It should have been a dead give-away when the lightning was scarlet… Maekis thought bitterly as he fled through the woods as fast as his feet could carry him. He was in control of a small group of hunters who were in search of a band of wanderers who were rumored to be scions of the city of Cirrus. But after a few hours, the skies flashed with lightning, and roared with thunder. The lightning fell from the sky and blew craters into the earth. The lightning was scarlet red… That’s when the trap closed. Men descended from the sky, in a flare of bright light. They hovered in midair for a few moments. And then within seconds, two of his men were impaled into the ground with spears headed with bright luminous gems. Seconds later, the spears exploded and killed another three of his men. His remaining men looked wildly around in the sky, but couldn’t see anything through the clouds. They began firing their crossbows out at random. The moment they spent their quarrels, the scarlet lightning fell from the sky again, and charred his men to cinders. Maekis didn’t stick around to be killed, he ran. He would sooner run and live, then be turned into charcoal by a bunch of crazy assholes with their exploding spears, and red lightning. He heard something whistling through the air. Maekis turned in time to catch one of those exploding spear things, and he hurled it back in the direction it came from. It stuck into a tree, and then moments later exploded. “Damn crazy bastards!” He shouted, “Quit using those damn explodie things!” After he said that, three men flew past him and cut off his exit. “Wait, since when can people fly?!” Maekis shouted with a large amount of confusion. He didn’t wait for them to answer; he flung his knife at the man hovering in the middle. It flew at him, but shattered inches away from the man. He saw a brief shimmer of energy that quickly vanished. “Force field?” Maekis wailed, “That isn’t fair!” He threw himself at the man, and pulled him down to the ground. He gripped his hands onto the force field that surrounded the man, and drew strength from the earth as he tried to crush him with his own force field. But Maekis quickly saw that this wasn’t going to work. So he decided to take advantage of the gap he made, and ran. After a few yards, he turned and saw that those three men were gone. He didn’t stop to wonder where they went, he just kept running full speed ahead. He needed to get away from this place, and find some people. |

Large Life Form Detected. Analyzing. . . .Confirmation. Humanoid. Likely Hostile. Duck. Stay Back. Maekis was out of luck. The thing that crashed out from behind a thicket of thorny vines to confront him was just about as close to a person as you could get. Not quite close enough, though. The words that emitted from the iron man's mouth were as hollow as its insides, and it was clearly some sort of well-designed machine. As for sentience? . . . Possible. It had been speaking to something, so it certainly had at least some measure of intelligence. If it was endowed with any sort of consciousness or self-consciousness, though, it certainly possesed little enough compassion for wounded survivors of a massacre. Approach No Further Or Your Life Shall Be Forfeit. The iron man brandished a sword, a weapon that was the same dull, copper color as the entirety of its body. Its blade was far from dull, though, as it demonstrated by chopping through a fairly thick tree branch hanging overhead that promptly crashed onto its helmet. The thing was unfazed. |

Maekis paused to catch his breath, and draw his sword. Then he said raggedly, "Oh Hell no..." He shook his head violently to make sure he wasn't hallucinating. That's a... man made of metal. He resumed his run, and lunged at the coppery guy with his sword. He reached his senses out to his sword, and focused on its latent energy and hardened the blade. Above him, the storm clouds slowly began to vanish. Hopefully that meant that the three flyers left with it. |

The iron man seemed to be confused. It stared down for a few seconds at its chest; the sword's tip had just managed to pierce through and embed itself inside. One massive gauntlet reached up to grasp the sharp blade. Your Weapon Is Strong. With one effortless tug, he pulled out Maekis's sword, ignoring the damage that had been done to its breastplate. Your Life Is Still Forfeit. So saying, it clutched its own massive broadsword in both hands while swing outward in a horizontal slice. |

Maekis let his weight drop and fell perpendicular to the copperman's line of attack. Maekis shot his left hand out to the ground to support his newly shifted weight, and snapped his right arm, which was curled up into a tight fist, up in a brutal thrust. He hoped his gauntlet would prevent a serious break, he could deal with a few fractured bones. ____ Omen moved quietly through the woods, and saw someone somehow… hovering in the woods. A slow, cold smile crept onto his face. Finally, there was something to hunt. He saw a faint glimmer around him, and deduced there was something protecting him. It was energy based, and it most likely would be able to take quite a beating. Omen slipped an arrow into his wrist-bow, and took aim. He aimed towards the head and loosed it at the man. It connected and shattered against the shield. And the head exploded into a thick white powder. Which proceeded to cover the shield, and showed Omen a single blind spot. Omen knew there was a use for chalk headed arrows. He just was waiting patiently for that use to present itself. Omen loosed another arrow and saw it hit the man square in the middle of the stomach. He landed with a thud, looked at the arrow confused, and then didn’t move again. |

The man trudged up the hill towards the smoke he had seen on the horizon. Recently, things had been crazy in the world. Tribes with strange new (old?) technologies had been around, getting caught in the conflicts of the four cities. The looting was good though. "Ugh, hills everywhere... why must they always fight in the hills? I swear, as soon as I can I am getting out of this buisness, or my name isn't-" The man reached the top of the hill and the scene before him stole his breath. There were dead bodies (or fragments at least) everywhere and broken armor and weapons lay scattered all around the battlefield. Small fires were burning sporadicly throughout the field. As the man descended the opposite slope of the hill towards the ruinous battlefield, something caught his eye. Near the centre of the battlefield was an odd contraption. It appeared to be roughly humanoid in shape, but it was made entirely of a bright, silver-like metal. It was torn apart by a massive ballista bolt lodged in it's chest, but it still looked valueable. The man worked quickly. He opened his backpack, removed his mallet and crowbar and began prying open the armored contraption. First, he removed the ballista bolt from its chest and inspected the cavity, removing all loose pieces of scrap and placing them in a spare sack. Next, he began dis-assembling the machine piece by piece, beginning with the outer shell and working inwards. Once his sack had been filled, he tied it closed and began to walk away, but suddenly something caught his eye deeper inside the mavhination. He went back to dis-assemmbling so he could claim his prize. After another few minutes of work, he carefully removed a blue gemstone, easily the size of his head, from its casing within the mess if gears. He held it up in front of his face and inspected it carefully. Within the gem was a sparking and swirling pattern of lights, seemily calling out to him... "Hey! Irithil!" In one smooth motion, he dropped the gem into his pack, drew his shortbow, nocked an arrow and aimed it at his potential foe. "Oh, it's you Barnaros..." "Find something good today did we?" Irithil looked down towards his bag and picked it up. "You can have the rest," said Irithil, "I can't carry anymore" "Thanks buddy, you do the artificers guild proud!" said Barnaros, greedily opening his own empty bag and running down the hillside. Irithil looked nervously back as he walked up the slope the way he came. Had Barnaros seen the gem? |

The impact did little to faze the iron man, as it was almost like, well . . . punching a brick wall and expecting the wall to collapse. He was, however, a bit peeved that he had missed, though he didn't particularly show it. Not that he could, since his face was understandably set in an unchanging expression. Being made of metal, he shouldn't have particularly expected to hit anything anyway, since he was just about as slow as -- "That's it. Stop it right now. Ferrin, back down. And you! You're a horrible narrator. That was the singularly most awkward battle I have had the displeasure of hearing, and there've only been three moves so far." The iron man, Ferrin, methodically turned in place to look at the ne wspeaker, who was, assumedly, the one he had told to duck and stay back earlier. One could see why -- It was a tiny girl. A tiny green girl, for that matter, though the awkward shade didn't look particularly bad on her. She certainly could be considered pretty, though at risk of being labeled a pedophile, as she couldn't possibly have been over the age of 10. "You." She addressed Maekis. "You were in that battle with the Cirrus people, correct? I remember seeing you marching with the others earlier. It's alright, Ferrin, he doesn't like them either." . . . Perhaps. His Life Is Still Forfeit. Ferrin spoke this without the slightest trace of malice in his voice. |

"Cirrus people..." Maekis scratched his head, "You mean those insane flying people with the exploding spears?" He looked behind him to make sure that there wasn't anyone behind him still, "Yeah, the people I was marching with met up with them. They obliterated them, and I ran before they turned me into charcoal." He went to fetch his sword and returned it to his sheath. "What's a little girl doing out here in the middle of the woods with a... copper guy?" |

The girl looked somewhat annoyed, though she didn't bother to correct Maekis. "A friend of ours is missing. I live nearby, and Ferrin visits my home on occasion, so we thought we ought to go searching. Only thing we've found so far is a lotta flying Cirrus folk trying to kill everything that moves." Cowards. They Do Not Fly Low Enough For Fair Battle. The girl evidently agreed, as she nodded a few times before continuing onwards. "You wouldn't happen to have seen him? He's a bit shorter than you are. Human adolescent male, I would say . . . Ferrin?" 5 Foot 4. Hair Absorbs Visible Light of All Wavelengths. Pigmentation Upon Cheeks. "Nope, I've been too busy running for my life." He said proudly. "If he was anywhere behind me, he was hopefully not near the initial battleground." He didn't bother to say, 'because if he was, he's probably charbroiled now.' "But judging from how the skies are clearing up, I think I can go take a look around and see if I can find him." |

Irithil arrived back at the guildhall posthaste and stood in line waiting to have his findings appraised. "Some lines we're having these days, eh?" said a man in front of him. "Yeah, with the sudden reappearance of the old technology, scavengers like us may be put out of work!" Irithil payed the two men ahead of him no heed. In his pack, he could hear the gem thrumming quietly and contently. "... I was meant to find it... it is mine... no-one shall ever take you..." Suddenly one of the men in front of him spoke. "Hey, you okay man? You're talkin' to yourself." "Yes, I'm fine... just fine..." The man gave him a shifty look then went back to standing in line. |

"You would do that? Then I'll go with you." The small girl promptly declared, causing the iron man to visibly react in shock. Which was quite a feat, as it more or less involved him falling backwards and catching himself at the last moment, all very slowly. She ignored it. "Ferrin, you can hardly pass for human. Please go back and inform my sisters. No ifs, ands, or buts." Ferrin stood stock still for several seconds before smartly turning and marching off into the woods. "He's been gone a while. You sure you want to help?" |

"A half-day. At least. We noticed he was gone this morning, but it looked like he had slept, so it shouldn't be longer than two days. Ferrin and I don't really know how to track people, but I can show you where we found some prints we think are his." She paused for a moment. "My name is Naoki. If we meet anyone, I'm your daughter with a rare skin condition. Non-contagious." One more pause, accompanied by a raised eyebrow. "You sure you want to help? Didn't all your friends just get murdered horribly and shouldn't you be in some form of shock right now? I don't want to force you to do anything you don't want to." |

Maekis shook his head, "They weren't my friends. They were my partners, and professional soldiers... They knew the risk of the hunt. And they were willing to pay the price." He made a circle with his forefinger and thumb, and bent the wind inside it into a lens. A few hundred yards came forward in a rush, and he saw a body laying down on the ground with an arrow in his stomach. And then above him in a tree was a man in a crimson overcoat. The man looked at him, and then jumped to another tree, and then went into the darkness. "Maybe he knows..." Maekis said quietly. "Come on." |

"Alright, then. Thank you." She expected to hear his name as a sign of mutual acquaintanceship and whatnot, but it didn't seem as if he was going to offer. Naoki waited a bit more after his little magic trick before shrugging and dropping a hint. "Hey, you." Subtlety at its best. "I'm a little short. All I saw was the tops of some trees." It didn't really matter as long as he knew where he was going, she supposed, but she was having a hard time keeping up. Small feet and all. |

Why can't I sleep... Perhaps you do not want to sleep? Irithil shot straight up in bed and looked around. Who's there? My name is Cryshinibon Where are you? I don't believe that's how things work Irithil. That is your name, right? I that over-weight guy calling you that back at the battlefield Irithil got out of bed, put on a pair of pants, straightened out his long, midnight blue hair and opened the door to the hallway of the inn. Where are you going? He left the room and headed down to the stairs to the common room. The bartender was just closing up. Irithil walked towards him. "It's awfully late to be walkin' around without a shirt on, eh stranger?" "I'll take a tankard of the strongest stuff you have good sir, I don't care if it's lethal, I just got crazied." "Crazied, eh? Well, I can't see any fault in your logic..." The barkeep poured the last remnants of a keg into a large glass and slid down the bar to the waiting hand of Irithil. He raised the glass to his lips and drained it in a single, massive draught. "...I have to go sleep now, before the alcohol gets into my bloodstream and I can't get up the stairs." said Irithil as he hastily ascended the stairs and re-entered his room. Where did you go? Irithil fell to the ground, wholly and entirely unconcious ((Halp! Italics don't work!)) |

Maekis was about to tell the girl his name when he felt some steel claw resting gently against his jugular vein. "You're too slow," the man in the red coat said softly, "Don't move, I have an arrow nocked, and pointed to the back of the little girls skull." Maekis felt the claw tap him slightly, "Drop the sword." Maekis growled as he did so. "And now answer me, are you with those Cirrus people, like that fellow right up there with an arrow protruding from his stomach?" |

"Oreh!" The girl spun around eagerly, arrow pointed at the back of her head or not. "If you have your bow aimed at me, what are you using to poke him with? Are you a three-handed freak show escaped from the circus? Can I see it under that claw thing? Is it like all withered and attached to your parasitic twin? I've heard of those cases before, you know, but I didn't think they actually still functioned, vestigial and all, but maybe you have some sort of neurological ailment that's causing that gross mutation to happen just like my neurological ailment that's going to make your face melt off if you don't move that bow." Naoki gently guided the arrowhead away from her and clapped her hands together. "If we had wings, we wouldn't be walking in a forest, you know." |

Zylar tried as best as he could to patch up the wounds, but it was almost futile. He was just having a nice nap in the forest, having lost all his money gambling (again), when some crazy battle erupted around him. He hated regular fighting anyways, with all those sharp swords and arrows flying around. A guy could get killed in something like that. If that was all the ruckus was, though, he wouldn't have minded too much, since he can usually get out without having to fight. But no. This time, he just had to find himself stuck in the middle of some crazy magic assault by flying people, complete with lightning and exploding spears. Yeesh, as if regular spears aren't bad enough. The point was, Zylar found himself with a large burn covering most of his left arm, and a huge gash on his shoulder. If he didn't find help soon, he'd probably lose conciousness in about....10 more seconds. Well, at least I won't have to repay my gambling debts... The last thing he saw as his vision faded was a slight rustling in the bushes in front of him. Someone...out there? Ughh... |

Omen tapped his wristbow with his fighting claw as he took it off of Maekis' neck. "Neither did that man over there, but he was flying... Up until I shot him at least." Omen's eyes went glazed for a moment, then focused again, "These Cirrus people have been scaring off all of the game lately. He's the third one I've shot down this week. You're looking for someone, aren't you? It's the only reason why you'd be wandering these woods nowadays." |

"Good guess." Naoki smiled brightly, showing off a set of perfect white teeth, a stark contrast to her mossy skin. It was difficult to tell now whether her sudden shift in personality had merely been a brilliant bit of acting to get the two of them out of a sticky spot, or whether she really was fascinated by vestigial limbs and parasitic twins. Whatever the case, she responded just as cheerfully and pluckily as she had earlier. "About your height, black hair, and freckly. You seen him?" |

"There was a strand of black hair about two miles to the east. Found it an hour ago, smelled about five hours old at that time... So I'd say he's about nine miles east by now, assuming that he didn't change direction... Hopefully he did, as that's where a large concentration of Cirrus men are. And they tend to abduct or kill anyone who gets within a hundred yards." Maekis stared at the man for a moment, "How the Hell do you know when a single hair fell to the ground just by the scent?" He demanded. "Very carefully," Omen said before he turned and walked away. "I'll show you the way. And if he's changed directions, I'll pick up the trail for you." |

Troy, who was doing his best to avoid the odd people who were bent on destroying every living being in the area, stumbled across an unconscious(?) man who seemed to have severe burns on one side. 'Heh, not so lucky' he thought to himself. He looked at the body, and tried to ascertain whether he was alive or not, but he wasn't really sure. He considering looting the man's body, but it went against his nature. But he needed to survive. But could he leave this man here, alive or dead? If he was alive, he needed his help. If he was dead, he probably had a family that would want Closure. Troy sighed and decided to poke the man with his walking stick. *poke* |

"Thank you, Mister! I'm Naoki. This is my daddy." She beamed brightly at Maekis with just the hint of a smile in her eyes. He still hadn't told her his name. "He wants to say that he's sorry for cursing because Mummy doesn't like it, right?" Smile definitely there now, along with an evil sort of glimmer leveled in Maekis's direction. "We're really worried about him, since he's never wandered off before. He's not too well in the head, you know." |

Zylar drifted around in a haze, seeing those strange, destructive men raze everything to the group. One of them reversed his spear and started poking...poking...poking... His eyes fluttered open. It wasn't one of those strange people poking him, it was just some random traveller with a walking stick. "You don't need to poke a hole through my ribs.." Zylar muttered. Or tried to, at least, he could barely wheeze out the first few words. Damn...those wounds were worse than I thought... "Help please?" That he managed to get out intelligently. |

"Uhhh...." Troy seemed to be freezing up. He fumbled around in his pockets until he found what he was looking for. He took a small saphire out, and inserted it into a little nook at the end of his stick. He mumbled something that was probably incoherent, and a bluish white fluid emerged from the stick. It covered some of the burns on the man's body. Troy mumbled some more, and suddenly blue lightning shot back into his hand, and surged through his body. He fell over. He started to get back up, cursing. |

"Irithil! Wake up!" yelled a woman's voice. I groaned and opened my eyes... it felt like I had just drank a large quantity of alcohol in a very short period of time and then fallen flat on my face. I was lying face first on the ground in a room made of solid blue crystal. "You shouldn't drink so irresponsibly" said the woman. She was a rather lovely woman of slight build and in proper proportion for one so well endowed. She had blue hair and was wearing a dark blue robe. She had pale skin and piercing violet eyes that seemingly had lightning crackling under them constantly. "Who are you?" Irithil asked. "That seems to be all you are asking me as of late..." she groaned, "The name of I have introduced myself as is Cryshinibon, but that is not my true name, it is a name forced upon me by the crystal. In here, you may call me Rhea Aeolia, spirit of storms" "Where is 'here' exactly?" "We are currently inside the gemstone you found today. I was the one calling out to you, and here is why. I am trapped in this gemstone by the Cirruseans, and I need someone to free me and help me exact my swift vengeance on the Cirruseans. Interested?" "Shouldn't you have contacted some sort of powerful wizard or something? I very little of the arcane, and I'm fairly sure the Cirruseans were wiped out long ago. Sure, there have been tribes claiming to be the Cirruseans wreaking havoc recently and as such my business has profited. Why would I help you?" "I can offer you escape from your life. I can show you the world, I can grant you power, I can help you make the world yours if you so desire, all in return for simply helping me escape this crystalline prison. The Cirrusean threat is very real, that is why I was captured and used as a primitive battery for one of their monstrous war-golems." Irithil stood silent, pondering the spirits offer. "What do I need to do?" Rhea smiled and said simply, "I will impart you with part of my power, and with it you will be able to loosen the hold this infernal crystal has placed on my power. Once the your granted power has grown such that you and I are stronger than it, you will have to perform a ritual to restore my physical form and I will be freed. From that point on, I will follow you and help you accomplish whatever desires you should wish." "How will you give me some of your powers?" "We must form a blood-pact. I will cut a wound in your hand and mine, and the two crimson streams will blend together, forming the pact. Eventually, the crystal won't be able to hold back our collective powers and I will break free." Rhea drew a knife from no-where and cut a slit in her hand then glided over to Irithil. "Hold out your hand." She commanded, and Irithil obeyed. A thin line of blood was drawn on Irithil's hand and they clasped their hands together. With a jolt, Irithil awoke on the floor of his Inn room to the sound of knocking. |

Zylar looked down at himself in surprise. That...whatever it was that came out of the man's stick - staff - seemed to be doing the trick. He started to climb to his feet, but the pain hit him again. Not as bad as before, but still worse than anything he had experienced prior to that day. "Oh...damn, that really hurts." Zylar looked at the stranger who helped him. "I guess I have to thank you for that." It still hurt to talk, too. "I'd get up and shake your hands, but I'm a little busy with agonizing pain." Then he doubled up and started coughing. Great, he thought, looking at the blood smearing the leaves in front of him. Internal injuries too. I really need to learn to stop running my mouth so much. |

"I'm Maekis," he said quietly to the hunter. "Lead the way." ______ After about an hour of trailing after the hunter, he stopped and put his hand up. "The boys trail disappears here." He said quietly. As Maekis opened his mouth to ask a question, Omen shot his hand up and covered his mouth. "Shhh. There are Cirrus men spread all around this place... I think there's a building here. The boy is most likely inside." |

Troy scratched his head. "Eh, well, I didn't do much. Should we try to find help? You're in pretty rough shape, and I mean, I can't do a whole lot with a staff..." he removed the gem from the staff, and replaced it in his pocket. As he did this his features seemed to change momentarily, but it was something someone would call a trick of the eye, because people don't have features that change like that. |

"Well aren't we in a pickle?" Troy pondered what he could do. His options were limited. He could leave to find help, and risk the man dying or being captured or stuff, or losing this location. He could leave, and forget it happened, but that would tear him apart for the rest of his life. He could stay, and do nothing to help, and risk his own life... He really didn't know what to do. |

"Oh, this is getting rediculous. Bend down so I can touch you." Zylar had enough. Doing this could very possibly kill him, but he was dead either way, and he didn't want to sit on the damp ground anymore anyways. Besides, if he died, he wouldn't have to pay his gambling debts. |

"Right, whatever," Zylar said as he touched both hand's to the man's temples. "This might sting a bit." Zylar reached into the depths of his soul, reaching for that vast void held inside all users of dark magic. Pulling some of his spirit's strength, he channeled it into the muscles of the man trying to help him. Leaning back, Zylar breathed heavily. He was surprised that he survived. I guess I really am getting stronger. Aloud, he said, "That...should do it." |

Troy lifted the man up, and kinda realized he didn't have a clue where to take this man. It had been ages since Troy had been in a civilized area, he'd been wandering through the lands for what he measured as about four and a half months. He decided to walk off in a random direction. |

Having padded along behind the two men for a while, Naoki was a bit too exhausted to do anything but pant for the first few moments after they had stopped. Then she straightened, her eyes glimmering and smile widening. "I think you're right. And I see something you don't." The last phrase was whispered in sing-song, and she pointed to a piece of dark cloth hanging from the branches of a nearby tree. |

Omen turned and examined the piece of cloth. "It's been there for about... a half hour." He said softly. He looked at the field, and then he took off his dark red jacket. Strapped to his back was a very large crossbow. Weighing in at around 150 pounds, this crossbow made heavy crossbows look like slingshots. Especially when loaded with a crossbow bolt the length of Omen's arm, and twice as thick. The entire thing was made of chalk stone. Omen laid down and took aim at the center of the field. "Maekis, if I'm right and there's something there, I need you to keep the Cirrus men busy as me and the girl try to find the kid. Their shields are weak in the middle of the stomach, so strike there." "Oh joy, I get to play with flying assholes with exploding spears again..." Maekis growled quietly as he took his sword out again. He nodded to Omen, and Omen fired the crossbow. The giant bolt streaked out from where they were hiding and it didn't even make it ten feet before it exploded into white powder. Exposing the base of what Maekis assumed to be a big ass tower. As the towers base was exposed, storm clouds gathered, and crimson lightning struck the ground. "Alright, go!" Maekis shouted to them as he caught a Cirrus man descending from the sky in a flying tackle that knocked him to the ground. |

((Oh, I totally went blind when the forums were moved around and thought this was gone . . . Sorry.)) Naoki was stunned for a few seconds when Maekis yelled for her to run. What did he expect her to do, suddenly gain the ability to not move twice as slow as the average adult male? The divebombing flying people rather motivated her, though, and she immediately sprinted off after Omen, her little feet pedaling as rapidly as she could manage to move them. "EEEK!" was what she would have said if she hadn't tripped and fallen. Thankfully, the flying man was thrown off by her sudden shrinkage in height and buried his spear halfway into the ground. "EEEK!" was what she said for real this time as she sprinted forward again, chased by what appeared to be a living bolt of lightning ejected out from the spear. |

Maekis ripped his dagger out of his belt and jammed it right where Omen said the weak spot was in the shields. And sure enough there it was. The dagger clove through and laid firm in the Cirrus' mans stomach. With a wretch Maekis jerked his dagger in a circle and disemboweled the man. He took ahold of the dead mans spear and hurled it at the man pursuing the child and the hunter. It struck the shield around him and exploded. But the shield was designed to keep physical things out of it apparently, not heat. The Cirrus man fell to the ground dead. His skin was blackened and he looked a lot like melted wax. ___ Omen spun around and grabbed the child and put her on his back. "Do me a favor and tell me if you see any behind us." He said as he opened the door to the tower and got in. He quickly closed the door and barricaded it. And that's when he got a good look around. It was a huge tower. It went up as high as Omen could see, and even higher than that. It's highest areas were cloaked in shadow that even Omen couldn't see through. There were a large number of rooms on each floor, most of them holding cells... And there was a huge machine in the middle of it all. It was delving deep into the earth "Oh Hell..." Omen said softly, "This isn't just a tower... It's a drill." Omen put the kid down, "Alright, let's find your friend and get out. The sooner the better... I think they're trying to drill into Adamant and give their friends an easy way to join up." |

Troy and Zylar walked through the forest, no specific destination in mind. Seeing as neither knew exactly where they were, it didn't really matter - they just needed to find someone to help heal Zylar. Of course, the way Zylar's luck had been going, they didn't find help. Nope, instead they found someone fighting with the strange flying people who had almost killed Zylar in the first place. The man - the regular, non-flying man - seemed to be doing better than Zylar would have believed possible. At least, he was managing to hurt the bastards. Maybe it was a mistake going that way, because the man seemed a little jumpy. Jumpy enough, at least, to throw a knife or three in the general direction of Troy and Zylar. |

"Adamant . . . ?" Naoki temporarily ignored what Omen was muttering, as the affairs of the Cirrus were really none of her concern at all. Glancing around at the holding cells instead, she wrinkled her brow and began to walk along in wide circles, muttering audibly. "This is strange." The small child declared after several moments of pacing. "Yarrow shouldn't have been caught by those flying monkeys. He's too smart for that. He left in the middle of the night; it wouldn't have taken him more than a few hours to get here. So the cloak being there only a half-hour doesn't seem right either. Not that I'm saying you're wrong, but it seems more like -- " " -- I was waiting here for you to come." Before she could even react, the girl found herself grasped firmly by the upper forearm (aka The Female Incapacitating Spot), a weapon of some kind held to her throat. "I wasn't expecting it to be you, Nocki. I wanted to use the Cirrus to keep you away. Didn't think your sisters would send their youngest out. I'm sorry. Please be still." The figure standing behind Naoki somehow managed to be obscured by the shadows, even though there really weren't any. Yarrow (assumedly) glanced up at Omen and nodded, his movements still discernible. "Please leave and allow us to settle our business." |

Omen hissed as he slipped a bolt into his wristbow. "We don't have time for this." He said as he slipped some stuff into his pockets. "There are Cirrus men out there, and Adamant men probably working their way up thanks to this drill." He leveled his wrist to just above Naoki. "I'm not in the mood to die here. And you'd die too. Maekis is currently making those Cirrus men VERY angry, and when they finally get the opportunity to get through that door, they're going to make everyone they find in here very DEAD." He took a deep breath, "So let the kid go so we can get out and not die." ___ Outside Maekis was running around in circles like a madman as he dodged exploding spears and lightning bolts. |

"Yes. That was the purpose of the location." The quiet young man glanced downwards at the girl he held captive. "She will not die. And I do not plan to. However . . . She told you that I was lost and needed your assistance, I assume? That was not fair, Noki." The green girl attempted to shrug nonchalantly, an act made more difficult by the blade held to her throat. "Yarrow, if you expected me to track you down by myself, you'd have been waiting here a very long time. Ferrin was helping at first, too." "This is private business. You know that." Naoki stumbled forward several steps as Yarrow guided her from behind. Though his face was visible now, it was as expressionless and undecipherable as when he had been fully cloaked in darkness. "I will help you leave this place." His dark eyes gazed at Omen's face for several seconds before he nodded once more. "Noki, stay." The weapon vanished from her throat as quickly as it had appeared; where he had placed it was a mystery, for he held no sheath by his side. |

Troy dropped to the ground as sharp pointy of objects flew at him and Zylar. In a quick motion, a red crystal was now lodged in his staff. "Can you fight?" he asked Zylar. He was beginning to think it was a bad choice to stray from the path of the sun and moon. |
