Making Trax!

Well, in chatting with Craig about Blizzards, and other assorted tracks, my old hankering to make a SHADO-Mobile replica or close look-alike came back. I've already acquired the toy tank that the original modelmaker used to base it on, and the tracks are rather nice, though I doubt they'll hold up to cold weather. With that said, the rest of the chassis is poor for a decent tracked vehicle: there is almost no suspension, and all the axles go completely across the chassis, destroying much of the rough-terrain climbing ability. And that ignores the simple gearbox that drives both sides at the same time, so no turning ability. My idea: Scratch-mate the existing roadwheels and sprockets to a Blizzard chassis thats been widened and stretched to match original Mobile dimensions. Adding additional suspension arms will probably be required (extra parts bought) but will give the beast a decent suspension. If you know of a Blizzard EV/EP (a DX or HM won't do) thats available (gas with a blown engine, or electric that someone is tired of) please let me know. Up for trade-bait: My assembled but un-run TLT (dry-assembled with no locktite or lube) with all stock parts, untouched body/decals plus 1150 ball bearings; - most of a Stampede gearbox (needs spool and spur) plus axles & link arms; - some gorgeous new rims/rubber: HPI Geolandars (4456 - $15/pr ) on HPI Spike black-chrome (gunmetal) rims (3084 - $15/pr) (includes rim adapter set) (don't ask for the rims/tires unless you'll pay list price plus shipping) |
