I called around to several of the local Catholic and private schools. St. Gen's had @ that time 20 students transferring from LPS. Who know's that that number is currently. I also called St. Edith and St. Mikes. I think the total combined was @ 36 students. I also know of some parents that are home schooling their children because of the LI. I know that the BOE doesn't like our presence @ the meetings, but how else are we to get the point across to them. The LI has cost the district much more than money, it's cost them respect from the people and parents of the Livonia Public School District. That to me is a priceless item in life and you can't put a dollar value on this. |

The program that they talked about at Holmes (Ford/U of M)---why is it only available at one school? Did I misunderstand? Why wouldn't all middle school students be offered the same educational opportunities? |

This is typical in Livonia. Taylor has no 5th grade camp. Other Livonia schools do. Not one music concert at Taylor this year, but I hear other Livonia schools have many. I guess it just depends on how your principle decides to run the school. Seems to me that administration does not know how to provide uniform benefits accross the school district. Some students just get short changed. |

Four Our Kids - THANK YOU! You did a great job last night and I admire you very much! You continue to fight for ALL our kids even though you made the very difficult decision to leave LPS. There is a lot the BOE could learn from you and all the other parents who have fought so hard to stop the LI. If they would only listen to all of the parents who have done the research and STOP this NOW. Unfortunately, I feel their pride won't allow them to hear reason. Shame on them! Roosevelt will miss you and your kids very much. It makes me sad that you and other families will be leaving Roosevelt (the BOE left you no other choice). I wish you and your family all the best. |

Dear BOE, After watching the last few BOE meetings, I am even more frustrated with you. Way back when, Mr. Lessard stated that it was illegal to answer questions during meetings. I find it quite interesting that some board members attempt to answer questions when it benefits them. Well, I am only left to assume that Mrs. Morgan and Mrs. Scheel are breaking the law. This is a perfect example of why many do not believe or trust the board members. If in fact they have broken some law, why have they not been reprimanded for it??? Mr. Freeman’s “rant” last night was ridiculous. If he doesn’t care about being recalled, then why is he sitting on the board in the first place? I find that his attitude is pompous at best. He seems to think that the current board are the only ones capable of making any decisions for LPS. The people who spoke regarding the 5/6 focus group where merely explaining that they did not understand the information given at that meeting. I have even heard this from supporters. I don’t believe that each person who spoke went into that meeting with a “chip” on their shoulder!!! They went to get information and understand. You Mr. Freeman have the chip on your shoulder. Apparently, the meeting was very poorly planned and it needs to be done again with better planning and better tools for the community to respond. Instead, some board members are not realizing this and making it sound like the people who spoke were just whining and twisting words. Mr. Lessard even stated that maybe another meeting should occur. People just want to be correctly informed. Have another meeting and be better prepared. Twisted information is a direct result of lack of information. Also, information that is disseminated incorrectly is not the fault of those who ask questions. It is the fault of the person who initially disseminated it!! So BOE, better get your facts straight before you accuse people of twisting information. Some of your people are guilty of twisting information before it even gets to the public! This is a PR nightmare and it truly shows how unprepared you are to implement such a plan. If I want to gamble, I go to a casino. I suggest you do the same. Gamble with your own money and not our children’s education money. To think that I once respected you makes me sick. I’m embarrassed to admit that I even voted for some of you. It won’t happen again. |

So the kids in 5/6 may not have a second recess? Remember, these kids have special needs and one of them is to have some time to blow off steam. Otherwise they'll be blowing it off in the classroom. Who came up with this idea and have they been around a 5th or 6th grader lately? |

I would like to read the research that says kids in 5/6 schools do not need a second recess. Maybe the BOE will read this and they can address it at their next meeting. |

One of the things that upset me from last nights meeting was the one lady who stood up and said that the 5/6 thing is good because the media and hollywood and all are making 5/6 graders grow up faster so we should have them in their own environment and away from the K-4. Okay, so let's encourage and enable our 5/6 graders to follow the media and hollywood and go ahead and grow up faster. Oh yea, why we're at it, let's buy the sleezy outfits and let our children wear them to school. Yea, okay......NOT. I want the 5/6 graders to STAY in with the K-4 so they will stay YOUNGER as long as they can. I would like my daughters to not have to grow up as fast as they can.....to stay young as long as possible. I want them to be with the K-4 to learn responsibility of helping the younger classes. To be the Teacher Assistants, Service Squad, Reading Buddys, etc... That just bothered me so much to say that well, since they're growing up faster we should move them to their own environment. I really do not agree with that. |

She gets up there to speak about how 10-11 year olds are more advanced for their age and thinks that segregation is the answer? Since when is she qualified to speak on behalf of other people's children? She tried to generalize all children in that age group. I don't let my children watch inappropriate things on t.v. and my daughter is not allowed to dress inappropriately. I found her comments insulting. What's next? If she doesn't think that 10-11 years old should mix with 8-9 year olds, what do you do when the bell rings? The concept is just ridiculous. I guess parents should just have one child because mixing different age groups in the same household might have a negative effect?

Is that DTT spokeswoman (nicknamed Miss Merry Sunshine in our house) an LPS employee? What did she do before she received this esteemed leadership position? It was like she stood up and said how wonderful, magnificent and heart-warming the 5/6 focus groups were and then the parents stood up and complained about them. I don't follow the 5/6 special stuff because I have little kids but was she just blowing smoke to impress the board? Everything she describes is so rosey -- she just can't be sincere. Also, did I hear correctly that the guy from the janitors union said they were part of the demo committee?? They had janitors on the committee but so few parents???? I am glad his union gets along with the current board so well but it has nothing to do with the LI. |

Yes, she is an LPS employee. I think her official title is something to do with business partnerships.. |
