yeah typical... sounds like when I got GTA San Andreas, which was designed to run on win 98/ME as well as win 2k and XP until about two weeks before it came out when they changed it to just 2k and XP. I run Win ME(mainly so I could spend the price of XP on a better Graphics card when I built the PC in '03). I installed it fine, it ran fine first time. then it would never run again. I E-mailed the support guys saying "I have GTA SA, it ran fine on Win ME the first time, now I get this error(screenshot of error), any ideas? I know you dont support win ME officially but it ran fine first time so I know it does work" 2 weeks later I get "sorry we do not support win 98/98SE/ME" thanks alot you f***ers....
I actually solved the prob myself, it was the screen resolution was too high - I deleted the set file and ran the game ok, experimented with steetings and found the game had to be set lower resolution than the desktop in order to run so I just dropped it from 1024x768 down to 800x600 and its run fine ever since... I even E-mailed the support guys to tell them the solution.. funnily enough they never replied. I got the idea from when I changed my monitor and GTA VC stopped working, the set file has to be deleted as it thinks there is a hardware error unless it matches what was there the first time the game runs.
