for a Tamiya or gut the HL and put in Tamiya electrics.

Even if the Heng Longs quality is low. So is its price... The very fact that a guy can get a decent looking tank for a decent price is outstanding.

Parts are available, so at least they are taking care of the consumer. And I don't think it matters where Mato gets its parts / tanks from as long as he's reliable and ships what you buy.

I would love to have Tamiya tanks but that is just not an option. No one I know has one or even wants one. So battles are out of the picture unless I purchased 2 or more of them. And I could have the entire Heng Long line up and spare parts for the cost of one Tamiya.

Got to agree with ya Outcast:

With Hen Long listening to us now (the M41 chassis changes is proof of this) perhaps they will make a Sherman next. Rumors claim its a Pz.3 or Pz. 4 which might be as useful, if they'd slap a M24 Chaffee onto that new chassis, but I doubt the rumors.

With Torro and a few others making upgrade parts for the HL, it won't be long before they are as populous as the Tamiyas, even if they have no BattleSystem.

Personally, I found the Wasan T34's soft/flexible suspension arms a sad disappointment, but if Torro does the same set as its made for the Tiger, it may be a kit worth acquiring.

I'm going to invest in an M26 and an M41 later this spring, and see what havoc they can do amongst my Tamiya's. And NO, no BB's fired at the valuable Leopards... first tank that does gets stomped.

The Heng Longs are great value for the money. Sure they're not as fancy as the Tamiyas, but Tamiya tanks are way too expensive for me to even consider. So far I have 5 tanks, plus tons of spares and accessories and have barely spent $1000 to date. That's equal to what? One Tamiya tank?

As far as quality goes, each new batch gets better and better. They changed the boards when they went to smoke and sound. The smoke unit design was changed. Then they added the slipper clutches, now the new tanks have metal gearboxes, more robust boards and higher capacity batteries. Sprinkled in there are tanks with lower rpm motors, my smoke Pershing with slipper clutch and Panther with the metal gears came with the slower motors.

Now if they'd design a more robust airsoft unit. Tired of looking at broken breeches!

Good info! :nice:

I have been safe so far with breeches. Maybe I should order a couple units when I bring in my M41.

:welcome: to :MTred: by the way!
