btw is this a good idea? I mean normally yes ball bearings are a no brainer. but if you want to run in snow a greased bearing/bushing will hold up far longer than a steel ball bearing exposed to snow/water....

whats the general consensus on this?

They're sealed bearings, right? Then I don't see a problem with it. Maybe it would be best to only instal bearings on the internal parts that doesnt come in contact with snow.

Maybe some bearing are out there that can get wet but I know that most of the bearing I have ever used start to rust and seize once the get wet. So I make a point of WD-40ing them thoroughly then oiling them again. I know rubbber sheilded rust and so do metal sheilded. Maybe the expensive ceramic ones would work?

I was thinking that I would just bearing the internals and leave the wheels to fend for themselves. Pack between the 2 wheel bushings as much grease as possible and then just go have some fun.

It does raise a good point tho. First is there bearings that can take the water without damage. Second are bushings really all that bad?

I have been throwing bearings into everything for so long I don't question why... Maybe its not always the best solution...

In my experience BBs are always better than bushings, they reduce friction witch will give you better battery life along with more power. I'd rather replace the BBs as they start to rust and have the preformance rather than less performance and run bushings. I had already thought of the rust B4 I put them in, it just means that you'll have to mintain your rig (as we all should do anyway).

This is how I shimmed my bearings on the wheels, the large silver washer is a dubro 4mm #2110 and the small black ones next to the bearings are Traxxas 4x6mm teflon washers #1549. Test each wheel to make sure the screw is not too tight :nice:

i belive boca makes stainless bearings stay away from ceramic for bashing though wont hold up they are for race cars not offroad vehicles

It's been 8 mounths sence I ran my Blizzard.

I dusted it off with excitment after a huge snow storm passed through. I checked all the electronics to make sure they were working correctly, and last checked my bearings and to my amazment all the bearings still spin totaly free :nice: (I had figured some would've rusted for sure).

What a blast this thing is, always makes me laugh.

P.S. I just orderd my new DF body.

I purchased the sealed ones.....I know that they dont spin as freely as the full metal ones, but I didnt want to have to keep taking 28 bearings out and repacking them with lube....

I just got the last set of bearings I needed for the wheels. It now has the standard shielded type inside the chassis and 100% stainless for the snowy parts. The idea of using teflon or nylon washers for shims sounds like a good one too.

Well, once you have the 8x14's on each side of the diff gears, it's 5x10's all the way out to the chain sprockets.
