Last summer there was a rumor that Hull school was being leased to St. Mary's Hospital - before the LI was even presented to us. Does anyone know whether our school superintendant was already on the board of St. Mary's when this occured or after? Either way it appears inappropriate and I am curious whether anyone has checked this out?

We don't even go to Hull, but we heard the same "rumor".

They were talking of turning it into an out-patient physical therapy facility. Wonder how all the people who live around Hull will like all the added traffic in and out of their sub?

I think he was just appointed wasn't he? I remember reading it in the paper I think.

Well, St Mary Hospital already has a day care center. A pretty nice one, actually.

I can't imagine St. Mary's church would lease a day care so far away from their own facility. And also, aren't there many St. Mary's churches around. One in Redford AND Detroit?

Anyway, who really knows if they (LPS) are going to lease Hull? We probably won't find out until after it's already done :(

The rumor at the beginning of the school year was that St. Marys Hospital was going to lease Hull for use as a day care center. This was also rumored to be a "done deal". We have been told that this is under consideration, and a possible use for the school. The neighborhood is mobilized and ready to give its input on ANY possible use of the property.

St.Mary's hospital has planned for some time, and has now received approval for zoning variances to proceed with thier expansion/renovation. Could part of thier expansion/renovation be eliminating thier existing day care area? Is this why they are looking to relocate it to Hull?

I asked the staff at the daycare about this in January. I was told that the director of the daycare had visited the Hull site, as well as other sites, such as the vacant Frank's Nursery building. The hospital was considering using the daycare facility to house a cancer research center. However, that plan had been reconsidered, and St. Mary's is building a new facility for this. We were assured that the daycare was not closing. I really don't think that the daycare is moving to Hull.

An addition to St. Marys for a cancer treatment ctr. was before the Livonia Planning Board on Tuesday night. It will be built on where the ER is now. No mention of a day care ctr.

My point in this - and I know most of you understand is that if you are in a position of power, you need to make sure you don't appear to be profiting somehow from a deal which may seem inappropriate. I'm sure that the board for St. Mary's are great people, but to look on the up and up Dr. Leipa should not be on the board for both the BOE and St. Mary's when there is a business agreement between the two.

Don't forget he is also on the Chamber of Commerce and the LPS foundation boards.

Any conflict of interests there? <_<

Maybe they should move their offices over to Cooper. They would have a lot more room in case they need to hire some more staff!
