We have just begun to fight!
Interesting...does anybody know if a valid license is required if you are signing off on the financial reporting for the district...any district?

I know it is required in the Private Industry sector.

Also very interesting... The City of Livonia Financial Director - Mike Slater has his papers in order

Maybe that's why our district's finances are all screwed up! Don't they (at least the finance director) have to keep their licenses up to date?? Perhaps we should enroll Lisa in in one of our mega elementary schools to get a refresher course on basic math principles?!?! LPS could use the extra $8,000+ for another student!

Maybe that's why the Legacy Plan didn't add up. And NEVER will! They can't ADD! The plan was supposed to save $1,800,000 and ends up losing $2,000,000! that's almost $4,000,000 PER YEAR LOST!!!!!!! OH MY GOD!

Good Point 4_All_the_Children! Teachers have to keep their certifications updated, don't they. Or does the district let those slip through the cracks also? Maybe we should check on those too! Could our children possibly be being educated by uncertified teacher too?

Unfortunately, I don't think need to keep their certifications up. I check the Plymouth Canton's Finance directors info, and she doesn't have her ceritification in place either. Makes me wonder why they wouldn't need their certifications in place.

If they don't keep thier certificates up how do they keep up on the latest changes, practices, laws, etc. It's like a doctor, they have to keep on learning the new stuff. Doctors HAVE to take classes to keep up their license. I would think that CPA's are no different. I'm going to check on this.

I got to luv ya my kids mom! YOU GO GIRL! Keep up the good work.

You would think they would have to do this. I do know that administrators are suppose to have continuing education. Maybe you could find out if they have this in place.

It all makes sense now. Maybe they are not aware of the latest trends in education? Why else would they be using the 5/6 configuration on a district of our size? Somebody should tell them that 5/6 is not widely used in the state of Michigan. Maybe someone should show them some.......

RESEARCH!!!!

Maybe LPS is basing their decisions on the "Connected Math" concept. Does not matter if the answer is correct, just as long as they can keep blowing smoke by the BOE. Recent history shows that has not been much of a problem.

Good Job Lisa and Dr. LIEpa!!!

You don't need a CPA license to produce financial statements. A CPA license is for performing attestation services (audit) and preparation of taxes including representing clients in tax court(EA-enrolled agents can also do this). In fact their are other accounting certifications which are more suited for those who produce financial and other management reports like the CMA(certified Management accountant...not country music award..). I believe there is one that is specific to government accounting.

So, in that case, instead of letting thier certification expire, they simply didn't have the proper certification to begin with?

Yes, I know that by law they are not required to have the certification, but they are running one of the largest school districts in the state. Can't we expect excellence from our LPS leaders?

We expect it from our kids.

Does the finance director or liepa designate him/herself as a cpa? If they are they are wrong in doing so. They are not licensed because they are expired. Just another significant misrepresentation! As usual!

When will all the deceptions and lies STOP?

From the State of Michigan Website:

Certified Public Accountant

Required State License(s):

If accountants are represented as Certified Public Accountants, they should be licensed with the Department of Labor & Economic Growth, Board of Accountancy; (517) 241-9249.

Revised: 4/2005

Does anyone now what the difference between 'NULL AND VOID' and 'LAPSED' on the CPA website? One sounds worse than the other.
