The supporters of the LI were SO vocal before the start of the school year. We heard how great the plan would be and how smoothly things would run. It's funny, I'm not hearing those same things from you anymore. In fact, we really aren't hearing from you at all. I am getting the distinct feeling that alot of you are realizing that this plan isn't what it was promoted to be and that things aren't really going to smoothly. How are supporters feeling these days? Any converts? |

Things not going smoothly is an understatement. And lets not forget the large underestimate of how many kids left LPS. We will find out about that soon. I would not speak either. |

A neighbor of mine was a huge supporter of the LI, and just the other day, she was actually complaining about late her kid gets home. She doesn't have time to get him fed and to football practice... All the while she's complaining, she's yelling at the kid every 5 seconds to hurry up and run home from the bus stop. Poor kid-packed into the huge 5/6, no friends in his class, gets home to late to get to practice, AND gets yelled at all the way home from the stop-great plan for kids! It's not surprizing that the supporters are gone--any with young kids must be having some second thoughts at least. |

Actually, I for one would really like to hear how they feel about it. I want to know what the successes are. I also promise I won't gloat if any of you have reservations. If that is the case, maybe we can pool our collective resources and demand that LPS make the necessary changes. |

They are not here because you cannot defend what is happening... ie: the chaos. I mean what are they going to say....we love the fact that our childrens bus is at a different time everyday and the kids are late for school. We love that our childrens bus is an hour late. We love the fact that our children do not have text books....they just have xerox copies of one. They dont dare!!!!!! |

Just remember that the BOE betrayed our trust. We then got mad. Imagine how they must feel, since they tusted them that much more than we did. I wonder if they'll get mad? Do you think they will come out to vote for Scheel and Freeman in May? |

We have just begun to fight!
|
It would be best if we could all work together to help resolve issues and move forward to improve the schools, the community, and best of all, verify student achievement goals. We all need to set previous differences aside and become advocates for the LPS educational system. A system that excels will provide for increased enrollment, increased capacity, increased employment, and best of all....a source of pride and respect within our community... and a system that is envied and sought after by other communities. We have a long way to go... we used to be there... we can be there again. All it takes is the involvement and commitment of everyone to make it a reality. Be a part of the solution, join your local community organization that is striving to become the advocates for the children, parents, educators, and the community... Join with the Citizens for Livonia's Future to make a difference. |

Presumably the Observer will have an article with the student count on Thursday. The Holland Sentinel always runs an article (usually front page) on the counts for all the local districts and charters on the Thursday after count day. More important than the total count would be an analysis of the count on a grade by grade basis, with comparisons to previous years in your district, and with comparisons to other local districts. Presumably CFLF will request this data from the district and perform such an analysis. |

Frankly, I think the silence is deafening on both sides. You don't hear from the majority of supporters because many don't even have school-aged children so they have no experiences to share. The opposers have been very quiet too -- very, very few letters to the editor of the O&E and audience communication at board meetings has been reduced significantly. My guess is the supporters have nothing to say and the opposers are learning to live with the changes. |

I'm an opposer and I'll never learn to live with it. My feeling is most opposers are demoralized at the moment. I've run into acquaintances from the now closed Adams Elem. and it's all long faces. I have to think many supports are second guessing the LI. |

You raise a valid point that many of the supporters are quiet because they do not have children in the system. That is probably very true. Maybe when they see their property values drop because of no neighborhood schools they will change their tune. Only time will tell. As for the LI opposers, I believe many of them are quiet because they are taking a wait and see approach. I don't believe they are "learning to live with the changes" as you state. I haven't met an opposer yet who has resigned themselves to the idea that this is a done deal. Again, only time will tell. |
