"Why do you wish to know?" Inerus asked. "Why are you suddenly so curious about the land I came from? No one has been, yet...I would like to tell you. I wish to know why, though."

She's not the only one interested, the White Seraph thought, not so far, sitting on a tree.

She blushed heavily before stammering on. "I-I'm sorry . . . I'm being awfully selfish, waking you up and all. But . . . You're the only person I've ever met who's from somewhere else. And maybe . . . You'll be able to help me figure out where I came from, too . . . " The witch suddenly stared Inerus straight in the eyes. "But really -- I really want to hear about your world for the sake of hearing about it! Not just for my own selfish reasons . . . "

Inerus nodded. "Do you wish for tales about the land I come from...or do you wish to know about the life I live? But perhaps they are the same..." He muttered something, barely audible. "The Two that are One are One but the One That is Two is not Two..."

"Well, how about a general overview of your world, and of how you lived? I know about its ideals, but I mean, is it exactly like Avilas? Fields and deserts, oceans and jungles? You have a democracy, but is it like the ancient times, when everybody gathered to discuss things?" Were there cities upon clouds and flying creatures of every sort. . . ? She neglected to add that part in, although it was really what she was looking for.

"We lived in a desert," Inerus answered. "That is all our land is. A desert. We do not mind, though, it was given to us to live in, and we make the best of it. We accept the desert, embrace it. Because in the desert, nothing is hidden, nothing is kept. Avilas has little desert...I miss the desert.

The way we run things...people do different jobs all the times. In times of true drout, everyone begins helping in the laboring, the difficult tasks. Then when things are easier...we go back to doing what we are best at. Some jobs are keeping track of the jobs available and making sure people are living well. That would be government, I guess. We have little laws, only morals we use to punish others.

It sounds unstable, when I say it...I do not know how to explain why it works. But we all cooperate, all help. No one goes against the system, which keeps it in check...we all like this system. Morals are the laws we use."

She pondered his words for several moments while kicking her legs in midair.
"I think I see. If everybody guides themself by their own moral rules, then you don't have need for a government that essentially does the same thing." Glancing upwards at the brilliant moon, she continued to voice her thoughts aloud. "Although . . . You're depending too much on the honesty of your people. A selfish man who corrupts others with temptation of wealth or other things . . . He could probably take over pretty easily if he had enough friends."

Toremi paused. "Inerus . . . Was there any magic where you came from? Puyo said your ability wasn't magic."

"Perhaps, but selfishness has never occurred. If it has, which it may have, it is often helped out of the child at an early age. In fact...I may known something that may interest or shock you. But first...magic. What do you call magic?"

"Magic is the drawing upon of outside forces in order to facilitate a use of energy that could otherwise not occur." She responded, giving him the textbook answer. "Spiritual magic draws upon the divine forces that flow through this world, descending from our deities, Teleth and Lea. Elemental magic draws upon the strength of nature and of ether. Kanji magic comes from the power inherent within the ancient runes, and Vall's necromancy comes from, well . . . the ruler of the underworld.

"Umm . . . What is it that you think may shock me?"

"I do not think we have that. See, we do not own things. Thus, we can not own this magic, Possess it, bend it to wills...the ability I use. It springs from the fact that I own nothing and am owned by nothing. The ability is just me connecting to the world and the world connecting with me. Nothing is barred, kept, from each other, and thus the ability springs from the connection. But..." Inerus thought for a moment. "If the ability was to be seized, Possessed, then it would be magic.

And what may shock you, all of you people in Avilas..." Inerus decided she deserved the truth. "I am part of a family, yes. But most people view it as ownership, a family...most people grow up in Children Centers, with no idea of who were the parents."

"That's terrible!" She clasped a hand over her mouth as she stared at Inerus, both horrified by the thought and embarrassed by what had slipped out without thinking. "Although . . . Wasn't much different from how I grew up. But still, a family is a wonderful thing! I suppose you could think the parents 'own' the children, but it doesn't work that way at all. The parents foster the children's growth and help them achieve their greatest potential; they don't drive them into slavery. Growing up without the loving care of a mother or the gentle guidance of a father . . . "

She lapsed off into thought before murmuring, "Then, I guess . . . your world isn't anything close to the place I remember."

"I agree," Inerus reassured her. "That's why the woman I was married to and myself decided to run a family...there was a lot of hostility towards us first, but...the son and daughter are great. There are plenty of good stories about the life I have lived, if you wish to hear...

What place you remember?"

" . . . It's a long story." She sighed, slightly disenheartened, before continuing on, keeping her voice as neutral as possible. "I won't bore you with details, but my parents both died when I was very young. I don't remember how old I even was at the time and I can't remember a thing that happened to me afterwards. But I have strange memories that must have occurred in that 5 year blank -- A city in the clouds, winged creatures, wonderful things like that."

"Then, when I was about thirteen years old, I woke up and found myself in a house inside of Haushalt. Puyo was hovering over me, and a woman who said she was my aunt began to sob, exclaiming something about a terrible fire and a coma. Apparently, I had been out like a light for the last few months. But I didn't believe it; I had to find that place again. So I taught myself to fly, and . . . " Smiling, she dropped off the rock and bobbed downwards in a sort of curtsey. "I found you guys!

"I'd love to hear your stories, but I think it's getting late. Well . . . early. There's a lot we have to do tomorrow and the others are getting really impatient over this. Thank you for humoring me, Mis -- I mean, Inerus. Maybe we'll talk again later."

"Be careful, Cadra! I'll help Vall spread the news." Hopping onto the hoe, Toremi gathered up the stack of papers she had been carefully lettering for the last few days. Each of them proclaimed: "EXECUTION: THE FUGITIVE FROM THE OUTSIDE", with a decent sketch of Inerus's face. Papers raining from the sky ought to attract enough attention . . .

He held back a smile. "Crude, and yet effective. Nice one, Toremi." He said, monotonely. He stood in the shadows; blending in perfectly with his enchantment, and called out.

"What? A foreigner? Trespassing? And now he's to be executed? The town square?" He yelled. People started to look around, and then especially after having caught and read a poster, murmurs began to spread.

Vall quickly moved onto the next shadow with people near it.

Cadra looked towards Levin. "My life depends on you..." Oh, shit. He doesn't like me. She gave a mock toast to Inerus before drinking the vial.

"Will this plan go alright?" Inerus asked the White Seraph.

Time for me to find a good vantage point. He thought as he moved to an area that gave him a wide view of the town square where the platform was. As good a place as any...

He and his followers mingled into the crowds around the village with ease. He gave explict orders not to begin the feast until he gave the signal. We will please the Wolf God tonight! He thought victoriously as he walked through the crowds.

Levin felt like he was betraying his country by doing this. However, if he remained silent, more people would die these unjust deaths.

Levin stepped into the palace, Cadra still unconscious on his right shoulder.

"Here he is," Levin said to Vincent, one of the highest ranking people in Eilfein.

"Excellent work, Levin. Take him to the dungeons and seal his magic."

"Sir, might I speak to you after I drop him off?" Levin asked. "I'll leave my two most trusted guards to watch over him." Levin was feeling very nervous right now. Vincent had that effect on people.

"I guess, Levin. However, why do you need to speak to me so soon?" Vincent asked.

"Something about Inerus is troubling me."

"Can't you tell me here?"

"No."

Vincent nodded. "I see. Very well. Take him to the dungeons, then meet me in the audience hall."

Levin nodded and started toward the dungeons. They were very close to the sewers, so it had a very noticeable odor inside it. Of course, you stopped noticing it after about an hour while on guard duty.

It was pretty dark down in the dungeons. Levin grabbed a torch off the wall and used it to light his way. He found an empty cell, opened it and left Cadra inside it.

"This might be the last time I see you. Give my regards to everyone," Levin said, even though he knew Cadra couldn't hear him.

Thwack. A rock hit Levin in the back of the head. It was about the size of an egg. Levin turned around to the opposite side of the dungeon and saw one of the many people locked up in it, holding another rock in his hand. He threw it at Levin's head again, though very weakly. Levin caught the rock in his left hand, and dropped it in his right.

"Good night," he said, throwing it back at the prisoner fairly hard. It hit him right in the forehead, and knocked him out. The prisoner must have been fairly fatigued.

"You two," Levin said to the two guards who always stood near him. "Stand watch here and wait for my return... if I return."

"Yes sir," they both said. Levin stepped past them both, and walked toward the audience chamber.
Farewell.

"Whoops." A sweatdrop gleamed on her face as several of the townspeople below called out and pointed upwards. "Looks like I've been spotted. Time to go, Puyo." Soaring back towards the outskirts of the town (and high enough so that no one could follow her), Toremi descended rapidly towards where the others were hiding. "All done. We should get a pretty good crowd."

Levin

Levin stepped into the audience chamber, where Vincent was waiting. Levin noticed that Vincent had his blade out. Actually, it didn't look like the blade Vincent usually had, but Levin payed it no mind.

"Sir... why had Eilfein gone down this path?" Levin asked.

"Are you questioning the way Eilfein is being run?" Vincent asked back.

"No sir. I just want to know. Executing these foreigners benefits Eilfein in no way. In fact, there's nothing wrong with letting foreigners into our country."

"Levin, can I see your sword?" Vincent asked.

"Sir?"

"Should I repeat myself?"

"No, sir," Levin replied. He drew the longsword from its sheath and handed it over to Vincent.

"As I was saying, Vincent, why are we executing people like Inerus?"

"This is a finely crafted blade, Levin. Where did you get it?" Vincent asked.

"I've had it my whole life. My father used it, and his father used it."

"All these years, and it hasn't been worn down at all. You must be taking great care of it, Levin."

"Um... thank you... sir."

Vincent handed Levin's blade back to him. Levin put it in its sheath, but noticed Vincent still hadn't put his own sword away.

"Sir, why do you have your blade out?" He asked.

"I plan to kill Inerus personally."

"You don't need your sword out now, do you?"

"No, I don't. I guess you're right," Vincent replied. He still didn't put his sword away, however.

"Vincent... Foreigners, before they are discovered take odd jobs that nobody else wants. Some have even joined the army. Why do we execute them?" Levin asked, once more.

WHAM! Before Levin even knew what had happened, he found himself laying on his back, looking straight up at the ceiling. His vision was blurry, and he was very dizzy.

"Y-you... punched me," Levin said, sitting up and looking at Vincent.

"Levin, I hereby strip you of your title as a knight and sentence you to be executed along with Inerus in one hour."

"What?! Sir, no!" Levin exclaimed.

"Take his weapons and throw him in the dungeon," Vincent commanded the two soldiers standing next to the entrance. Vincent had his sword pointed to Levin's neck as both the soldiers took his blade off his belt. They jabbed Levin in the back lightly with their spears and took him to the dungeons.

OOC: one hour layterz

Levin didn't know where everybody was hiding, nor did he care. He requested he be executed while wearing his armor. He didn't know why, but that's how he wanted it to end. Him and Cadra were going to be hanged in the town square. Cadra was being held up by two guards, while Levin's hands were tied together behind his back. He looked up at the gallows, as the executor tied the noose to the beam which supported it. Cadra was going to be the first one executed, then Levin would be executed right behind her. That is... if they were even going to be executed at all.

Vincent stood beside Levin, grinning at the large crowd in the town square.

"There's quite a few people here, Levin. They never knew they'd get two executions instead of one today," he said, with a hint of pleasure in his tone.
Farewell.

"Omen, you will need 3 arrows to shoot," Inerus remarked. "Levin...has made a sacrifice for me as well as Cadra, it seems...was this the right path?"

"It was a few hours ago," the White Seraph answered, watching. Inerus nodded, then continued to watch. "Do not try and interfere with the plan, Inerus...I have...a feeling things may work out. And if they do not, I will try to mend them."

"Umm . . . So the grouchy soldier fellow is a prisoner now, too? He's pretty lucky we made this plan to save Inerus, then. I'm going to get closer." Without waiting for permission, Toremi rocketed upwards to a rooftop so that she could watch more closely. And perhaps be in a better position to help Vall hold off the commander-person when Omen shot his arrows.

Vincent stepped up onto the gallows and commanded the two soldiers holding onto Cadra to bring her up as well.

The crowd started to cheer as they eagerly awaited Cadra's execution. Vincent drew his sword and turned to Cadra.

It looked like he wasn't lying. Vincent wanted to kill Inerus himself.

Levin struggled to free his bonds, but it was no use. Vincent and Levin caught each other's eyes for a split second. Vincent was still smiling. Levin hated it. He hated everything about Vincent. He hated how he was controlling Eilfein. He hated it all.

Vincent pointed his blade at Cadra's chest.

The arrow with the antidote fired out of his bow and hit Cadra directly in the thigh. Nearly in the same motion he fired another to cut Levin's rope free. He took aim for Cadra's and was about to fire when he heard "FOR THE WOLF GOD!" And dozens, of howls broke out around in the crowd. It suprised him enough that his arrow missed Cadra's rope. Perfect...!

Levin quickly spun around and swung his hands toward Vincent's blade. Vincent was looking around in surprise, while the townsfolk started to panic. He didn't notice Levin was free from the noose. He noticed Levin cut his bonds with Vincent's own sword, however. Vincent didn't have enough time to react. Levin planted his foot right into Vincent's chest and kicked him right off the gallows into the crowd.

Two soldiers were charging at him, while many others were trying to calm the crowd down. Levin dodged both spear attacks. The soldiers going for him were very hesitant. They were one of the soldiers who went with him to capture Inerus. He disarmed one, and used the end without the blade to knock them both off the gallows. He cut Cadra's rope with the spear, and caught her before she tumbled to the ground. Waking up so suddenly must have dazed her.

He and his followers let out a loud howl again as they each shifted. The scent of fear was so ripe it overpowered the normal stink of the humans. "For the Wolf God! Slaughter them!" "I see others take delight in mass events like this, but not necessarily for the same reasons." Vall mused. He stepped out of his darkness, and when a werewolf came to him, he simply smiled.

The werewolf lunged at him, and Vall simply stepped to the side; when Garhara came out from the darkness and tackled the attacking werewolf down, and swiftly ripped its throat.

"My, my, Garhara. What a mess." Vall said. He simply watched the slaughter, indifferent to the outcome.

"Pyre Sphere!" The flaming ofuda struck the ground, releasing a massive burst of energy that propelled Toremi gently back up into the air. With a thud, she landed somewhat unhurt on a newly-decapitated human torso, sighing in slight relief as she checked herself all over for injuries. Finding none, she slowly attempted to stand up, as her feet still seemed to be attached properly.

"Thank Lea for recoi -- OW!"

"YOU'REEEE WEEEEELCOOOOME!" came Puyo's distant call following the hoe that struck her perfectly on top of her head.

"I'm going to kill that ca -- Whoa!" Slipping on the pool of blood, Toremi slid to the ground once more and finally noticed what she had landed on. " . . . AAAAAUUGGGH!" The werewolf whose meal had been interrupted finally recovered from its surprise enough to growl menacingly. "PYRE SPHERE!"

And for the second time in a week, Toremi found herself splattered with blood and guts that did not belong to a human.

"Depends. What do you want?" the White Seraph asked. "I can take us all away from here if you want." Inerus shook his head. "I see...you want the wolves gone. Stay here; I'm going." The White Seraph jumped from where they were Batman style, making a smooth landing in the midst of the fight. Calmly, the White Seraph walked around, surveying the battle for a few moments.

He had apparently decided on a spot he like, for he knelt down and clasped his hands. A brilliant orb of light rose from the ground, shining right above his hands. When his hands let go of each other, the sphere erupted, releasing shockwaves everywhere, only affecting the wolves.

He saw the shockwave coming a moment too soon. He rose his hand up and a shield of blood rose around him from the slaughter at his feet. Some of his other followers did so as well, some didn't, and were knocked to the ground singed. Those few who were rose up swiftly shaking off the burnt skin. I see him now... He thought, then surveyed the slaughter. Enough of the human filth had been culled. He let out another howl, and he and his followers departed.

What do you call Satan minus his past as an angel of the Lord?

Mm

Levin

Levin helped Cadra move through the crowd of people, toward the spot Omen fired his arrow from. Soldiers couldn't do anything, as they'd hurt the townsfolk. Levin tried blending in with the crowd, so Vincent (who was on the top of the gallows again) wouldn't be able to see him.
Farewell.

"And so, the White Seraph shows us a part of his power." Vall thought. He noticed Levin running through the crowds. He waved to him, and pushed through the chaos to meet him.
