Let's pack the meetings like we did at CHS and give Steve King our support! Let's make sure to wear RED to show our opposition to the LI and JAM! I agree we need to contact the PTSA and the BOE to let them know "WE" will be there! |

I would think membership to the PTA - seeing as it's the largest in the state should merit a seat at the PTSA forum. Largest PTSA this year again! |

I am opposed to the LI as well, but I think it is very important to listen to what Steve King supports. I am going to be extra cautious from now on and make sure that I don't just vote anyone into office. This has been a valuable lesson. I am looking for a candidate that is against outsourcing and privatization and supports unions. Tall order, I know and I know there will be people lined up to slam me for my thoughts.

If I recall correctly, I believe Mr. King is all for outsourcing. If it helps cut costs AND provides a quality service I don't know how you can't look at it. I have several friends that know numerous employees of LPS. Many of the employees are said to be VERY VERY nervous about King beating out JAM and fear losing their jobs to outsourcing. CMIC, I am not slamming you and I understand your profession. I have agreed with almost all of your previous posts, but in these extremely hard times I don't think any job is untouchable. That includes jobs within LPS. I would NEVER want a teacher/LPS employee to lose their job, but if money can be saved by some form of outsourcing then I believe it should at least be looked at. After all, in my opinion the whole L.I. was designed so that LPS would not lose any jobs. It is not about the kids, but rather retaining LPS jobs. |

We have just begun to fight!

Nobody should be slamming anyone based on thier choice of candidate. And if you do not agree with either candidate...don't vote. It's quite simple

CMIC, I was part of a union for many years. Unions have good points and bad points. The thing that bothered me the most was that in my office, you could be sitting next to someone who did half the work you did, but was paid the same as you, because of the Union. In the end, I quit (after 9 years). The Union I was in seemed better at protecting the rights of the bad workers than the good workers. Very frustrating. |

One bad thing about school board candidates is that it's hard to know what they are about. Nothing like this comes up in discussion. So, who knows who may support something as insane as the LI |

Regardless of our personal feelings, employees have a right to be represented by a union in the work place. This right is protected by federal law. Whether one likes unions or not, the law is not likely to change and employers, including LPS, must work with the unions that represent their employees. In Southeast Michigan where much of the rich history of the labor movement took place, many workers are members of unions. Speaking negaitively about labor unions usually only serves to divide people. We should all unite to stop the LI, regardless of our personal opinions about unions or other political issues. This is the issue that most of us have in common. Everyone will need to make their own decisions at the ballot box and eventually our new BOE will need to tackle these difficult issues. Let's not jump too far ahead. |

People should not be concerned about Mr. King. We need to remember he is only one vote out of seven! |

I think folks should be very cautious about any candidate that has ran several times in the past and never been elected - why? Why have voters not elected this person before? I think the point others are trying to raise is, just because a candidate says he or she will support your cause, what else might you also get??? (Cmic's point exactly.) |

Unfortunately, people tend to vote by name recognition. But remember Mr. King was second top vote getter to JAM, the other candidates split his vote. |

I believe in change when things are not as I like. I despise incumbents that continuously get re-elected especially when I disagree with the path that has been taken by the governing body. I will vote for King just because I do not like the status-que and would love to see things shaken up. I think the only reason he hasn't won before is due to the general lack of interest in school board elections in the past on the part of the general community. I think the bulk of the people who voted in past elections were the highly involved parents, vote every time citizens, and LPS employees and families. I think the next school board election will be significantly different in terms of voter participation resulting in the reduction of influence by the traditionally involved groups. |

I hope that many more people do vote in the elections from now on. I hope everyone studies the info about the candidates and chooses the one they think will do the best job. No disrespect but I hope people don't vote for someone "just to shake things up". There were reasons that I did not vote for Steve King in the past and I still would not vote for him now for those same reasons. This is not the place to get into those reasons. Everyone will need to decide for themselves. If you are looking for info there were some informative articles regarding Mr. King and Ms. Morgan prior to the last election. It would be interesting to compare those platforms with whatever the candidates say before this election. |
