I was wondering what people thought about this snowmobile trail drag I made. I was thinking about making them and selling them. Be honest with me, I can take it. I would rather you tell me the truth than waste a bunch of time making them and have them not sell. These are for looks/display only as they are made of wood. They could be used on powdery snow I'm sure with no problem, but I'm sure if they hit clumps of ice or a rock the cutting blades would break. I hope to make them out of aluminum if it looks like there is a demand. Keep in mind in these pics I needed to add a couple more coats of paint. I would sell them painted or plain so you could paint it the color of your choice. Do you think people would buy one? How much do you think is a fair price? http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a213/ami...al/DSCN0016.jpg http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a213/ami...al/DSCN0013.jpg Thanks, Cleve |

Hi, It looks very nice, If u like to use the wood its done of, for the next ones that u maybe gonna sell. Then u can use very hardend glue dont know the name in english but i have used that on balsa wood and it gets very strong actually.. And for the prize, cheap prize is always good (-: /Xeno |

I did cover most of it with CA glue which adds alot of strength, but is also time consuming. I was going to coat it in Epoxy, but decided to use CA on the first one. I know cheap is always good, but what do you consider cheap. This is all handmade and it does take some time to make. |

I could make the plow too, but that is also made of wood. I am thinking I may put a Lexan cutting edge on the plow. I now have mine so it lifts and lowers with a servo. The problem would be if whoever buys one, could they do the rest of the install of the plow themselves. It would only mean drilling a few holes and setting up the servo and linkage, not too bad though. I am going to try and make one out of aluminum as soon as I can find the time. How much do you think the plow and mounting brackets should sell for? The plow and frame is all wood and the brackets that connects it to the frame are aluminum. Should I sell it with all the hardware or let people finish installing it the way they want? The point is mostly for looks yes, just like the plow is. Whats the point in having a plow? You going to actually plow your yard out with it? I actually do think it will be cool to plow with the Blizzard and I thought maybe some people would like to drag sled trails. Its all in fun. I do appreciate your thoughts, it helps me decide whether to go ahead with making some of these and what improvements I need to make. Please, keeps your thought and ideas coming. |

I don't want to sway you from making them but you do need to think it thru. I make parts for guys on a semi regular basis. And I can tell you all I do is lose money on it. If I gave myself even minimum wage on the time spent I would never sell anything. But I do enjoy it, for its something I enjoy doing and it helps guys out. I figure I am making one anyways for myself so why not make a couple extra. But mostly I just post the plans online for others to copy and if someone wants me to make them one I will. The problem is for the home brew guy it is very difficult to make something and be competitive. Yet make enough money to justify doing it. One thing you can do is make a couple and then see how they go and for what price. It will help you get an idea of how they might do. Or better yet make a newer better one for yourself and then sell your previous design. I do this quite often, it allows me to make things better and my poorer results still make people happy. Also consider that there will be plans going on the site for people to build there own one of these days. I have some designs I am working on and I know that there are people out there working on getting the dx options planned out so a guy could build them. While there will still be people that would rather buy then build there will be plenty that want to try it out for themselves. Thus more competition for you to deal with, something to consider anyways... But I don't want to scare you from making them. Just keep it low key and do it for the love of doing it. You will sell a few and those people will thank you for doing it.
