I wish my daughter would have had the opportunity to go to a 5/6 school. I believe it would have been a great opportunity for her. I have a difficult time defining the extra move as a transition when they are going with their peer group. It is the same school district, same rules, same programs, same kids, different building. Don't think it is psychologically damaging.

48154,
Although, I am loath to be sarcastic...
I can't wait for my son to got to a 5/6 school. That way he can change schools for the 3rd time, be sure to never really get to know more than a few staff members, only go to the Library once every 2 or 3 weeks, play at lunch recess with 500 other minimally supervised kids, go from 5th thru 6th grade with his peer group of 960 strangers, at least minimally suffer academic loss, self esteem loss, and reduced feeling of security in his school environment, etc...
Then he can look forward to an hour bus ride home!
Great, can't wait to send him to this fabulously innovative school program!

Sorry, couldn't help it!

Seriously though, the 5/6 will not have the same programs (less recess and phy ed, less library, etc), or same rules (no way you can have 1000 5/6 kids in a school with the same rules), or same kids(big difference in number of kids-smaller schools=more security). It will be psychologically damaging for some and academically for many.

I won't put my kids through that-I will try to move (will be sure to sell to a retired or childless couple)

My house is going up for sale this month. If we are still around he will be home schooled till the house does sell.

Also you said everything I was thinking all day .......... thank-you.

I don't know how much your house is worth but I heard on the radio the other day -- if it is between $300,000-$400,000 plan on one year to sell.

I am afraid you would have to "give your house away" to sell by the time school starts. I told my friend who is looking for new houses to try Livonia -- huge inventory and many desperate sellers.

Yes, we will probably take a loss, but we would pay for private school anyway. Risk I am willing to take. Much better to lose a bit of money that to send my kis to this ridiculously unsupported, incomplete plan that this crazy BOE are implementing.

I am more than willing to give up Money to take my child out of this mess :) The sign went up on Fri. and after 24 years yes we will take some what of a loss . I feel the well being of my child is well worth it. My son will finish out this school year and if the house is not sold by Sept. he will be home schooled by me. :D
