We are at a loss with my son's teacher in first grade. She is so concerned with "penmanship" that the kids don't want to do writing workshop because they are afraid of her.
She has told the class to "shut up" on more than one occassion and most of the parents are getting tired of it but won't say anything except at pick up!
Did anyone else have her and could they give us some helpful hints to survive the rest of the year?

I have never had her. My neighbor did have her and she loves her. It doesn't sound like her experience was anything like yours. I am so sorry that is happening to your child! That is absolutely horrible. Penmanship is developmental and for many boys they don't even have the control until they are in 3rd grade!

Sorry my kids do not go to Grant......but I would talk to the principal. I would....it certainly would not hurt.

I have a daughter in 1st grade now....and I think its important to get the kids really interested in school and set up good habits early. I would not want my children to be afraid their teacher/school.

Best suggestion yet - Talk to the teacher about your concern. Have you done that already? If so, then talk to the princiPAL. That is my helpful hint.

Please don't use teachers names on the website. A little praise is fine, but when it comes to classroom concerns it opens up a bad precident. I don't want to go there. Use the PM feature if you would like to talk to someone about it one on one.

Anyone could easily figure out the teacher now just by checking the LPS website and eliminating schools and teacher names. Not right.

I think Jimid, the forum moderator, already took care of it and handled it with respect and brevity. I don't think there needs to be any "shaming" going on. The point was made and taken...

My son goes to grant, I think the principal is very approachable, I would definately talk to her, we had an incident earlier in the year, not related to this topic at all, but none the less the principal acted swiftly, and we have had no problems since.
