The world of Midrea Magic Magic is drawn from the Seven Elements, and the Two Stars. Earth, Fire, Wind, Ice, Water, Nature, Sound, the Sun, and the Moon. Every spell requires at least two of these catalysts. I.E. mix Earth and the Moon, and you can manipulate the dead. Resurrection is not possible, as anyone brought back are only echoes of their original selves. Another example is Wind and Ice with that you can create a blizzard. The mages of Gengari are the most feared, as people know the tale of the Calbara Canyon. Races Several races dwell in world of Midrea Humans: The most common and widespread. They are the youngest race on Midrea, and are often looked down upon by elder races as upstarts. They are masters of war. Elves: Perhaps the second oldest race on Midrea. They are more experienced in the areas of magic then they are of martial fields. Their heritage is proclaimed in striking (some say unnatural) beauty. Werebeasts: This race is perhaps the most diverse race known in Midrea. They range from vicious killers, to peaceful wanderers (These are the rarest, as a majority of werebeast, no matter how nice, are rarely peaceful.) People who fight with, and against werebeasts know they are horrible enemies, and implacable allies. Werebeasts are have a beast form, and a human form, and can shift in between the two forms nearly instantly. Demons: Demons come from a separate plane of existence then the other creatures of Midrea. This realm is merely known as the Necropolis. The barrier between the two planes of existence is very thin, so demons slip through quite often. The barrier is weakest during the full moon. Vampires: Almost as old as the elves, vampires are known as merciless killers, it doesn’t matter if they’re men, women, or children, vampires will kill without pity. They are feared by most other races. Except they are weak against the sun, holy symbols, running water (I.E. Rivers), and garlic. Dhampir: Products of human and vampire couplings. They have the same abilities as vampires, except without their weaknesses to holy objects, water, and the sun. Water and the sun will still cause them damage, but it will not destroy them instantly, unless they are exposed to a light source that can equal the intensity of the sun. They are usually as evil as their vampire parent is, unless they are taken in by a human. Gardami: Products of werebeast and vampire couplings. They are regarded as a more powerful version of the Dhampir, as they have vampire abilities combined with the werebeast abilities. As with Dhampir, they are as evil as their vampire parent, unless their werebeast parent can manage to take them from the vampire. This is a rare occurrence. Shifters: The rarest of the races. They are the oldest race on Midrea. It is said that the elves and werebeasts have a trace of Shifter blood in them. Those who belong to this race are blessed with incredible powers, but cursed with it as well. Shifters can change their form to anything, well almost anything, they have to stay within their own gender, but they have no real form of their own. Members of this race are nomadic and aloof, never spending time in one place for long. Religion: The prominent religion is the worship of Primeval, it is simply called the Faith. It is separated into three branches, the Faith Militant known as the Swords; the Priests, or the Staffs; and the Wardens, or the Gavels. The prominent figure of the Faith is the kingpriest, who presides over the Faith. There small darker religions as well. They worship an extinct race called the Eyeless Ones. They were believed to be darkness made flesh. They have no eyes; hence the name, but they can see fear. It is this that made them such fearsome monsters, as there were no creature, from Humans to vampires, which did not fear them. Though long believed dead, there are several cults that worship these creatures, the most powerful and known of which is called the Sect of the Sightless. Countries: Once long ago, there was only one country, the country of Eraset. Over the centuries, Eraset fragmented into the following countries: Eraset: Though fragmented over the years, Eraset is still a force to be reckoned with. As Eraset is the birthplace of the Faith, there are two different armies guarding the country. Lately the Faith have been scrambling for something, no one is positive what it is though... Located in the middle of the continent. Venge: Venge was the first to successfully break away from Eraset. They are mostly merchants who use the great number of tributaries to ship their products into other countries. They have never been successfully conquered due to the lack of plains. When fighting enemies in their borders, they tend to draw them into the swamps and bogs that are quite common in the country; once the enemy is in the swamp, they never come back out. They used these tactics to bleed the Eraset army during their war to be free. Located to the south of Eraset. Kara: The country is mostly inhabited by the elves. They dwell in the forests and jungles that cover the entire country. Unlike the other countries, Kara broke away from Eraset through diplomacy instead of war. For this reason, Eraset trusts Kara more then the other countries. Located in the west of the continent Yewa: This country is located in the distant north of the continent; Yewa is a cold and dark country that rarely sees sunlight. This makes it a perfect dwelling for vampires. The folks of Yewa live in fear of the dark and what it might bring to their houses. Even so, their warriors try to keep the vampires at bay by culling their numbers when the sun rises. They gained their independence from Eraset after an entire army of both the Faith and Eraset were completely annihilated by a combined force of humans and vampires. This was the only time they were allied with their enemies, and once Eraset left, they turned on each other once more. Gengari: This is a country of learning and magic. They are famed for their institutes where they delve into mysteries in this world. They earned their independence after a vicious war when they banded together and channeled their magic into creating a huge canyon (The Calbara canyon), separating their country from the rest of the continent. They open their borders once a month, taking in scholars and travelers. They do not let any army into their country. They are the only country with which Eraset has a deep-seated enmity. |
