Channel 2 news at 6:00 lead story:
Livonia Public SchooLs 'Cooper' bus stop was moved to Lathers (I didn't get the cross street) where 3 or 4 known convicted sex offenders live !!!!!!!
A parent, I think his name was "Polk", had about 4 pages of documents in his hand showing that the bus stop that was moved to this street had convicted sex offenders living on it. The parent was VERY upset (and rightfully so!) The news crew went to the Central Office (they were at the front of the building) with cameras. No school official was on the air but they said that a district spokesman (I think he said the Superintendent) said that the bus stop move was an ERROR and that they were correcting it.
Channel 2 didn't say, but maybe it will be on again at 11:00
FOR GOD'S SAKE WHAT MORE CAN HAPPEN AT THIS BUILDING !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! HOW MANY MORE SCREW-UPS ARE WE GOING TO TOLERATE ?
I GOOFED and failed to to mention that they were CONVICTED *****CHILD***** SEX OFFENDERS !!!
I saw the story twice now. The safer bus stop is at Lathers & Standish. The stop in front of the apartment with the CONVICTED sex offenders was at Warren & Lathers. The reporter said they tried to contact the Super, but a "spokesman"(Jay Young probably) said the situation was being taken care of....or whatever spin he gave. Has anyone else noticed that anytime there's something serious, LIEpa never goes on camera and usually has Jay Young do his dirty work.
I can't say that I ever remember seeing Liepa on camera.

Not to defend sex offenders or LPS, but use caution when looking up offenders. Many of them have been convicted of non-felony, non-contact offenses such as public urination or "mooning" someone. Others are guys (usually) who while still in high school themselves, got caught with a girl younger than 16 and the parents pressed charges. This could mean a senior in high school being with a sophomore. Is this something I would condone or encourage? No, but I don't think it necessarily makes the guy a sex offender either. My point is not all sex offenders are created equal. I am terrfied of the violent ones and the pedophiles, but having your name on the list does not necessarily put someone in that category. And for the record, no, I am not, nor anyone I know, on that list. Just when you see a name listed, don't freak out until you look at what the person was convicted of.

I appreciate the comments above.
When I lived on Lathers five years ago, LPS tried to make my 2nd grader's bus stop on Warren--two blocks west of Lathers--for their convenience.
I refused, stating young children should NEVER be standing on major streets in the dark, waiting for a school bus.
They remedied the situation immediately. The old transportation director was very helpful.
Wonder what is up w/that department now? LPS seems more concerned about bus scheduling than about safety.

Good point. I should have mentioned that when I posted the websites. I always look at the crime and mostly focus on the situations where the minor was under 13 and the offender was over 20. Once you get familiar with the site, you will see a trend, and more likely be able to distinguish between a "15 yo and 19yo dating relationship gone bad" and an actual sexual offense.
I hate that I need to keep an eye on these sites!

I thought the story siad that they were convicted "child sex offenders' . My definition of child would be age 17 and under. Not sure of the legal definition.

I wasn't referring the the article in particular, but reading the sex offender list in general.

I have just recently heard of some nighttime robberies, a possible (?) shooting & gang fighting that has gone on in the past few months in the apartments next to Johnson.
I want to know what is being done to keep the kids safe, inside, outside and procedures for those entering the building. I've walked in and no one has even been around. Anyone know? I will be asking those questions at conferences.
