I have been so focused on what I don't want the district to look like that I haven't really given much thought to what I do want it to look like. Many of you have ideas, I just know it... :) If we could have the "perfect" school district what would be the top 10 things that our schools would have? (Let's leave the C.O and the B.O.E. out of this and just put what we would want for our kids.)

Great topic!
Here are mine...
Great teachers
small class sizes
intermural sports for middle school
after school clubs/activities for elementary
Foreign language starting in early elementary
Lots of people at PTA meetings
Field trips to be more consistent in all schools(same for each school)
Lots and Lots of parent volunteers in all schools.
Okay I know this isn't 10 but it's all I can think of right now.

I like a lot of what is on your list. I don't like the foreign language piece because it becomes a fluff piece that is a waste of time. I say this from seeing it tried in other districts. The time it needs isn't dedicated to it.

Any other thoughts, specifically about curriculum and or school-centered things that could be changed if we can halt this initiative.

Grade K-6 configuration and art, music, and PE as core classes. A second recess for all elementary kids. Also, having the kids come home at a reasonable time so family time and other activities can still be done. :D

What a novel idea!

And that was a no-brainer. Wonder why some people just don't get it?

My top ten would include....

Great teachers as well
Foriegn Language at the elementary level
Accelerated Reading Program
School busses for all field trips
6th Grade camp
School activities such as drama club, art club, math club, chior and so on.....
More time to eat lunch
Healthier and better lunch choices
Every 5th and 6th grade student to have the opportunity to learn to play a musical instrument
Intermural sports in Elementary ( like floor hockey etc..)
Better communication from the school.

Forgive me if some schools have these programs already....but I have noticed that some schools offer much more than others. How about making certain programs uniform....and offer at all the schools. But maybe that just boils down to parental involvement!

What are some things that you would like to see that are wouldn't be able to happen in a 4/5 school? I am trying to put together a list.

Thanks all!
