My child is in lower el and already had recess (twice a day) and weekly...art, vocal music, PE, computers (that's what they call it). Now are these going to be regarded as specials for the 5/6 group? |

How is this a Bait & Switch?? Mrs. Alles was quite clear that the schedule and frequency and all the other details have not been worked out yet. How can someone tell you that the kids will go to the library every 2-3 weeks, when we don't even know what teachers will be in what buildings??? The are offering the same thing they offer the kids today: gym, art, and music, with additional language, computer graphics, instrumental music and IT classes. The art and music definitely sounded "enhanced" to me, and the IT they discussed is not the same thing as "computer lab". How is this not enhanced? And why is it BS? Because we lost the injunction and the LI is moving forward, and the administration held a focus group to get parents' input on what we wanted the specials to look like???? |

I don't believe the "offerings" at the 5/6 level will be anything worthwhile. They took away instrumental music before and they can take it away again. I don't trust them nor do I believe them when they "promise" things to our children. I think I lot of parents will feel different about the "supposed specials" this fall. I predict there will be a lot of parents complaining about the 5/6 set-up. The LI will NOT solve the district's financial problems. It is a bad plan for the future of LPS. Cuts will have to be made in the future. Where do you think they will make them? Stayed tuned..... |

Does anyone know if the instruments offered will be new or used? It sounds like a big expense. |

They are not called specials at my child's school, at least not in the lower el and that is what I was referring too. |

I have 2 lower el students. And both of them say specials. Sorry I guess each school is different. |

Well like I said, mine doesn't. And as a frequent volunteer at my child's school, I have never heard them called "specials" by the teacher, my child, or other parents. |

By their names...music, art, gym, and computer lab. They also give parents a note at the beginning of the year to let us know what days they have music, art, gym, and computer lab. You can also add library once a week too. Forgot about that! |
