I will reveil it now. (As I get many questions on this) "What is so great about home school and what is so bad about home school?" All right, here we go guys-- Home School isen't ALL bad at all.^^ It can be quite fun at times, but other times it will get quite frustrating. It's real fun to have your parent teach you. You can get along with them better than another teacher. Other teachers are strict and don't give a crap about what other students think. Well, most of the time you get along better with you parents is because, well, they're your parents. o.O But that isen't the real reason. To start off with home school you MUST start out small. and you are required to have a certain cirriculum. Like this for example: "My daughter is in 5th grade so she must ave a 5th grade cirriculum." Now I know what you're wondering, "What is a cirriculum?" A curriculum is the source of education you have to have for you age group and grade. But if you're behind you have to start out small. At first, (Because I missed alot of school during the first 2 1/2 months), me and my mom had to go back to the baisics before we got higher and advanced. I know what you're thinking, "I'm not a baby!!" Well, no, you're not. But starting out small will get you to better things. If you start out advanced and push yourself to things that you can't even understand. All good things start out small. And also, the school boards. Listening to them is a big "No, no". If you look to the school boards for help, you WILL get nowhere in home-schooling. Because the teachers, faculty, etc. they HATE home-schooling. And they will do anything to pull the plug on your parent and force you to go back to Public Schools. But most of us do not WANT to go back to a public school. I know I don't. (Well, at least not my NEW public school that I went to for a while. There were people who cut themselves with knives....and I think they were prostitutes, too) Yes, you still do the same studies as you do in public school or any kind of school. But if your parent is more understandable, they will make it more fun for you than boring like it is in Public Schools. I will now answer questions that have been asked to me in real life and on other boards, websites. etc....... ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Is it true that you don't get any homework when you're home-schooled? Me: No, it's not true. You DO get homework. Only after school hours, though. Classes will probably start a little later than Public schools than when you're home schooled. If you get more sleep, I say, you're more likely to get better grades. (Dude, no wonder I didn't get good grades last year I had to wake up at like 7 a.m.!><) But don't stay up too late, or sleep in too late, or you'll be stuck craming all night! XP Is it true you get better grades when you're home-schooled? Me: In most ways, yes, you do. You don't have pushy teachers, you have your parents who's known you alot longer than your teachers have, and they understand you more. (Because well, you're their flesh & blood) So they try to make education alot more fun for you and make you happy to be educated, and not miserable like you might be in Public Schools. What's so bad about home school? Me: The bad part about home school is that your parents like to embarass you. -__- Especially if you make mistakes. They'll probably say something like, "Awwww, you poor baby, you messed up. I'll give you a hug and make you feel all better!" *is stiff* I cannot stand it when my mom does something like that!>< Augh, mom, I'm not a little kid anymore! I'm growing up!>< Calming down, calming down, calming down..... So yeah, I hope this helped for all you guys who were wondering. ^^" |

Well, I am not at the end of High School, but you do have to take tests. But parents are like that. -.-;;; Sometimes I wish my mother would treat me like an adult. Just because I'm short doesn't mean I'm a little kid. << Anyways, your parents send in the status and your grades to the school board to see how well you've done. If they think your grades are too low, they'll pull the plug on your parent. If you get high grades, you get to stay home-schooled. So the key is to get high grades during home-schooling. So I'm saying you get tests. (Your parents must make them extra hard. Especially during the end of the year) I hope that helped out too ^^ |

Oh right, sorry, it depends on how high your average test score is. If you did very poor, they'll see that your parent has not done a good job teaching you, and possibly pull the plug on you. But if your average test scoring is high they'll see your parent did a good job teaching you. But you MUST study and you MUST do your homework. As you get higher and higher in school homework and studying mean more than anything. Meh, back when I went to public school I rarely did my homework, especially in math. I would always tell my teachers, "I was so cought up in all my other homeowrk I didn't have time to do the homework you gave me." XD I'm such a slacker. XD |

Uh.... this isn't a dabate sort of thing....I don't think people here are getting the idea of The "Debate" thing. Debate/Serious talk is supposed to be a sub-forum under a Personal forum. But I don't think you guys get that. Debate belongs with the personals. This is not anything personal, not is it a debate, it is just something that needs to be said for people who were asking me these questions. So I do not know what JE (Or any other admin) was thinking when he made Debate/Serious talk a lone forum when really it belongs with the personals. Things such as "Teenage Pregnancy, Rape, Death" all belong with debate. -.-;; |

First off: Punk_Rocker, please don't insult other users or curse where it's not needed. It's annoying. And second, spam forum is for topics like: Favorite color, 3 Word Story, Whats your name. Ya know, spammy topics whose posts have no real value. Something like this does, as it encourages discussion and thought out posts. Also, to Hinata, since this forum doesn't really have a big serious side, there's this forum for people who like to be serious and have civilized discussions. We don't want to devote that much space to it, hence why there is a single forum called debate/ serious talk, instead of a suite of them. /End mod stuff How do your parents work if they're homeschooling you? O/\o |

Yeah, beat's pretty much right about the existence of this board. The site wasn't originally a debate board anyway, so it was just a small add on, you know? Anyway... yeah. I may not have seen this asked before, but do you still get winter breaks, summer vacations, that sort of thing at the same time as the other schools would? I'd expect you would, or else that would severly suck. -JE- |

OO I GOT A QUESTION! Do you get out earlier or later than other public schools? Bit I also got a comment, school isn't just about teaching math biology, etc. but it's also about teaching you people skills, you don't gain A LOT of friends outside of school. |

I'm homeschooled. Basically, Quality over quantity. All public school is drill and kill, you do a test, then forget. And yes, I start at the same time of public school, but get out earlier. My parents are strict on me, they don't say "Good job" all the time, I'm not overprotected. People always get a hint that we're overprotected, thats not true. Having breaks is up to the parents. I have them. My friends from Public school tell me about half days and such. |
