Making Trax!

Well I had an interesting night tonight...

Today I found a battery in my box of old RC stuff. It was a cheap battery, bought from my LHS (Local Hobby Shop) about 2 years ago. With that, I had all the parts to see my blizzard up and running. While charging the battery, I installed the servos and linkages. When I was done I decided it was time for a test drive. The blizzard ran smoothly for about 30 seconds, after which I noticed it was having trouble going forwards. I would have to tap reverse and then forwards to make it go. After a minuet of fighting with the mechanical speed controller, trying to make my blizzard move forward, I noticed smoke coming from the blizzard! The smoke was coming from the (not really suprizing) speed controller. It was the part of the speed controller located on the bottom of the blizzard. I'll get a picture on here to show you. Luckuly, they included a "shield" around the thing that was smoking, so nothing else in my blizzard was damaged. After argueing for an hour with awakened family members, I ended up with an extra $20 (bets and whatnot people loose when they have no idea what they're talking about) - which is going twards the purchase of a nice new ESC. I'll be sure to get pictures tomarow. ;)

EDIT: I got a picture:

Yikes!

I remember that quite often in the old days of MSC. Wouldn't think it would still happen in this day an age. Check to make sure somethings not binding up. The resister would blow if too much load was put on it. Its the only thing I can think of....

I've fried ESC's nevermind MSC's..... I now wont run an MSC on any RC vehicle... did get a mad bull buggy off ebay which had an MSC and standard servo's and bsuhings, I tried runing it stock just to see what it was like after running trucks with high power ESC's for a while. it was awful! it was like delayed reaction driving, I tell it to stop and a couple of seconds later it begins to stop....

IMO get the best ESC you can afford, you wont regret it - but you will regret buying a cheapy one and frying it.... :firedevil:
