Planning/Implementation grants are awarded on a competitive basis. Successful applicants may receive awards of up to $150,000 for up to three (3) years, depending upon the availability of funds received by the State of Michigan from the United States Department of Education. Applications for the Planning/Implementation Grant will be available on the Michigan Electronic Grant System (MEGS) in June. Persons considering applying for the Dissemination Grant Program should attend the afternoon session. The purpose of this part of the Grant Program is to provide funding on a competitive basis for public school academies that have been in operation for at least three (3) consecutive years, have not received a Dissemination Grant in the past, and have demonstrated overall success including: * substantial progress in improving student achievement; * high levels of parent satisfaction; and * the management and leadership necessary to overcome initial start-up problems and establish a thriving, financially viable charter school. Funds totaling $800,000 may be made available for activities consistent with the grant program criteria. The amount of individual grant awards will depend upon the number and quality of the proposals received, the amount of funds requested and the recommendations of the grant reviewers and the Michigan Department of Education. The purpose of this grant is to fund proposals that will support activities that improve public schools or open new schools (including public charter schools) and share the lessons learned by charter schools with other public schools. Successful applicants must have data demonstrating that currently implemented programs succeed as best or promising practices and must use the funds, if awarded, to share with another school. Grantees may receive up to two (2) years of funding through this grant. Applications for the Dissemination Grant will be available on the Michigan Electronic Grant System (MEGS) in July.
