To me, Yes! With the Pershing tanks, the metal tracks add realism, slow them down some and make them heavier. With the added weight they're more tank like in negotiating obstacles. A Pershing with metal tracks will tend to go through its obstacle rather then over it as a lighter tank would!

If you're talking about the Tiger and Panther, I think they are a definite necessity if you wish to avoid constant repairs while in the field. My daughter's Panther is constantly breaking links while the metal track equipped Tiger's just have an occaisional thrown track due to idler alignment issues.

Got a set sitting under the tree for my Walker, pretty sure the experience will replicate the Pershings.
