I just want to clarify that I am not promoting charter schools at all, but the community has to know there are other options out there for those who cannot afford private school.:) |

I think parents would want what is best for themselves and their kids. It is our job as their parents to provide the best learning environement for our kids; be it a charter school, private school, parochial school, home school or the local public school. Parents need to be aware of their choices and options available. |

In Holland, I believe the vast majority of parents who moved their kids to charter schools were strong supporters of the public school system prior to leaving. We were the ones who volunteered and participated in our kids' education. We believed that strong public schools are vital for a strong community -- and we still believe that -- but we had to act in the best interests of our children. Parents who were less involved and didn't care as much about their kids' education -- "that's the school's business" -- those are the parents who were more likely to just put their kids on the buses. Obviously there are still a lot of involved parents who stayed in the public school system here, but I believe the proportion is less than before. That's my opinion and I don't have any research to support it. |

Mr. Liepa's comment about people "stay" in the community after graduation--does that mean they don't get married and have kids? His remark about "housing" being down is revealing. Just watch--those closed school properties are going to have houses on them soon. Hmmmm. Then, we'll have to build new schools for all the new houses. Lots of construction coming down the pike is my guess. When is someone going to tell the DetNews that "declining enrollment" is a fallacy. Does anyone know who the pro-LI person is in the article? AK PS: I have no idea where Tom Bailey has been. Has anyone had a conversation w/him lately? |
