for our kids
Mar 11 2006, 08:43 AM
Both my 1st & 4th graders, along with  3 of my neighbors children have been enrolled @ St. Genevieve for next year.  That's 5 total, 5 x $8260.00 per pupil = $41,300.00 taken away from LPS budget next year.

I called around to some of the catholic schools around the area. I could account for 38 kids transferring from LPS to their schools. I also spoke with two other parents who stated they were going to pull their kids out of LPS. Two kids were going to be home schooled, they other was going to enrolled her children in catholic schools, but hasn't started the process yet. I'm sure with the judge delaying the injunction proceeding for 90 days that you will see a lot more activity @ the private schools this week. Sorry BOE, your plan isn't going to save you as much money as you thought!

40 X 8260 = $330,440.00 you will be loosing so far for next year. I'm sure there will be more!!!!!!

P. S. These figures didn't include k's for next year. So who knows how much they really are going to loose.

GREAT WORK! Let's see what else we can find out!!

Count my 2 out as well as the 2 of close friends. One will be home schooled and the other is enrolled at Northville Christian. Oh, and 2 others that just moved to Northville, still in LPS currently but won't be in the fall.

Well, addition was wrong. I should of count two more in my search.
So my grand total so will be updated!

46 X 8260=363440.00

2 That have moved= 16520.00

Lost revenue so far for 2206/2007 =379,960.00!!!!!

I'm sure as the day goes by we will find more people leaving.

Northville Christian wouldn't give me information on the transferring students over the phone!

I couldn't get info from the following schools:

Northville Christian
Our Lady of Sorrows
The Montessori Schools/all three
The Lutheran Schools

Can you post where you enrolled and I will up date total. If you are home schooling, let me know that also!!!! Thanks.

Count my 2 kids in. There have been over 4000 recall signatures, in 3 weeks. It IS going to happen. I think there will still be time to stop it once they are out August 8.

Did you count St. Ediths. There open enrollment ended on Friday. We also submitted an application to there as well. We have an acceptance letter to Our Lady of Good counsel....so it is a toss up for us. But either way....count one for me gone!

Try Our Lady of Good Counsel too. She said she had parents from Livonia. Our Lady of Sorrows is popular too.

I don't think private schools offer the same level of education that public schools do. Even tho I can't stand the LI, I'm all for good, free education (well, not free, my tax dollars are paying for them). Plus, I don't want to pull my kids away from all their friends just because I'm unhappy with the system.

My niece and 2 nephews go to OLGC and my b-i-l- and s-i-l love it. A very good school if you can afford to send to private. The oldest is graduating from 8th grade this year and is headed to Catholic Central in the fall.

I tend to agree with you. I attended private school all throughtout my education. I certainly did not have all the same opportunities of those kids that attended public school. The whole LI makes me sick but I will not pull my children out either.

Actually that is false. I am a public school teacher and I used to hold the same opinion until I spent time at St. Mike's and started seeing the calibur of students coming out of their institutions. Do you have personal quanitfiable experiences that make you think they aren't as good. Their test scores are almost always higher than public schools.

Of course private schools' test scores will be higher. They can be selective of whom they choose to enroll in their programs. Public education is designed to meet the needs of all learners.
