 Have a daughter heading to Hoover for Kindergarden next school year and need KSACC, went to register for HOOVER KSACC tonight to find out it's FULL! We were told that Returning Hoover families and siblings filled it at last nights registration. There is no back up plan, we are basically on or own. We were asked to sign up for the wait list and call Wayne County Childcare Council for back up. Wondering if teh schoolboard gave anythought to Livonia families who utilize SACC when proposing LI configuration? By no means do I want to come across as angry w/ Jackie and her team, they are excellent and have many challenges w/ this new configuration. If there's a great enough demand, how can we support the SCAA team in advocating for space at Hoover?

There are waiting lists for SACC every year at most schools. This has always been a challenge. Before this year many schools did not have KSACC and if you wanted it you had to attend kindergarten at a school that had it. I have no idea where you live but my son went to learning tree south for 1/2 day when in kindergarten. They provide the transportation and they have a really good program called kindergarten enrichment. I believe you can do morning or afternoon. There is also a north center. Hope you get into SACC but if not maybe this will help. Good Luck! |

We have just begun to fight!

What is not fair is the fact that they did not inform the parents from schools that are closing that the existing KSACC and SACC's already have waiting lists every year for thier own school populations. So, as a result of the LI these programs were never expanded adequately to handle the loads...another thank you from the LPS and BOE and too bad for the families A direct result of the LI |

First, you need to separate your discussion between KSACC & SACC. Historically, some SACC programs have waitlists; others don't. With KSACC, spots have always filled up quickly. I had heard the "horror stories" about getting to registration early and was in line several hours before registration opened in order to secure my spot. And this was several years ago. KSACC has always (at least in recent years) given preferential treatment to returning and Jackson center families with registration a day before it is opened to "new" families. Just because you weren't able to get in to KSACC this year does not mean that SACC won't be available to you next year when your child is in 1st grade. KSACC tends to have a greater demand for spots because of the 1/2 day of kindergarden. So, assuming all things were equal, you probably would have been out of luck anyway because of the returning families. KSACC has never been offered at all schools. In fact, at one time, your child did not always attend kindergarden at their "home" school. |
