"A nearby town," Rhia replied. "Please, anyone aiding us would be of great service...can you fight in a group to defend each other?" If he did...well, Rhia didn't see anything wrong with letting him join for the whole of the journey.

...Defend...them? I was a little taken aback, but I quickly decided that it was the only plausible solution, if I were to join them. "Yes," I answered at length, "I am familiar with offensive and defensive magic, can use a sword, and possess some other...er...talents that may prove useful to you, if you will have me." At the word 'talents,' my finger instantly shot to the inside of my jacket and lovingly fondled my Magitech Cannon.

*goes berserk* KILL SWORDSMAGE! MUST KILL SWORDSMAGE!

Anyway, timeskip!

Rhia

"So this is an ordinary town," Rhia muttered, to no one but herself. "The people live in such poor conditions, compared to us, Keldia...and the arena is smaller than the coliseum in the capital, isn't it?" She looked around, repulsed, yet strangely drawn into this small little place.

As soon as we came upon the town, I decided that I needed to take my leave of them, at least temporarily. I prefer my privacy, no matter how desperate I am for company--and I wasn't particularly desperate in this case, anyway. Besides, if I had to spend another second with that crew, my head would explode. Not to mention I really hated speaking formally.

"Sayonara," I whispered as I ducked around a street corner towards an alleyway.

"It is smaller then the capital. But many people like small towns. Theres less trouble." She said, "I'm going to the arena to watch the fights, care to join me?"

Rhia nodded.

An Hour Later

Rhia was rooted to her seat, horrified. "Keldia, this is so...so...barbaric...all this fighting, and even killing! Why do people enjoy it so? Why do people participate it, even, when they're putting their lives onto the line!"

"Well, some need the money. Others do it for the satisfaction of killing." She then pointed to the red haired man with the angry look in his eyes, "Some do it for stress relief."

That red haired man made her nervous, there was something sinister to his eyes, and he seemed quite skilled. He fought with his hands and feet, and came out on top.

Ah, never mind, then. I'll just have Gaern walk off for a moment for two new competitors.

Deyus

He entered the arena as relaxed as possible, keeping all his weapons hidden as much as possible, only allowing the opponent to see his body and armor, as well as a hint of the two weapons behind his back. Deyus's eyes calmly surveyed the opponent. Skimming a book, dressed in a cloak, a mage...not too hard.

When the battle began, the mage started with a simple, basic way of fighting. Throw fireballs. This would be simple. As Deyus dodged the fireballs, he revealed his two guns. Aiming them at the mage, he began firing bullets of magical energy.

Rhia

She watched with true interest as this man handled the fight tactically. But...all these gunshots. Guns relied on converting your own physical energy into magical energy to shoot. Why wasn't he getting tired? What power were his guns drawing from...?

Deyus

Unfortunately, the mage was good enough to dodge attacks at a distance, though unbalanced a bit. Good...as the mage stumbled, Deyus charged forward, guns still out, shooting, keeping the enemy as unsteady as possible. Now! Deyus placed his guns in the holsters behind his back, again, drawing out his next weapon.

The diamond-edged axe...apparently one of two of his family's heirlooms. The axe swung, but the mage ducked, sending him backwards with a burst of wind. Deyus stayed his ground, however, and continued the assault against the mage, uncomfortable in close-quarters.

In his first mess up, Deyus had swung too hard, leaving himself open as his diamond axe refused to come out of the ground. The mage seized his opportunity, taking time to charge a powerful lightning bolt. Deyus let go of his axe. The mage fired.

He drew out his final weapon, the massive longsword...as he swung vertically upwards, a pillar of stone sprang from the ground, jutting up. This sword, with limitless energy...it supplied his guns with the energy they needed, and could even control the elements.

Now the mage was too tired to go in. Deyus watched in satisfaction as the opponent yielded.

I'll have to leave here, if no information comes my way, Deyus thought as he pulled the axe out of the ground and exited the arena.

Gaern

He watched the man with the guns fight. He laughed, he had a pretty easy match. So now it was time for his next match.

The man who came out of the other side of the arena was coated in armor. Heavy plate by the look of it.

"Weak at the joints." Gaern muttered as he stepped out. When the match began Gaern darted right at his oppenent, he rolled under his slash, and latched his fingers into the mans arm plate. He twisted his hands and pulled, it came free with a hurry. He then went for the body chest plate. With the plate gone, Gaern really got to work. He drove his hands at the mans chest, sending him flying back. Then he drove his hands into the mans chest, and flung him away.

By the time his oppenent hit the wall, Gaern walked away and awaited his next match.

"Amazing," Rhia remarked, "how some like that man with the guns fight with the skill of a well-trained general, yet others are wild, savage, like...him." She pointed to the man who fought without any weapon but his fists.

Deyus

Something in the crowd...what was it? Something strange? Deyus viewed the crowd once again. Of course! That woman with the blond hair...

Now he would just need to find the worm in the group and work together.

"Unacceptable. 50 gold pieces at the very least. You won't find craftsmanship like this in this little hole of a town, I can guarantee you that. Unless you're intimate friends with Master Deksin."

He raised an eyebrow at the nervous little man. Orin was a good sort, but he needed a great deal of convincing before he would cough up anything close to a good price. Inwardly, though, Falo was grinning - Orin had practically lifted off the ground at the name 'Deksin'. As they said, the cat was in the bag.

"D-Deksin?" The man wasn't very good at keeping his voice steady. "Prove it!"

"You and I both know his seal cannot be forged." Turning the marble object upside-down, Falo showed off the goods. "I'm growing tired of this. 50 gold pieces. Take it or leave it."

"Yes, yes!" Orin greedily snatched all the beautifully crafted pieces of the crate, throwing them (carefully) into a sack before finally coughing up the money. "I liked you a lot better when you didn't talk, Mr. Falo. When did you go into this business for yourself?" The question wasn't meant to be answered, however, as the twitchy little guy was already scurrying back into the street.

Wow. I'm a good bluffer . . .

Maybe he was getting carried away, and he had overreacted. To be sure, Deyus planted himself in a seat above the two women, waiting and listening. I'm getting better with that unique technique with the sword...I still prefer the axe and guns, but at least I'm making progress...

"Hello, princess."

"Is there no one that would wish to fight our strong, and yet young miss here?" The announcer said. Cheers were heard all over the arena, as Kaeris stepped out again.

"Aw come on, boys. You have to at least try." She said, coaxingly. "I've already beaten half of you, without trying. Too hard. At least let me have some sort of fun in this arena, or I might just clean you all out of your money!"

Kaeris let out a laugh, and punched her open palm. At this rate, everyone could get a horse if they wanted to.

"Seems like an interesting fight," Deyus commented as casual as he could, to the Princess Rhia and her two assistants. One was probably her bodyguard, Keldia, who it was said had a similar style of swordplay to him. The other...maybe he was the worm? "Do you know either of them?"

"And fight!" The announcer said, running back behind a pillar to hide. His job was over, it was now time for the fighters to do theirs.

Kaeris smirked, and blew a kiss at the man, then quickly dashed in. She wasn't impossible to see; but she was a blur. At least, to the normal human's eye.

She could feel the man trace her movements; but she was moving too quickly to stop. Taking a deep breath to constrict her muscles and minimize pain, she gave a hard roundhouse kick for the man's chest once she'd closed the gap.

He smirked, she had taken him as a human. His hands flew out and block the laguz's flying kick. The force of the blow made him reel back slightly. But as he reeled back, he thrust his fist forward, going for her stomach.

Keldia

Roundhouse kicks aren't flying kicks. You pivot on one foot and bring the other around forcefully. >_>.

Kaeris

Balanced on one foot, her other one caught in the man's blocked, her body was left wide open.

Of course, if he choosed to hit the most open spot, she could have yelled 'Pervert' or something. But he went for the stomach.

She attempted to catch his hands with both of hers; but that took a lot of effort. She felt her arms absorb the shock. Painfully.

She willed the pain away, and instead curled her pivot foot and quickly hopped up, and rolled along her leg, throwing the man with her other leg pushing him. Crude, and not taught in any way; but how would he manage to escape from this one?

WHAT?! He practically fell off his chair. What was she thinking, inviting random strangers to join their group? At least in the church, they could get rid of the ones who might betray them by tying them up somewhere. Here in town . . . But there was no way to convey his concerns without voicing them aloud so he settled for glaring angrily instead.

Maybe he wasn't as good as she thought. But up close, he was something else....

Kaeris reacted quickly, bringing her head back and hopping backwards. He still hit; but all he did was send her flying. Her movements had minimized all pain; but it still hurt. Not only that, she was sent careening across the arena.

She was able to right herself in mid air; and placed her feet and hands behind her. When she came in contact with a pillar, she found it excruciatingly hard to push off. In fact, she didn't. Her legs and arms absorbed the impact of her speed, and she fell gracefully to the ground, landing on two feet and assuming a defensive position.

Then, the pillar behind her cracked and imploded. Kaeris turned around, to see pieces of rubble fall on her.

"He's... he's this strong? How? How can he be... no... I..." She thought, as her body froze and the pieces came deadly close.

There's your opening! A voice in him said. He rushed forward to put an end to it. But when he got close enough to her, and attacked, his hands went off course...They missed her compltely. Damnit! Whats wrong! There would be only one way to save himself from this, but he would blow his cover. And he couldn't afford that.

Gaern's rush had brought her back to her senses; but seeing him this close to the rubble told her that he'd missed. On purpose.
