"Mmm-hmm. Princess of Xen -- " He suddenly stopped walking, blinked for several seconds, and swung the glowing orb around rapidly to light up Rhia's face. "Say that again."

Maybe this was a mistake, Rhia thought. But it's too late... "I'm Rhia."

" . . . " His face betrayed no visible reaction, but the orb in his hand suddenly came to life, flaring violently with golds and crimsons. The entire passageway was lit for half a second before the orb shattered, the pieces flying in every direction. Thankfully, the manufacturers had evidently had a failsafe as the glass shards immediately turned to smoke upon impact with anything solid.

"Well. I guess the Veritas Orb believes you're telling the truth." Falo calmly dusted his hands off. "In that case . . . "

I see . . . I could turn them in. Maybe get a reward out of this. But . . . He paused, carefully scrutinizing Rhia's anxious countenance. Dammit. Fael always said I had a weakness for pretty girls . . .

"In that case, my lady . . . I would suggest you and your retainers flee to Haushalt."

"Haushalt?" Rhia stared at Falo, as if he had a squid covering his face. "Haushalt?! Are you mad? These rebels that have taken over Xenzin are faithful followers of not Lea but of science and technology! They oppose the true, holy ways! And, they were inspired by Haushalt, the nation of technology! You must be insane to suggest we go to these barbaric lands!"

"Haushalt also happens to be the most neutral country in Avilas. If I recall correctly, your majesty, your family was not very keen on forming alliances. If I recall correctly again, Haushalt also happens to be the closest neighbor of Xenzin. Onduorn is embroiled in its genocidal wars once again, Eilfein's politics are unstable, and Vrenlac is too busy playing with its armies."

Falo evidently did not have a very positive opinion of any single country in all of Avilas. "And whether or not the people worship Lea isn't much of a concern if you're executed, Princess Rhia."

Haushalt's the only neighbor for every country, now...

Rhia

"I am the princess of Xenzin! It would be treason if I left it for Haushalt," Rhia feebly argued.

"That's odd, when the Royal Princess is in danger of being executed by her former subjects, don't you think?" Falo sighed as he gestured towards an inclined slope. "Up. Whether you like it or not, Princess, that's a title passed around as easily as our sacks of goodies. You have no obligation to the people who have rejected you. Right now, your main goal is to survive long enough to build up your strength. Perhaps you may talk of retaking your country then."

Almost subconsciously, it seemed, Falo had taken on a much more formal way of speaking the moment he had discovered the true identity of the women.

"And who are you to give orders to me?" Rhia asked the man, growing indignant. A mere peasant, outsmarting her! To think such a thing was possible! She had half the mind to let a beam of light spring from her hand.

"You're not a princess anymore. If you're going to hide, you can't stand out." He quietly advised her, feeling a bit sorry as he did so. It really was none of his business and he ought to have turned around and left the moment she had revealed herself. But he just couldn't quite shake the feeling that he ought to help in some way.

"Yes. But I'm only mediocre with a sword. I guess you could call me . . . An inventor. I fiddle with existing technology and magic and steel to create what I need. Technology and Lea really aren't that incompatible, you know. The Veritas Orb I used earlier was something I came up with." They had reached the end of the passageway now, and as Falo had promised, the very outskirts of the city could be seen through the cleverly disguised exit/entrance.

He would be useful, Rhia thought. "Falo, I give you the honor of serving and protect me, Rhia, Princess of Xenzin." She offered her hand, so he could kneel and lay a kiss upon it, like knights always should.

"Umm . . . Thank you, my lady." Didn't I just advise her not to stand out? Ah, well . . . If it makes her happy. Not having ever been around royal folk, however, Falo merely stared blankly at her outstretched hand for several seconds. There was a distinctly awkward pause as the gears slowly clicked together, and once they did, he let out a very unsubtle, "Oh!" before bending over too quickly and losing his balance.

So he ended up lying face-first in the ground, having missed her hand entirely. . . . I was doing so well with the suave cityman image, too. "Umm . .. " Say something clever. "Well, Princess. You're so attractive that I'm even bowing down in your awesome presence." Dear Lea. That sounded like some sort of terrible pick-up line.

"Shu, find Rhia, protect her." King whatshisface said before retreating out his secret tunnel.Shu was to fight off whatever unit came by here then go find the princess and help her escape. He knew what he had to do. He heard fighting outside, but it was over quickly.

A large man walked in, brandishing a huge axe. He looked angry. "There were more guards than you said there would be!"

"Relax, the gaurd had been doubled tonight because you rioted in the street before you attacked, that was not my doing." Shu took a look at the man's second in command, a little whisp of a man, this was a pitiful unit, Shu probably could take them all, but that wasn't the smart path. "I believe I've done my job, and...for a little extra, I'll deliver you the king.

The large man's eyes lit up. He took a satchel of money, obviously vcounted out in advance, tossed it to Shu, then pulled out another. "Tell me where he is."

"Pull the third stone behind the throne, and follow the passageway." Shu eyed the little whisp up some more, he was holding a tome, a wind tome, by the looks of it. Bah, not of any value. He caught the money as it was tossed to him, it was a little heavier than the first, good.

He left as the two men headed nto the passage, with a small group behind them and the rest guarding the halls. Shu walked out, all the men there knew him. He passed one with a killing edge, he chatted him up for a while, stupid bugger didn't even notice him switching it with the Iron sword he had been carrying. On his way out, he went to a few rooms on a planned out route, taking the most valuable and magical things he could find. He became pretty rich today, maybe he'd celebrate.

Shu

Ha! What a haul! Shu had about as much stuff as he could carry. He made his way quickly to his favourite pawn shop. and left with enough platinum to last him a good while, at least, if he wanted to live like a modest man.

But Shu was no modest man. He still had business to attend to. He held onto several relics and antiques that he knew hel magical powers, though he wasn't quite sure what most of them did.

Now, he had a runaway princess to find.

"If I may have a word in this," A voice said, out of nowhere. "I'd say your best bet is to go west. Towards Eilfein, mind you, veer a little south." The voice said.

The cloaked figure stepped out from behind Falo, and waved a hand, mockingly, and performed a sarcastic curtsy.

"However, princess, you'd better make a choice soon. I do believe the soldiers have found the warehouse and the underground pathways by now. It's only a matter of time until they get to you."

Shu

No good, he couldn't find her, and that was saying something for her bodygaurds. Shu knew this town like the back of his hand, better, maybe. He stalked the darkest alleyways and the like, but he couldn't find her.

Well, he'd better hire a scout or two...he supposed. Maybe he could find some cheap ones. He went off to the old factory district, most of these were closed up after the rebellion, a few were claimed by thieving guilds and other less than reputable groups. Shu had been a member of one or two at one point.

Well, he'd better get to work, Keldia would want Rhia out of the city as quick as possible. He was just heading into one of the larger warehouses when it hit him.

The smartest way out was the tunnels, which was bad for Shu, as they led everywhere. Well, he wouldn't need to pay a scout, at least.

He just needed to figure out which direction they were headed.

Tarnan did not want to do this. As a commander for hire, his place was to fight and give orders, not to hunt down a defensless little girl. "This probably sells something about my greed..." he muttered, before turning to the small squad he was leading through this little tunnel. "Alright! She was seen going through this warehouse, and since they were kind enough to leave the door open, they must have been in a hurry. We're close! Now, let's catch that princess!" The soldiers gave a shout that made Tarnan cringe. Lea, they probably heard that on the other side of the tunnel and farther... "Come! And be a little quieter!"
Now's my chances!

"Quiet, you fool. Gem, metal, whatever; just shut up will you?" She thought back. Before the sword could retort with whatever it was going to say, She put a hand up.

"They're getting close. Hordes of them at the warehouse. You can't hear it but... They're coming. Make a choice, damnit, or I'll pick you up and carry you myself to Eilfein!"

The hooded figure greatly intrigued the young man for several reasons. The most important being that the lunatic fringe he had created for the sole purpose of disguising the exit didn't seem to have affected the woman's ability to detect the passageways at all.

"I have no problems with east."

For them to meet up with mr. No-Possessive-Nouns, west is the best choice

Shu

Huh? A shout, by a small group of men. Shu had better check it out, carefully.

Chances were they were jsut some sellswords, but they might have an idea where the princess was, Shu tucked his fighting knife under his vest, and secured his gold, so it wouldn't shake around too much.

Perhaps this could be beneficial to him.

"East?" Rhia repeated. "Right into the border of Onduorn, where a civil war is going on involving the filth of laguz? Are you mad? We shall go west, towards Eilfein! Now, you all are given the permission to guard me in whatever ways you find necessary that do not bring harm onto myself! And Keldia, please, stay besides me at all times." "What a naive, poor girl." Kaeris muttered to herself as the group fled from where she stood. She brought her fist down to the ground with a mighty grunt, but she didn't break through the ground. Instead she cracked the ground and soon small patches of the dirt broke and either started to sink slowly, or became unstable to stand on.

"Shameful that I have to use one of his techniques, as well." Kaeris muttered, as she ran to catch up with the group.

He had followed a group of armed men into a tunnel, he didn't know who they were hunting, but he didn't really care. They may believe themselves hunters, but it was he who was hunting them. He drew his blade, and dashed along the tunnel. He'd take them in the rear before they knew he was among them, then he'd take two or three, then retreat.
