Ok, so I was bored today and decided to do something a little silly. I put my name "Seth" into google and decided to see what I found. Man, people with my name are damned cool! >XD Seth, the third son of Adam and Eve was said to be the "foundation of the world". His line gave birth to such famous biblical figures as Noah, Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, David and Joseph, earthly father of Jesus Christ. It was also said that Adam (his father) gave him "secret teachings", which would later be known as the "Kabbalah", whatever that is >R) So, ya see? If it weren't for Seth, you wouldn't exist! >B-) BOW DOWN! |

No bowing. You're just named after a success >P But seriously, you didn't know? Seth is one of the oldest names, I believe. The "Kabbalah" is a rumor passed and flipped around Jewish sects. It isn't lined in the Bible, so there is reason to believe it didn't come from Adam through Seth. However, there is reason to believe it did, too. There's no direct contradiction in the Kabbalah, I believe. However, since it's backed up with Gnosticism, there's a -chance- that the Kabbalah is false, as Gnosticism is false. Only one being that has always existed is capable of creating a world. He is so capable, he invented "good" out of himself and invented its opposite "evil" for, as far as I know it, a test to fine tune his creation. |

I don't think that's what it means here... Lots of more current things take names from the past or make up names that are ironically similiar to what it once meant. I knew Seth was at least close to another name from Egyptian mythology, but my mythology in general is extremely rusty... I need to brush up on Greek, Roman and Egyptian. Never was big on much else >XD As for the son of Adam thing, that I never knew or heard of... And I've read at least the first half of the bible before >XD |

Yeah, but Set was a fairy tale of Egyptian mythology. He was some evil demon thing. Seth was the main successor to humanity with his start of the line of David.
First off, I know this just from my more scholarly friends. I've read the Bible before enough to know every single concept portrayed, but I don't know first hand which verses contain which data. Anyhow.... Genesis 4:25-26, Luke 3:23-38 are some references. The latter being the little chronicle list of generations. It's interesting to note that Noah was the tenth generation, assuming Adam was the first (and Seth the second). With the way the Bible put it, it would then have been around some 1600 years since the beginning of the world that it flooded. I wonder if there's any history between the mixed sediment found that suggested a huge flood and the sediment, if there is much, below it. |

Wow, out of 3 paragraphs, you quoted... 1 >XD Anyway, that's a good question. Science meets the Bible! Can science prove (or disprove) the flood of Noah. And if it can't disprove it, doesn't that make the flood true? Then again, I'm sure science will blame the melting period of the ice age or something. |

Here is something to think about, you can never disprove something, but you can prove something. |

You can disprove and prove something. However, not being able to prove something doesn't mean it's disproved. Same the other way around. Not being able to do one means you just haven't found the means necessary for your argument to work. Anyway, on the actual subject: I've heard on examinations of some parts of the sediment the soil and stuff are _completely_ mixed, and it was found in multiple areas. This would automatically prove that the world had a huge flood at some point. However, I could be mistaken about the discovery. I just remember reading somewhere >P |

Me and my friend usually have big religion debates, me being strongly atheist, her being Christian. Well she got mentioned something about them discovering Noah's Arc. Now I'm not sure if thats true or not, i never heard anything on that. Also a big flood at the end of the ice age would make sense, with all the ice and snow melting the water levels would rise. |

Actually, I don't see how the flood would be caused by the ice age, at least in the Biblical sense. It spoke about it as a judgment in part to the people who did evil. Thus, at least the way the Bible seems to explain it, the flood just happened on its own. I think that the scientists who have invented the Ice Age know that there was a huge flood, but they try to explain its arrival from the Ice Age. Basically, Ice Age is unproven at the moment and tries to explain the reason for the flood, though from the Bible's explanation it doesn't sound much like an Ice Age. Both sides agree there was a flood though. |

No one "invented" the Ice Age, Rin. You can't honestly say that unless you want to equally say the Christians "invented" the flood from the story of Noah's Ark. |

No, what I said is that the Ice Age is a theory for why there's a flood. Christians maintain that the flood happened as God's punishment, while Ice Age theorists say a gigantic flood happened due to the Ice Age. No one knows what happened for sure, just throwing in my two cents to add controversy >P |
