"Today I'll be telling the story of Althar, the last High Lord of Elfheim." A small fire burned happily in a fire place in a small nook of the Library of Ur. Small children were gathered around an elf sitting in a chair with a book. In the distance, the sounds of battle could be heard from outside the walls. The children listened intently to the storytelling elf. "Seven centuries and four decades ago, the great country of Elfheim was living prosperously. The elves lived on their island nation in cities with glittering spires shining out across the sea for all to bask in. It was a day of great celebration, for it marked the 137th Lunar Festival. These festivals marked the ascension of a new High Lord to the court of Elfheim and it was a happy time indeed. Vendors sold trinkets in the streets, minstrels sang songs of great heroes, and all was well in the world...." |

One of the children, this particular one named Faran, jumped up and shouted: "AND THEN EVERYTHING DIED." He then sat back down and was once again silent, as if he'd made no such interruption at all. |

((Couldn't the post be canon without what the child said being true? Maybe he was mistaken.)) Anyway... A strange looking being walked out from between the rows of books, and saw the circle of small children. However, he also saw in the middle, next to the elf reading a book, a large cake - the size of a seven tier wedding cake. It had big swirls of flowery goodness in the form of icing... on every layer. Its tongue dropped a little further, and then twirled around its mouth in an exaggerated lip licking motion. It ran forward, stepped over the children, and started devouring the cake. But to any normal people, the elf, and the children, it would appear as though this creature was eating air. Silly Ququ of the Qu clan. |

Before the elf could continue his story, the lights in the library went out. For a few seconds, the space was deluged in total blackness. Children screamed; attendants tried to restore order; and then a new light caught everyone's attention. It started as a small spark in the center of the room, a mere flicker, like a lightning bug. It continued to flicker rapidly; each time the spark flashed, it grew in intensity, and began to take on a more definitive shade and color. It turned to a harsh, unpleasant shade somewhere between yellow and orange; soon it illuminated the entire room, washing everything in its fell light. It was not bright, and yet to stare at its source would still hurt one's eyes. From this floodlight in the center of the room, a form began to take shape. It, like the light it cast, started as nothing but a small iota of matter, but it quickly grew and shaped itself. A tall figure, swathed in voluminous purple cloth that flowed out from it like a self-contained sea, covering its entire body save for its face. The skin was a mottled, sickly green, reminiscent of rot and decay; a complex mechanism covered the left side of its face, with a red light where the eye would've been. "Hello, gentlemen. All Ur base are belong to me. You elves are fools to resist the forces now arrayed against you. I make you one offer. Come with me, submit to me, beg for mercy, and I shall make you into wraiths instantly, sending your souls to the afterlife. Refuse, and I shall hold you alive for years upon years in my dungeons, keeping you in a state of constant torture, a Hell upon earth. And when finally you expire, I will not allow your souls to depart. I will claim them and make use of their energy, casting you out into the void. What say you?" |

(( Ur pun = failsauce )) The storytelling elf placed a bookmark in his book and closed it. Slowly, he stood and faced the arrogant threat in the centre of the library. "You have made two mistakes sir. One, the city of Ur is a coalition of all races. Two..." The elf raised his left hand with the palm open and pointed it at the purple clad foe to freedom. "...You have to be quiet in the library!" With a quick movement of his hand, both of them were shunted to a small demiplane, leaving two whisps of smoke behind in the Library of Ur. |

((I'll wipe the above two posts then. And carry on.)) "Mr. Storyteller, Mr. Storyteller!" Yet another small child leapt to his feet, this one with a shock of unruly orange-red hair and a smattering of freckles over his dark face. His hand shot high in the air as if propelled by a missile and began to wave back and forth, despite the fact that there was no longer anywhere there to 'call' on him. It was an early warning sign that he was going to grow up to be one of Those Kids. You know. The ones who actually had a question when the teacher rhetorically asked "Any questions?" after the bell had rang. The ones who did mind grading on a curve because they didn't need it and it would only end up making their scores look less impressive. But thankfully, 5 years from now, his father would die and he would take up the guitar to vent his feelings and become a semi-popular musician who, if not completely a slacker, realized that there were more important things to life than doing well in school. He would also discover females. And males, too, since most musicians were bisexual and stuff. Even more thankfully, this story is not going to be about him at all. "Mr. Storyteller!" He repeated again as he ran up to the wisp of smoke and thrust his raised hand into it. 5 seconds later, the storyteller was back in the proper dimension and the little boy called out, "Finish the story first, please!" Oddly enough, the little boy had been born with the talent to rewind the last 5 minutes of time for a single person. The rules for doing so were nebulous and vague (he once rewinded the death of his pet dog more than 50 times before his parents noticed and made him let the dog die in peace), but it appeared as if he could only do so for a human being once a week or so. Generally, he saved it for important moments. He counted this as important. Coincidentally, the same day his father died would be the same day he hit puberty and lost his Power. In return, he got well-defined biceps and abs and managed to avoid acne altogether. But like I said earlier, this story is not about him at all. "Leave that meanie alone and finish the story, please!" The little boy plopped back down to the floor in the front row of children. |

Why so serious? |
|
Some days I wonder if it was worth it. Then, I realize, looking at the sky, that nothing is worth it. After all, what is worth? Worth is nothing. A mere word, invented by humans to signify that we think that we are important, too. We aren't. Then, as I think, I hear a voice calling to me. It calls my name. I walk towards the voice, heedless of my actions. After all, it doesn't matter. It isn't worth the safety. Nothing is worth anything. Walking, I see a man by a fire. He beckons for me to sit. I sit. And he asks me, "Why did you come?" I answer, "Staying there wasn't worth it, as nothing is worth anything." He replies, "If staying there wasn't worth it, and you came here, does not that mean that it was worth it to come here? Begone, you, and think more on the true meaning of life." I wake up the next morning, still in the field, on the ground. I stand. For it is worth it to stand.

The first post was obviously a joke that could have just been circumvented. Luneth overreacted there. But the second seems to fall clearly in the realm of "Ruining the Basic Intent and Plot of the RP", probably due to WJC's lulz at Luneth's inability to take the joke. I mean, most of us would probably be annoyed too if someone posted something like that 1 post into the RP. At least I would. So really, stop pseudo-fighting. We all know why Luneth is pissed; it's not that hard to figure out. >_> Equally, it seems most of us feel that you take your roleplaying a bit too seriously, Luneth, so you may want to consider lightening up a little and taking these things in stride. Lukannon introduced a tribe of Charizards and Anti-Charizards into Reikken, and Solid dealt with that gracefully in a single post. It's not that we hate your RPs or something; it's just that some of us have an interesting sense of humor that may not exactly coincide with what you find humorous. |

I wake up the next morning, still in the field, on the ground. I stand. For it is worth it to stand.

. . . . . . . . . . . . *chirp* *chirp* *cold wind blows by* It's OK, OkamiTamashii. I ate your soul instead. BTW, the demon you sold it to wants something else now since you let me take it from him. |

Begone, you, and think more on the true meaning of life." My advice: Don't run your own RP. Post in Reikken. One large, consistent RP with everyone in it >>>>>> alot of pplz each trying to run his/her own little RP. |

lolz, I've run over 20 RPs. Runefall, Emperor, Ecivus, Hand of the Forgotten Darkness, War of the Sands, Necromancers, Shadowland, Tides of Darkness, Reikken, Before the Dawn, Knights of the Round, lolRoshkinin, Supermarket, Drifting, etc. Some of the early ones went terribly, whereas some went rather well. I enjoy running RPs; I like the role of the "guiding hand." But I've also learned that that guiding hand must be moderated--RPs are group efforts; the "leader" of the RP only provides the general situation and context of the RP, and the RPers are free to react how they want and create their own sub-situations within that context. *shrugs* Also... WJC and pplz were all srs bsns at the beginning too, believe me, but a lot of people have learned to enjoy less-serious RPing these days. So that's why things like that happen. |

Indeed. RPing should be highly freeform; leaders don't need to keep strict control over everything that happens. |
