These have been part of the board agendas for years, literally. More people are just seeing that they are taking place now, because they are actually watching, attending or reading board minutes. |

This is still somthing that should be considered as "unprecedented" ... 3 at one time. Speak to those who know, remember, were involved, elected, or were directly impacted by these events... They will tell you this is not normal. The PR from the district will tell you just the opposite Who do you choose to believe at this point...? Real people... Or those who have the most to lose/hide? |

I agree, it is good that more people are taking an active interest in things going on, but to say that these things (expulsions) did not take place before the LI is absolutely wrong. You can look back and see that there have been numerous expulsion hearings and recommendations for expulsions, since Columbine, when a harder stance was taken not just in LPS, but in all districts everywhere. |

You are exactly correct Grant 1...THREE expulsions at one time is unprecidented. Take it from one who does remember and was involved. Furthermore, expulsions should not be on a "consent" agenda. This is one more case of "sweeping things under the rug". I would like to point out that these students are NOT ALL secondary students as stated in the attachments to the motions. Only the CHS student is. Middle school students are ELEMENTARY students. MI is a compulsory education state. What arrangements are being made for these students education? When a true secondary student is expelled, they can be immediately enrolled in an adult ed or GED class...students under age 16 CAN NOT. Expulsions are permanent and can not be reversed, and should be reserved for only the most serious of offences (assault upon a teacher, selling/dealing drugs). For a 7th or 8th grader to commit such acts begs the question, "where was the intervention?" |

VI. BUSINESS MATTERS A. *Bills for Payment--November 21, 2006 Bills for Payment Action Sheet Bills for Payment Attachment B. Approval of Cooperative Agreement with Plymouth-Canton Community Schools Cooperative Agreement with Plymouth-Canton Action Cooperative Agreement with Plymouth-Canton Attach I would like to know why we are so obliging to Jay Youngs home town as to provide them the ability to utilize the LPS Career Tech Center? If this is one of such items that makes this district a "magnet" then why are we excluding LPS kids from using this wonderful assett, and then providing it to the friends of Jay Young? Friends and family always seem to come first over the community...such a shame. |

As far as I have known 7th and 8th has been considered secondary ed., in LPS. Even the eligiblity for transportation for elementary K-6 was 1 mile and 'secondary' 7-12 grade was 1 1/2 mile from school. Director of Elementary Education included the K-6 Director of Secondary Education included the 7-12 K-12 is divided much more equally for those admins. |

I think Scheel, Freeman, Whitehead, King and Markarian owe it to everyone to voice their thoughts on the 520 student loss. I still can't believe they did not address this during the last board meeting. Is it just me or all the thank you's getting out of control? They present awards and thank the person. They go off the air to thank them more. Then at the end of the meeting the repeat all the thank you's during the board members time to talk. |
