At the risk of beating a dead horse here..............I will never accept the LI for what it is and how it was brought to us. The total lack of respect given to us as parents by our own BOE and Superintendent was, and still is, unacceptable. I can honestly say that, so far, my 6th grader is quite happy at his new school. I would NEVER squash that enthusiasum. But I can also say that I hope that this is changed back, or at the very least, revised by the time my 3rd grader gets to 5th grade. As for the supporters coming to this site, well, some supporters post things just to antagonize which ruins it for the supporters that have legitimate concerns or thoughts. I also think that the supporters forgot (?) that this site is mainly for the people who oppose the LI. They had a site for the supporters and it didn't work out. If you come here to post positive things about the LI, you have to be prepared for what comes after. Maybe they are not happy with the responses they get to their posts? Just my opinion

I think many supporters are quiet because it is done and they are happy. You can choose to search for problems, however most supporters I know are happy. I have a 6th grader at Riley and my home school closed and my so has continued to come every day and tell me how much he likes Riley. And no he was not in a class with his best friends. Sure lunch lines can be slow, however I have heard this complaint since my kids were in 1st grade. Frankly, the bus ride is a tiny bit longer for my son in Riley , but a bit shorter one for son at Holmes. You can kid yourself and say supporters are not happy, but just as with the recall, many supporters don't have to say things. We all know that happy people are quieter than unhappy people. I also don't think anyone wants to sound like they are gloating. By the way, I do think most parents are happy ar Riley and/or are comfortable that their kids are getting a good education and making new friends. BTW - last count of PTA members at Riley is approximately 425. |

I don't think ALL supporters are not happy, but I can count 3 right off the top of my head that supported the LI that are now quite unhappy with it for a variety of reasons. Size of 5/6 schools, bus rides, "specials"..... you name it. Question, who do you think would be gloating? |

I personally know many people that supported the board/plan and have since changed their minds. |

425 PTA members at Riley is not even 50% of the parents. That is much lower than I have seen in years past. As to what "supporters" are thinking...I would think some are happy and some are not. It's hard to say how many of each. Same with "opposers." Personally, I am trying very hard to just wait and see. My kids do not take the buses, but I continue to hear complaints from people (at PTA meetings, Curriculum Nights, Open Houses and just out and around) about late buses at Coolidge and Riley. Since I am just getting to meet people at my kid's new schools, I have no idea what their opinions are of the LI or the BOE. I am trying to do more listening than talking right now. All I can say that the complaints I hear are primarily from people that were not active with either CFLF or LivoniaCares. |

For the record, my son is very happy at Cooper; loves having a locker, playing the saxaphone, two gym classes per week and has made alot of new friends with kids he never knew before. He has also connected with hockey and baseball teammates from years past. He also gets home earlier with the bus than he got walking home from McKinley. |

Just wanted to say that I still support the LI but have moved on from visiting this forum daily. I don't see the point in reading about all the complaints from the few that post here over and over again. By the way many of the complaints are in regards to things that were happening long before the LI but the LI is getting blamed. So if it makes you all feel better to think that supporters are no longer vocal because we are unhappy with things then so be it. I'm not surprised at all that this is the way it is viewed. My opinion is though that when people are happy with things they do not speak out and when they are not they do speak out. Who knows though. It amazes me that opposers are still insisting that all the supporters of the LI don't have children and are not affected by the LI. Personally there are many better uses of my time now that school has started then spending all day at the computer. For those of you that are really trying to make this work for the kids even though you opposed the LI, I have great respect and admiration for you!

Shorter walk times are great--but is there another LI concept that makes you like the new situation? AK |

Interesting that you view these posts as "complaints" rather than as valid concerns. Along the same lines as AK...what has been academically more positive or beneficial for your kids under the LI? |

We have just begun to fight!
|
Many of those who stood by and did nothing to support or resist the changes are now feeling the consequences of not getting involved. I would hope that many of those persons would take th opportunity to come and hear what the CFLF has to say on Wednesday, Oct 4th at 7:PM in the hall at St. Mary's church on Merriman just north of 6 mile rd |

Strongsupporter and insupport, Perhaps people come here to complain because they are still frustrated with the whole thing? Perhaps people still come here and voice their concerns because no one else is listening to them? Example-Transportation, BOE, Dr. Liepa......... Do you really feel that children walking into school 10-20 minutes late everyday and disrupting class is good for student learning? We are 3 weeks into the year and they (Dept of Trans) still don't have it worked out. When and what are they going to do about it??? All anyone ever sees from Dr. Liepa is how great things are going via mailed brochures. And those brochures don't tell the whole truth, IMO

I am an opposer and I have found the site to be very negative with too many devil's advocates lately. I can't even bring myself to post anymore because it is such a downer. I'm sorry. I am still against the LI but I just can't take it anymore. I appreciate all of those fighting the good fight and I have your back. But, for my sanity I need a break. Hugs to all of you. |

My daughter is very happy at Riley. She likes the instumental music a lot!! She also likes being in a school of "Upper" elementary. I'm sure it helps that her teacher is fabulous!!!!! |
