Should flutes be considered woodwinds? Because all the other woodwinds use reeds, but they don't. I say they should be renamed "high brass".

Yeah, they use reeds, and woodwind...they're not brass. They're silver or silver plating, so brass is automatically out of the question, and can't you use a wooden flute?

Yes.
Flutes are woodwinds. As are piccolos, recorders, and whistles, none of which use reeds. Flutes have been made out of wood, yes, but the main difference between woodwinds and brass is in the lack of the bell that directs the flow of the sound.
