"Liepa said he didn't know when the figures were due. "I don't know what the deadline is," Liepa said. "It is usually around Nov. 1. That could mean Nov. 3 or it could mean Nov. 5."

Funny how everyone else knew when they were due!
Isnt it his job to know! I wonder if my child could use that excuse when its time to turn in his homework!!!

This guy is a moron and needs to be fired, he has only hurt this district.

I wonder if he told the IRS that he didn't know April 15th was the deadline for his taxes :ph43r: "I thought they were due maybe the 16th or 18th" Absolutely ridiculous!

I'll bet he filed for both personal and corporate extensions too! :ph43r:

That is a good point that Liepa made -- they know who chose an option other than LPS by requests for transcripts (assuming that always occurs).

Actually, it still undercounts the effects of Legacy. My daughter for example would have started kindergarten at Grant, but now is in private school. She wouldn't be counted. Also, those who don't move to Livonia to avoid this mess would not be counted.

Sounds like a flawed methodology to me, especially when the guy designing it is an accountant.

Sigh... maybe we can mail order him some honesty. ;)

On Wednesday, Supt. Randy Liepa said he didn't have complete results of the district's "fourth Wednesday" attendance record, which was taken five weeks earlier. He estimated the student loss at over 400.

The loss will be at least 453. It may be more, but we may never know for sure.

453 x 8490 = $3,845,970. Almost 3.9 million dollars a year lost. 3.9 million dollars is just about the cost of what it takes to run 6 elementary schools.

I wonder how many kids we are really loosing.

If it was only 453, why not just say so?

Could it be closer to 600 than 400?

:(

Liepa is holding off the release of the numbers for as long as the state will allow. Remember, the absolute deadline is Nov. 15. If he stalls longer, LPS could be denied funding.
In the mean time he has tried several tactics to confuse people. Such as continuing to talk only in terms of the number of lost student they budgeted for. So many people saw that 160 number associated with student loss that it probably "stuck" with many as the real number. He also continues to talk in terms of %, never actual number. Percentages, especially 2%, seems a lot less shocking (until you do the math, but we know some won't) than a number of 400+. It is all pure manipulation.
How can people support this?

Don't forget any younger siblings of those who left for private schools -- those who will never attend LPS.

I suddenly have this visual of Liepa with his hands over his ears going "lalalalalalalalalalalalalala". ;)
