The swamp she found herself in was misty and dank. The waters black and murky. The air was so close it was almost smothering. This was perhaps the worst swamp in all of Venge. Her earring had pointed her to this swamp town. At first, she thought she’d find a vampire, perhaps even her father.

However, all she found was a ruined town, with spider-like monsters rampaging through the town. She jumped from a rotted tree onto dry land. Water would not kill her instantly like it would a full-blooded vampire, but it would still hurt her. And she wasn’t in the mood for those kinds of burns.

When she landed onto dry land, a spider creature dug itself out of the ground and tried to impale her with a claw. Maraya drew one of her swords and slashed off the spiders’ leg. It howled in pain, until she slammed her blade into the monsters throat. It fell to the ground, and vomited out a pile of pinkish-white foul smelling sludge. Then it laid still.

She twisted her blade and then pulled it out of the monster. She then leapt to another section of dried land. Since she was here, she might as well try to find survivors and get them to safety.

“Such monstrosities...” He gasped, as he stood on top of the mausoleum where he was conducting a funeral before these creatures burrowed out from under the ground and began devouring them.

He and three others had survived, the other three were inside the mausoleum itself, protected by the stone underneath. He took it upon himself to try to signal for help. All the while if he saw a monster come towards the mausoleum, he blasted it away with a blast of light.

“If you can hear me Primeval, please, please send someone to rescue us. I cannot keep these creatures at bay much longer.” He prayed hoping his god would send him the help he needed.

Taking a deep breath to calm himself, he brought a spell to mind. He thrust his hand into the air and sent a bright ball of light into the sky. When the orb reached about twenty-six feet, a column of light shone down upon the mausoleum. This would either bring help, or bring more of those monsters down upon them. Or perhaps both.

"The vampire's out to play...he's going to thwart his prey..." Half signing, half muttering the German death techno to himself, Verach moved swiftly and silently through the abandoned village. The people here were mostly dead, but he was here for a snack to sustain himself, not for a three course meal. I get so...testy...when I'm hungry. Verach thought, stepping over more spider corpses. He could just follow the trail of the dead to whoever the killer was, but they couldn't be of this village; if the people there knew how to swing a weapon, he wouldn't have to look for them, just break into a house and drink. Of course, he had to wonder why he decided to take this detour through the swamp and the water...

Ebrey waded his way through the dense ooze and used his spear whenever it was necessary to push aside some form of obstacle in his path. In a little bit he started to move faster. He wasn't in a hurry, but then, he didn't need to spend one second more than was required in a place such as this. A bog had already settled down around him, and if he didn't make it out soon, he'd be food for whatever inhabitatants this swamp harbored.

"Man, the thin's I go through fer love!" he exclaimed, moving forward and groping about to make sure there was some trees to support him, lest he were to fall down into the mouth of some hungry (or ugly) fiend.

The swamp seemed endless. In fact, Ebrey suspected that it was endless. After all, he had been walking through it for over an hour now, and he still hadn't noticed a visible edge. What if there were crocodiles or werewolves out here? Or worse? Wait, what could be worse? A were-crocodile? He shivered at the thought and quickened his pace.

"Man, the thin's I go through fer love!" he repeated, sighing.

As she leapt from knoll to knoll, she came across a church of Primeval. Surrounding it were those nasty piles of sludge that the creature she killed vomited up. She got onto dry land again and pushed open the doors to the church.

"Good thing I'm not hypersensitive to holy objects like vampires are." She said wryly as she went through the documents. Maybe one of them would tell her exactly what these things were.

After about an half-hours worth of searching, she finally found something. "In the Five Fifty Eight of our Lord, we cast a spell of divine protection over this swamp, and the horrors that sleep here. Here in the Light of our Lord may we have eternal protection from the Mariadrai and the Duchess of the Underworld." She read aloud.

"So these things are called Mariadrai...Thats elvish...From what I remember of the language, Mariadrai means 'swamp monster'." She continued reading, it described these creatures perfectly, even to their eating patterns. It appeared that mounds of sludge she was finding were leftovers of what the Mariadrai ate. They vomited up what they could not digest. Now all she had to do was find survivors, and get the hell out of this swamp before this...Duchess awakens.

Verach's ears twitched at the sound, but he didn't let it bother him. He'd find the people who were still alive quickly enough, but if he got to the weak ones first, he could have his fill, perhaps even without conflict.

Usually she liked water, but now? Now it was dirty, stinking swamp water. Who would ever be able to survive in such a smell. Lessa shivered. She hated being here, she hated the bugs, she hated the water, she hated the smell and she hated the person that was singing something. Wait? Singing? That would mean.... Lessa listen more carefully, yes, there really was someone singing over there. Lessa wadded further, through the stinking water and sighed at her clothes. They were dirty.

"Hello," Lessa said as she saw a man in the distance. Though she didn't know if he could see her. She never knew with her elven senses being fairly good.

Hopping from knoll to knoll, she leapt over a spider creature and kept on leaping. She heard singing, and she'd find out the source of it soon enough.

Yeah, maybe I wasn't too clear...

---

Lessa slowly wadded forward, noticing the lance in the man's hand. She'd better be careful, the man look a little jumpy. "It was me," she said. "I'm the one that said hello. I heard you singing."
