I am curious as to why Hoover would be open next year just because there is a recall?
I am beginning to believe that much of this oppositions has to do with school's closing not all the other reasons I keep hearing.

Lets not stray to far from the facts. Remember this post from Elisa..

I contacted John Alspaugh, his name is most often cited and associated with the research on grade span configuration. Mrs. Alles mentioned his name (as well as others) at the board meeting on the 28th when she dismissed the research as either "rural or urban" and therefore not applicable to LPS. I wrote to Professor Alspaugh with a general request for help in clarifying the research. I explained the situation with LPS. There was a lot of info to cover, so I probably could have narrowed it down better. Hence his first comment...

"I don't know how to respond to your request. Keep in mind that most school districts have their grade level configuration because of the buildings that the districts have accumulated over a long span of years. The decisions concerning grade configurations are usually based upon money not on what is in the best interest of the students. From the data that I have analyzed I do not think that it is a rural-urban issue.

Keep in mind that there is the science of education and the politics of education. Those of us who do research in education have come to accept the idea that many educational decisions are based on politics not research."

Just asked my child and she seems to think they did make that announcement. She said it was funny because the secretary said "Breaking News". She can't remember the rest of it. I will try to verify. I would not be surprised if it did happen. The principal really overstepped on this one in my opinion if it did happen.

You know what, I am sitting here right now with my niece, and I just don't have the heart to bring it up. How do you ask a third grader that? I won't do it. I am very pissed off that I am even put in the position to think about asking. I will, however find out.

So, I will just stick to things that are verifiable now.

I just asked if there were any announcements over the PA and she spilled the rest. I just said thanks and she went on her merry way. I try not to seem like it was a big deal. She had no idea what I was fishing for.

Yes, it pisses me off too that we are being put in a situation that we have to ask. What the heck are they thinking???

We have just begun to fight!
I am so sorry to say this, but, if that can be absolutely proven then that administrator needs to be removed from her position immediately.

Now for the reality of the situation....If this is really true, it would take the school district approximately 2 years before this administrator, if found guilty, would be able to be removed from her position/contract based on the current contracts and agreements betwween LPS and the MEA. Part of the overall problem with the LPS administration at this time is they have no desire, no incentive, no ambition to take on the union contracts that allow events like this to occur, or to prevent any further occurrances of situations that are completely under the control of the union contracts. This is what your tax dollars are spending money on, not education, but union arbitrations and exploding pension and benefit packages for the administration.

Again, the this kind of talk is counter productive and subjective. Do you have a contract? Have you personally examined it? Do you feel that this kind of explosive wording is productive to anyone? This gets my ire up, but we all know this... I just need to learn not to take the bait... but I am really tired of this. We always turn to this issue when we feel backed into a corner. Respectfully, get more creative or open a forum topic that is completely on union bashing so that those of us that don't want to be a part of it can choose not to read the propoganda instead of being surprised with it when we come across it in other topics.

I think that would be fair. <_<

When I go up to the school tomorrow, I will ask her if it was said.

I do not think someone should lose their job over this. That would be going way to far and isn't going to happen. It was the wrong thing to do. A public apology would do nicely.

My daughter attends Hoover now and will be at Reilly next year :( . I asked her about the announcement and she said there was "something about something" that she didn't understand. The fact that she didn't know about the law suit and her lack of attention to details (which for once worked to her advantage) left her pretty clueless to the whole thing. I am glad the announcement didn't upset her, but I am sure there were other kids (who pay more attention to this kind of thing) who were impacted. :(

On another note...The administrator at Hoover will be moving to Cass next year, which I would think is like a demotion considering how small Cass will be compared to Hoover next year.

I agree no one should lose their job over this. I think it should be brought to someone's attention though, because I do not think it was appropriate.

A verbal or written reprimand, perhaps?

Something should be done in any event, so she does not do the same thing (use the school p.a. system for unofficial business) again!

You are correct. The uproar has to do only with school closings since all other programs and student services are being saved and improved in some cases. It is nice to see the Board of Education has found a way to not eliminate programs or increase class sizes. :)
