I am also curious as to the answers to anothermoms questions. Why would the quality of LPS go down if we open our doors to other district? |

I think someone tried to explain that the per pupil funding would be less unless a tuition piece was implemented...? I hope I spoke correctly for the other person. I personally have taught school of choice students in another district and I found the parents to be incredibly supportive and invested in their children's education. The children on the otherhand were incredible challenging and showed a lack of respect for students and staff. It was the most challenging and draining year I have ever taught. Yet, I loved it and wouldn't have traded that experience for the world. After I left I realized how hard the situation was and I could see why the turnover of staff was high. I am not saying that I am against it, but I am saying that it is hard for all involved. Hard for teachers and students. So, you have to know what to expect and be prepared to start fresh every year... which isn't a bad thing... Just my 2 cents. |

Ask parents of Churchill students to speak to their kids about who causes the most trouble in their school. MOST will say that the majority of trouble, not ALL, is caused by out of district kids. Many of the out of district kids are just trying to get a better education than their local school district can supply. Not all are bad kids. IMO if we open the doors to LPS this will only make the problems worse. I would also agree with CMIC in his above post. Many of the out of district kids DO show a lack of respect for teachers and students. Hence the high staff turn over. CMIC was lucky enough to be able to leave. We will be able to leave only after putting our house on the market like the other 1,000 houses in Livonia. Do you think parents in districts such as Farmington, Farmington Hills, Southfield, Brighton, Milford etc. are just waiting for LPS to open their doors? Especially after this LI mess. Please don't put words in my mouth and imply I am saying this is a racial issue. I believe it is more of a value and upbringing issue. Out of district kids are not a new problem. This issue has been swept under the rug for years for fear of losing the money these kids bring in. |

Back to the Steve King platform...I think he should stay away from catchy slogans and just tell us what he stands for. I won't vote for JAM, but I agree with what someone else said... where has he been though all of this? I haven't heard his name a whole lot with regard to stopping this LI. I'd hate to think he feels this election is all but sewn up for him just because so many people aren't going to vote for JAM. He could lose to her if he doesn't start to do a better job of getting his name out there as someone who's trying to work with the community. I honestly don't know anything about him...and I think we should by now, don't you? |

Agree, Agree, Agree-------I am absolutely opposed to open enrollment, that means we can have kids from anywhere in Wayne county apply for spots, no thank you!! Royal Oak schools have open enrollment and I have had several friends pull their kids out due to a decline in the "type" of students at the schools, the schools became rougher, and the economic mix of the school changed drastically. I am not in favor of this for livonia schools----let's find other ways of saving money---I'm sure we can think of 100 ways other than opening our doors to anyone!!! I WILL not vote for a candidate who stand for this........does anyone know Steve Kings stance on it??? |
