"If you kept up with the times, Kaeris, you'd realize that we're heading towards Haushalt, not Eilfein. Just in Eilfein's direction." Rhia rolled her eyes. Not only was this woman a filthy laguz, she proved their stupidity.

(They're getting along quite nicely.)

Shu

He had been listening intently now, following the somewhat loud sounds of the brigade now, except SHu was above ground.

A collapse, not a good sign for them, but Shu knew of the tunnels from here, he just needed to get high enough to see all the possible exits.

Scaling a building without a rope is an odd experience. Shu rather enjoyed it, actually, it was like a game of finding things to keep propelling yourself up while never breaking your momentum.

Shu could only get three stories up, these buildings on the outskirts were nowhere near as tall as the central ones, but it was enough, he saw a small group, bigger than expected, but small. The princess was right there with them, fools, she looked so out of place with them, they'd never make it out like that, there were rebel soldiers patrolling for her at that very moment.

Shu sighed and lept onto a two story building in her direction, then slid down the side of the building and ran towards her.

He'd have to help her out.

She shook her head, there was nothing to be done about Rhia's hatred of the laguz. She just hoped it wouldn't get her killed.

???

He was right behind the soldiers now. His eyes flashed a bright red as his wings were revealed. Dragon wings, and bat wings. A soldier turned around at the wrong time, and was sweapt up along with another one. He then dashed back down the tunnel, the soldiers screams fading as there tongues were ripped from their mouths.

"Listen, you little wench. Don't talk to me like I'm some servant who is paid to not say anything back to you, alright? I said around the area. Which means, houses scattered not only within it, but also in Haushalt, and not just Eilfein. They make a little trail if followed properly, leading one through Haushalt to their destination. Now, unfortunately, a few of those have been demolished through natural disasters, or through people being chased like we are. I'm just trying to remember which ones in Haushalt are still intact."

"Just because you're from the palace, and a princess, doesn't mean I automatically respect you. Remember that respect is earned, and not bought through wealth or status."

Rhia glared at Kaeris, standing right where she was. The atmosphere grew tense as the two women stared at each other with hard gazes. Eventually, Rhia turned aside, muttering, "We're still far from Haushalt. Is there anywhere, well, very close?"

"Xenzin at first, wasn't happy with the traveler's huts being built near their regions. But then they saw that merchants used them to rest and it made for faster, somewhat safer travel with deliveries." Kaeris added. "Judging from the direction in which we ran, and where I know the huts to be, we should keep heading along this road. You'll be able to see the hut in the distance on your left amidst some trees, and a small dirt path. But we're in the soldier's vision too, so we can't just duck out of sight or else they'll follow us."

((This is awkward. I'll be back in a hour, maybe more.))

Tarnan pondered how they'd been attacked in the tunnel when they were already outside, but decided to pay it no mind. "Alright! Five men east, five men west, I'll take the street dead ahead! Let's go!"

((For the sake of the plot, l;et's just say they wnet down the center street. <<_))

He was close now, too close not to be noticed by Keldia. "Princess!" Shu shouted out, in a voice of pure despair. "Princess! I bring trerrible news about your father! He has been slain by those vile rebels!" Shu caught up while saying this. He'd have to work out more often, he was getting a little tired.

"And just who the hell is this? The more people we take on, the slower we'll move. Not that we're fast as it is..."

"R-right, your father has fallen, and his last wish was for me to escort you safely to Haushalt. It's the least I can do for the man I failed to protect." Shu took on a somber look. Then after what he felt an appropriate time, resumed. "So, westward? I assume we'll be going with the huts, then."

"I'm afraid so." Shu looked as somber as he could. "But look, we can't stop much longer, we really must hurry, I'll scout ahead for now, Keldia, if you'd join me, I'd appreciate the protection, You there, little boy, keep an eye out towards the rear."

Shu did like exerting his power, as the king's former jester, Shu also held a fairly high rank in the royal court, it sort of carried over, he hoped.

~Falo~

He cast the court jester an icy glare. "I'm 23 years old. Just because -- " Shaking his head, he broke off with a mutter. "Forget it. Jester, if you would keep a hand on the princess's leg . . . " Unbuttoning his vest, Falo flipped it open to reveal that, as the resident tech geek, he was indeed wearing a tool belt stuffed with all sorts of things. Towards the side were three vials of unpleasant looking liquids - One marked Float, the second marked Ghost, and the third with no sort of identifying label at all.

"Sorry, princess." Uncorking the third vial, he plugged his nose before wafting the fumes towards Rhia's nose. "If this doesn't wake her up, nothing will."

"You won't be going anywhere." Tarnan said, walking calmly down the street. "As much as I don't like to do this, my job is to follow orders, and now's no time to start disobeying. You'll surrender now, or I'll be forced to hurt you...well, except for the princess. I'm to capture her alive." For emphasis, Tarnan drew his sword and pointed it at his foes. If Lea is merciful, the princess won't fight...

~Falo~

"You know, you're practically required to say that. But we both know the moment you actually get Rhia, the rest of us will be carted off to the dungeon and executed whenever the new 'rulers' of Xenzin feel up to it."

Falo smiled brightly as he finally found what he was looking for in his sack of tricks. Pulling out what appeared to be a small discus, he held it at the ready.

"Yeah. The quicker you guys decide to put down your weapons, the farther away the soldiers who don't really care about your survival are. If you surrender the princess now, you walk away and no one gets hurt. You fight, and my soldiers get here, and they're trained to fetch reinforcments. If you think you're ready to kill this city's entire army, let's dance." Damnit, can you make this any harder? I don't want to have to hurt these people!

"Oh, no!" His face paled as he shook his head. "Why would I want to kill you? You're just pawns doing your job . . . No, it'd really be much better for me to use a smoke bomb, or knock-out gas, or spray chloroform, or bind you to the ground, or something more along those lines, you know? Speaking of which." The third vial was still held in his other hand. "If you don't want to wake up in 2 hours feeling like you've gone on an acid trip, I suggest you back off."

OoC: Nuts to everyone!

Shu

Well, as interesting as this conversation was, Shu had a better idea. He fiddled through his pouch inconspicously, then pulled out the grey ball. He dropped it, and pressed down on it.

That smoke smelled terrible. Oh well, it was all over in seconds, SHu picked the ball back up and stuffed it back in his pouch, took the mental note to refill it later, grabbed the princess, and began to run.

He was a great sprinter, a really fast guy. Too bad he wasn't exactly a weight-lifter, she was weighing him down something fierce, but he was still faster than most people, even with her on his back, he figured Keldia, and maybe the others would catch up when he was a safe distance away, better yet, maybe they'd sacrifice themselves to buy him some time...nah, he didn't want them to die, just out of his way, would be nice.

He kept going, even though he was getting a bit tired. He figured he could hoof it another 3 or 4 klicks before he really ad to stop, and soldier's burdened with Heavy weapons and armor would never catch him.

Shu took a glance back, noone following, just a huge cloud of smoke.

He would get the princess safely to Haushalt, nothing or noone would stop him.

"And there it is." Realizing that the smoke had probably confused his enemies as much as it had confused him, Tarnan charged right into the smoke. The weight of his armor wasn't exactly making it easy, but it wouldn't be the first time he'd had to run. Besides, he could probably outrun a princess any day. Choking on the smoke, Tarnan pushed as hard as he could, wondering when the other side would come.

(zomgosh I creates another char!)

-Jack-

Walking briskly through the twisted roads of the city the man watched night stretching out, spread his familiar black velvet cloak, sprinkled with holes that shone through the otherwise dark sky. (It is night by now right?)

Holes to heaven, his father had called them, thought Jack Sharp with a sad smile. Now all that was left of the old man was his name, and what a fine name it was. The name of Sharp commanded a trading empire with outposts across the continent. And a vast fortune to go with it.

And Jack, as his heir, meant to make it flourish even further. Even in the midst of his country's civil war, business was business.

Tomorrow's shipment should be headed to warehouse 3 in the morning.

Which is why Jack was visiting it tonight. Making sure there was enough room in the dusky old place to house the huge array of weapon's he planned to sell to the highest bidder in the city. Be that loyalists to the King or the rebellion.

Business was business.

Rounding the streetcorner Jack caught sight of his father's, no, his warehouse, smoke pouring in copious heaps from the windows and he stopped dead in his tracks.

A second later he was running flat out towards it, his footfalls echoing down the street.

((Would Jack Sharp be Falo's boss, then, since I sorta said the warehouse was the base of operations for a smuggling gang? >_> ))

~Falo~

"Hmm. Good idea." Picking up his knapsack, Falo ran for it as well, being fairly sharp of eye and fleet of foot. The fact that he couldn't see a thing wasn't much of a problem -- He had turned around to face the soldiers, and since this was mostly a one-way street, all he needed to do was turn back around and run the opposite driection.

"Ghuh...huh...whoa." Stumbling out of the smoke cloud, Tarnan gasped for air and looked for the princess. There she was, on the ground next to the man who had set off the smoke. Tarnan needed to run now, but that really wasn't an option; he'd definately need a few seconds to get the smoke out of his lungs, and those seconds would make all the difference. He walked forewards, moving as fast as he could and maintaining his breathing as best he could.

No. Jack's father owned the warehouse but hasn't used it in years. He may not even remember it. Jack knows of the place because he's been using it to smuggle things in over the years as well. *spoilers for Jack's character* he's actaully a pirate. Who up and turned legit when his father died and he landed the whole empire, much to his surprise since they hadn't spoken in years. As a fellow smuggler and user of the warehouse, he may know Falo. You decide.

-Jack-

He watched the soldiers forcing their way through the main entrance. Instinct, born from a lifetime of shady experience gave him a dislike for soldiers. Quietly skirting the building he made for the back he looked for a way in that wasn't swarming with men at arms. There wasn't one.

He crept up behind one of the mounted men, knocking him from his horse.

"Thank you my friend" he whispered as the unconscience man slid to the ground with a dull thud.

A moment later he was galloping through the night towards the only entrance that might still be unblocked. The smugglers entrance outside of town.

OOC: does that work for everyone?

"Jester's tricks." She muttered, standing outside the cloud. She'd seen the movement from behind her when Shu had moved, and quickly evaded the smoke.

Rhia was asleep...the smell could've waken her up, but she knew of a way to access a deep-sleep state where she could stay in, thinking for hours. My father is gone...my mother is missing...what am I to do? I want to stay here, not wake up...

...it's feeling so cold, now. It's freezing. What am I to do? Things are out of my control, which is never good for the monarchy...I'm compromised. Forced to go to Haushalt, the ideal land the rebels seek to copy.

Maybe I should just go to Haushalt. Shu's with me, and so is Keldia. I can trust them. They'll keep me safe there, and I'll find a way to raise the rebels eventually...

They'll go to hell for this, the rebels. I'll make sure of it.

Refreshened, Rhia awoke. "Shu, what's going on?"

"Well...I ran a couple click with you on my back, then kinda collapsed, your highnes." Shut took a second to tink, then continued. "You should make your way to that hut, down the road there. The leader of the group pursuing us claimed to have access to numbers that far surpassed your cheerful little group, what's more, he seems to be running this way, along with that sub-human, so I'll stay back and defend you, while you stay out of harms way."

Shu got up, slowly, picking out a good throwing knife...No, he'd probably never get it back. He started rummaging through his pouch, and pulled out two pink balls. These would probably work. He turned to the princess. "Better get going, I'll see you in a few minutes."
