Please accept my humble apologies. I definitely did not mean to offend or belittle you. I originally read your post thinking collaboration was a job requirement and that you chose to do it during lunch rather than do it later in the day. I understand now that you’re implying that collaboration between teachers on lunch hour is an additional, optional sacrifice. If that's the case and it's on my children’s' behalf than believe me, I appreciate it. It does seem to support my suggestion that collaboration is suggested and encouraged but it's not necessarily mandated as regular part of the job. From my white-collar, salaried perspective it’s very common to work through lunch. It’s not part of an attempt to knock off early; it's required just to keep up. Everybody does it. |

True teaming, which includes common planning time within the school day as it's most important component, isn't practiced in LPS schools. I commend those techers that set aside their lunch time and after school time to accomplish this concept that is highly regarded in the educational research. Unfortunately, it continues to highlight the inconsistencies and inequalities within LPS. It isn't mandated or regualted from the central office. As a result, it is luck of the draw if you get one of those wonderfully collaborative teachers or unfortunate if you end up with one who doesn't see the value. The idea of true teaming or collaboration should be fully supported from the administration in the way of dedicated, mandatory common planning time. Now that is something that would truly be FOR KIDS SAKE. |
