So if you really want to know what your kids class size will be, ask and be specific. Be sure you get that number. Be sure you are getting what was promised to you.

I see and understand your point Jimid but I'm sure this would be one of those unanswered questions..or one they can't answer yet. They seem to always have an excuse for these questions. Does anyone know how many 5th and 6th grade teachers Riley will have? I have never heard a number and this might be a way to get a rough estimate of how many children would be per class. I will attempt to ask that specific questions though. Can't hurt to try.

Tell me if I am wrong, but I was left with the impression that the major reasons we are doing this is to keep the class sizes low. In the 25-27 range. Thats what I took from the pre-vote meetings. Is that being backed off from now? Will they be larger?

Reminds me of Ms. Morgan's quote about kids not getting home after 4:30PM.

The promise is only good until they decide to break it.

I was told by a teacher/parent at my school that there would be 15-17 5th and 6th grade classes at each of the three upper el's.
They won't know until summer when they know how many kids are leaving, returning, etc.
At least 15 classes of each grade she said-remember?more teacher collaboration within the same building! (WOW, what a great and innovative idea-let's do it!)

If you're not sure if small classes promote learning, just ask yourself if you'd be happy in a room with 29 other people to get your taxes done. ;)

The more one on one interaction, the better.

There should be no split classes and therefore no additional kids in the switch classes. One of the suppossed benefits of this plan is very few if any split classes.

I believe they are still working on keeping classes sizes at the 25 - 27 class size

05 / 06 students moving to the new schools: 1103 4th graders
and 1293 5th graders
plus the influx of new kids from parochial
montessori, charter, home schooled
and NEW KIDS moving into the district of 195 kids
Total projected 5th and 6th grade head count 2551
They are to be split up among the 3 buildings:
Cooper 901
Riley 928
Johnson 722
I counted all the present teachers listed on each school's
web sites. It's hard to count due to split classes but
we have about 51 - 5th grade and 50 - 6th grade teachers.
Provided all are tenured and don't lose their jobs, the
math puts about 25 kids per class and 33 per building.

We have just begun to fight!
33 classrooms per building?
Can/Do the buildings support this number of classrooms?, or is that based on teacher count?
Are all of these cirriculum rooms or are they music, art, pe,etc.. included?

When you add the specials rooms, SACC rooms, etc. I don't think there is enough space.
