Will you still be happy when the district has to increase class size and cut programs?

Yes, I will still be happy because he will still be getting a first rate education at school and at home.

Garfield, you support the LI, correct?  In the face of a 500 student loss and budget cuts looming, what do you think should be done?  Forge ahead with the LI? lose it?

I am a supporter of the LI, but my opinion doesn't mattter on this website. I have no answers that will make you happy. I am through posting what I find positive. It will just be picked apart. Many people on this website will never be happy. I am personally happy with the education my child is getting and know of many others who are also happy.

But weren't you happy with your child's education last year, too? My point is, was all this anguish worth it? If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

More importantly, are you happy that this plan has cost the district -- our children -- millions of dollars????????

If you want positive, just watch a BOE meeting. That group is so busy blowing smoke and adjusting the mirrors it makes me sick. They turn a two million dollar loss into an achievment. If it wasn't for the group that posts on this site that group would still be getting away with anything they wanted. That is the best thing that came about from the LIe, the involvement of parents, whether they are Pro or Con LIe.

I don't think BOE elections will be what they used to be. There will be two parties, The Nepotists, and PARENTS! B)

People who continue to support LIe even after this terrible enrollment news, remind me of a scene from A Night to Remember, and the movie Titanic.

The ship is sinking and in order to help disguise the dire situation, the band is ordered on the 1st class deck to play festive music as people board the lifeboats.

Unfortunately, in real life all the band members were lost at sea, all the while supporting the idea that "all's well" <_<

I think it would have been better as a fill in the blank: "I love that the LI gave us _________ which we didn't have last year and it was worth all the upheaval and school closings to have it."
That way if someone says "the opportunity for my child to make new friends" -- they will stop and think "was having this really worth losing students, closing neighborhood schools, pi$$ing off tons of people, increasing bussing...."

So, if your child is happy, then let the system sink? It's good that they're happy, but were they unhappy last year??? Was it not better to leave things as they were, invest another year in study and make sure it would work? What the BOE has done is put our once respected district into worse shape than it was in before their LI. And if the majority of students that left because of the LI do not come back (which I would be surprised if they did) we'll be in even worse shape next year.

Exactly! The "blended count" next fall will be shocking! Remember, all school districts that implemented such radical plans AGAINST the PARENTS, saw huge losses of students the second year too.

Most supporters do not have kids in K-12. Couldn't the BOE figure out that the parents with kids in K-12 were the ones they should have been most concerned about listening to. I know everyone pays taxes but the parents are the only people that have the power to pull their kids out of LPS, therefore leading to a decrease in revenue.

Sorry LIEpa and BOE, you were CLEARLY warned what would happen if you implemented this disaster. You all will have some tough times ahead of you because of your arrogance and imcompetence. Have fun telling all of the union leaders about all of the cuts that will be made next year because of your failed plan that put "job security" first in line, not the kids.

So, not only does the LIe make things worse for the kids, parents, property values, it now will hurt the employees and the unions.

LEAVE LIVONIA LIEPA!!!

So, if we are down 520 this year, and lets say another 450 next fall, what is the blended count for Fall 2007? When our we affected by that number in 2007? How much money are we down assuming we get $8500 per student? I think I know, but maybe someone else can do the math.

This years total count is 17612. If we lose an additional 450 next year, we will be down to 17162 as a total headcount.

The blended count for 07/08 would be:

(0.25 x 17612) + (0.75 x 17162) = 17275

This year' is 17,742.

If we lost an additional 450 next year, the effect would be a blended count loss of 467, which translates into 467 x $8490 = $3,964,830 at this year's rate.

As you can see, the "blended count" method delays the full impact but it does catch up...

It seems the supporters are getting desperate these days. Questioning the integrity and character of ordinary citizens who speak before the board is truly a 'new' low. It's right up there with phoning the senior citizens to tell them that their taxes would increase if they voted 'yes' to the Recall. How low can they go?

Anyone who posts, "You guys are so negative, blah, blah, my kid's bus is on time..and, I love the incredibly diminishing 'specials,'" must be students of Dale Carnagie's School of Mind Control.

????

Nice reply Anna. I did nothing other than to post how this is having a positive affect on my son and his education. I also offered my opinion on the people who frequent this site (you can't deny the negativity) and for that I am a student in the school of mind control. If telling the truth makes me a student, then so be it.

I admit that my quip may have offended, but why, exactly, do you like LI?

What bene have you noted?

The supporters don't seem connected to the situation, which has district-wide negative implications.

Help me out--prove me wrong.
