Lazy day today, not much work to be done. It's been quiet lately, but not a calming quiet. One of unease, discomfort. You know that storm's just looming there behind the horizon, waiting to strike. Felt it this morning. It was why I got to work late today. Boss didn't mind, or rather he didn't know. I was the one to open the doors today.

There was nothing on my desk, nothing at all. It's not really surprising. We hadn't had anything major in a while, and the chief has had me handling petty crimes, like shoplifting and littering. Just trash to keep me busy. I had enough of that. Time to find my own work, so I wouldn't be scraping up the grunt duty.

There's a file in the archives. It's not that old, but it's had its share of dust collected. It's filed under unsolved cases, but really, someone left it there hoping that someone else would finish it. A large amount of bad mojo's been linked to this particular file, the type of thing I don't necessarily believe in. But what I do believe in is finishing the job. It ain't right to leave something this big, this major out in the open, covered in a blanket of dust amoung a pile of equally neglected cases. No, this baby requires special attention. So I grabbed her and a cup of coffee, and made my way to the office. I locked the door and switched on my dinky overhead lamp.

Opening the file up, I found the name of the case. Mafia 50.

The Laws of Mafia Behavior v. 2.0, as invented by 7nr, snpie, me and kaz in some previous games:

1. Whoever writes the most is mafia.

2. If you're taking the game seriously, you're mafia.

3. If you're trying too hard (i.e. defending yourself after being accused), you're mafia.

4. If you change your vote alot, you're suspicious, probably mafia.

5. If you don't go along with the latest lynching fad, you're almost definitely mafia.

6. Whoever places their vote last on a mafioso's lynch is likely to also be mafia. I don't think Snpie, Kaz or Ronny ever actually said this one, but I definitely saw someone say it somewhere.

7. The more active a player is, the more likely it is that they are mafia. It is not a guarantee, but it increases their mafia likelihood.

8. Players who consistently vote together, especially if they are going against the latest lynching fad, are more likely to be mafia. You should look for pairs or perhaps a group of 3 who do this.

9. Someone who makes accusations without proof should probably be lynched, unless it is Cap'n and ZoZo voting on each other, in which case a double lynch is the proper course of action.

10. The Laws are absolute (or closer to it), while the Clues are not. If the Laws indicate one person, while the Clues indicate another, one should trust in the Laws.

11. If you disagree with or deny ANY of the above rules, you are 100% guaranteed mafia.

12. Say whatever works at the time, do whatever it takes to get the person lynched. You should have no constant standards, other than the Laws, of course.

13. When someone dies, you should remember their last words, especially if it's me.

Also, anything Magus says is true, but he's said nothing so far.

Addendum: One should study the behavior of one's fellow players and keep in mind the personal Laws which apply only to certain individuals. For example, the likelihood that Cap'n is mafia is directly proportional to the number of night phases that he has gone without being attacked by mafia. Lemon will not directly tell a lie, and Lemon also regularly posts huge analyses of clues even when it's totally unnecessary, so Law #1 isn't a dead giveaway with him. etc

Night 1

The first murder was a particularly gruesome one. Some say the victim had it coming, and I was inclined to agree. He was the paranoid sort, always snooping around where he didn't belong, tongue always wet with the taste of a new story or hidden truth. Some say it had to do with his occupation, I say newspaper journalists should realize they're not invincible.

An eyewitness reported the incident after noticing he was digging around in his belongings. The victim was identified as raak, and was found to be sneaking around inside the eyewitness's house. Thinking the victim a thief, the eyewitness retrieved a shotgun from his closet and went after raak. Two rounds were fired, one warning shot full of nonlethal rocksalt, and one full of buckshot. Both shots failed to hit the target, but did succeed in scaring off raak. The eyewitness, sure that raak had stolen something, pursued the victim.

Even after being threatened by a shotgun, raak was not in any way discouraged. He was dead set on finding information of any kind that night. The victim had made his way to a warehouse on the far side of the town. The warehouse seemed to be a storage place for yachts and other boat-related constructions. The suspect was found there, just about to lock up the place before raak approached him, pen and little notepad in hand.

Needless to say, the suspect was surprised to find someone here at such a late hour. He thought that he had been found out, or that was going to be found out. So the man invited raak inside, to reassure him that no funny business was at hand. raak followed inside, while the eyewitness watched from the outside, from a window. The eyewitness saw the suspect lead raak about, talking about how he was fixing the fuel line of the old yacht. It was an Eastern European import, and required special care, according to the suspect. The suspect opened up the engine, inviting raak to see all the piping, wiring, and intricacies of such a classic design.

raak was not amused or distracted in the least. He demanded that the suspect, "Put aside the bullshit and tell me what's really going on here", according to eyewitness account. The suspect begrudgingly accepted, and invited raak to a room in the back, at which point the suspect got the jump on raak, knocking him out from a boot in the face. From there, the victim raak was dragged over to the yacht, his face put in front of the engine's propellers. The yacht's engine was turned on, and the engine's propellers chewed into raak's face, ripping it apart piece-by-piece, his screams being drowned out by the sound of the old motor. When all was said and done, all that was left of raak was a pool of blood and a headless stock. The suspect walked away nonchalantly, lighting a pipe and locking up the warehouse before walking back into the city. The eyewitness was so surprised at what happened, that he did not fire his gun. It was later found that the gun misfired, failing to ignite.

Still, the result was plain to see. The first of many, or so it would seem. raak was only the beginning of a much bigger war.

raak, Detective, has been killed by Mafia

End of Day 2 (No clues)

raak's body was discovered on the warehouse floor the next morning, bloodied and torn. The eyewitness had returned to town, but fearing for his life, was not able to will himself to report the crime. In a way, this was wise. But in doing so, he caused the death of another.

The town wanted immediate retribution for this horrible act and singled out but two people. There was not much discussion or deliberation, and eventually and quite abruptly, Leek was declared guilty of the crimes.

As the noose tightened around his neck, Leek was asked if he had any last words.

"No, this is all wrong! I didn't do anything! It's a trap!"

His neck snapped like a twig, but no one got any satisfaction in it. Except the true killer.

Leek, a Citizen, has died.

Simple solution to this: lynch Blade tomorrow to prove what an awful idea either vote would have been, and no-votes are always dumb because then we have very little way to kill the mafia. There is no right answer and no third option. It was a vote where we had to choose between allowing the opinions/random choice of one person deciding the lynch, or lynching that person in the chance that they were mafia trying to steal the vote.

Night 2

The following takes place at Blade's restaurant, smack dab in the busiest part of town. The clock just shifted past the midnight hour, and only two people remain in the place.

"So, did you hear about what happened?" Blade said to the construction worker, while polishing his last knife for the night.

"For the last fuckin' time, yes. You'd have to be deaf and blind not to have hear about it by now." The construction worker stared into his soup, and grumbled that it didn't quite have the kick he wanted.

"Well, you don't have to be such a... wait, did you hear that?" Blade craned his neck up over the construction worker and tried to look out the window. "Guess it's nothing. Got the jeebilies somethin' fierce ever since it was found out that Leek was innocent."

"Shaddup about that willya? I'm trying to eat here!"

"I think someone set him up, you think so too?"

"Forget this, turn on the TV. I'd had enough of your bull."

"Sorry, can't get a signal."

"What? Now the TV's busted too? What a piece of trash restaurant you got here, Blade."

"You know, if you weren't such a regular, I'd kick you out."

"Yea, about that. I'm leaving." The construction worker got up out of his seat and exited the door. Blade shrugged, finding the worker's mannerisms a bit amusing. He picked up the nickel left on the counter, and considered himself lucky that he even got that much. Blade got up from the counter and walked on over to the door to close up shop.

Already a significant distance away, the construction worker picked up his magnum rifle, lined up his shot, and fired. Blade's scream was heard, and he fell to the floor. Satisfied, the construction worker left the area, before he could confirm the kill.

There, over Blade's body, stood a tall figure. The local security guard, who had been lurking about just earlier. He roused Blade awake.

"Holy crap, you just saved me! But who would shoot me?"

Blade has been protected by the bodyguard.

Day 3 Begins. Same rules apply (24 hr+30min/post). Since it's the weekend, 24 hrs starts Monday.

Day 3 End

They had Luneth lined up against the wall. Guns pointed, primed, ready. They asked if he had any last words.

"You'll see," he said, in an odd tone of resignation.

Fingers pressed against the triggers, slowly squeezing. Time was slowing down for Luneth, but he still had so little of it left.

Blade ran, he burst out of his restaurant and rushed as quickly as he could to the execution grounds. Across busy streets and over walls, through the roughest of brush. And when he finally reached the grounds, he yelled,

"No, wait! Stop! That's the wrong---"

The rest of his words were drowned out by gunfire.

Luneth, Bodyguard, has died.

Night 3 begins.
