LPS is short of bus drivers today. My daughter who gets picked up at around 7:30, didn't get picked up until 8:10. Different driver and bus. Maybe the union doesn't like all the part time bus drivers being hired? Or, could be just a coincidence. But, it's never happened before.... |

I know you would like to think that everyone is against the plan including many employees because it would support your cause. However I think it is a stretch to attribute things like this as having anything to do with the plan. In fact this has happened with my children occasionally over the years. Usually as a result of a bus problem or a legitimate employee sickness. I respect your views but it seems as if anything that happens now there are some people who try to make a big deal out of it by somehow linking it to the plan. All The buses in my neighborhood were on time today. |

My child's kindergarten bus was on time but stopped three houses past ours! I didn't see the driver but I am sure it was a sub. |

I don't think it has anything to do with the plan it is just a concern because it happens now and what is going to happen when there are twenty new bus drivers 3,700 more children riding the bus. There has always been stories about what happens on the bus but more children will be effected now. My daughter is at Holmes and a fight broke out on the bus between two girls just the other day which is why I try to drive her. The bus driver did not have a clue this was going on. Also I have watched buses more then once get lost in my sub with children on it. So no I do not think this is an L.I. problem just more concerns becuase of it. |

There comes a point during the school year when bus drivers are able to "switch" routes. This is done a seniority basis, if they don't like their route... A principal told me this information, which I believed without further investigation. So this is my source. Both my Kindergartners noon bus has a had a new driver for over a week and the regular bus also has a new driver. |

Switching routes arbitrarily? Isn't that a concern when drivers will be shifted to routes they do not know, and don't know which children usually get on and off at each stop? It sounds to me like something that should change to be more consistent and controlled so there is a higher level of reliability and safety. |

When my child took the kindergarden safety bus, there must have been at least 5 different drivers during that school year. |

You are correct. My kindergartener was on a small bus in the fall and the very nice driver told me that a driver with more seniority wanted her route. So now she is on a huge bus (with all of 10 kids on it). I was dissappointed but this is a union rule, not up to the principal. |

Our elementary school bus has 6 students with assigned seating because of behavior problems. Every time there is a substitute (and we seem to have a lot of substitute bus drivers on our run), there is a problem as these kids invariably cause a problem with each other and with younger students. All of which happens with the bus driver usually being completely unaware until it is reported to the bus garage or the school office the next day. I realize that the drivers need to focus their attention on the road but don't these people communicate with each other? It is really scarey when the substitute driver ignores the kids and turns a full size bus down our dead-end street and then can't find anyway to turn the bus around
