Im curious as to what traditions that many of the elementary schools had will be brought to the 5/6 schools. As we have seen the Halloween tradition of dress up, parades and fall festivals that many of the schools had, were not incorporated into the 5/6 schools. What traditions did your elementary school have that you feel should continue? I would think that some of the special things done at each elementary school would be, or should be used to bring a sense of comfort and continued tradition to the kids in these mega schools. I know the kids from Taylor had holiday concerts, The Talent Show, Jump Rope for Heart, Field Day, Science Day, 6th Grade Breakfast, and some I am sure Im forgetting. ( help me out here Taylor people) I don't want to see the year go by and our 5/6 schools ignore the wonderful special days our kids all looked forward to in their old elementary schools. Special days that the kids in the k-4 schools still experience. |

Don't forget, Muffins with Mom, Donuts with Dad, Fall Harvest, Safety's, and Reading buddies. I'm sure I'm forgeting some. It just makes me sad that we do not have our sense of community anymore. |

Traditions have no place in the Legacy experiment. |

Another page borrowed from the Holland playbook... we lost traditions from the closed schools such as Washington Elementary's International Night which died with the school. Even Holland's Tulip Festival was slightly affected as each elementary school had its own individual theme for the Children's Parade (Kinderparade). Some of these were eliminated or had to be merged. |

Once the "new" traditions are established @ the 5/6 schools, it will be very hard to get any of the "old" traditions back. |

6th grade camp was a HUGE tradition at Randolph. Even some of the Field trips were tradition such as Democracy on the Green at Greenfield Village for the 5th graders. That was a fantastic field trip (I learned a few new things on that trip!!!). I hate to be negative ( ), but I really don't think that they will be able to keep to any traditions this school year. I personally don't feel anyone is organized enough to do so. Principals, teachers, PTA and even parents are too scattered this year. Everyone is just trying to cope with the changes
