I have heard City Council ANSWERS questions at their meetings. They don't just stare back at you and say nothing like you're talking to a wall! I talked to another PO parent last night after the BOE meeting. She was talking about how different it is to attend C.C. meetings compared to the BOE. I think it would be a great idea to start attending those meetings also. |

I think it is important to keep up with all our city government. If I forget to post the agenda's, feel free to jump in and post them. I didn't know the council had to approve a block party! |

Yes, the City Council does answer questions at their meetings and they do have to approve block parties. It's too bad that the BOE can't. Well, I guess they do, when they feel the need to defend themselves. <_< |

Do your research and attend the CC meetings. They do answer questions and also, they do approve the land deals for developers that work with the LPS...watch the schostack, soave, roskelly, etc... names appear numerous times regarding approval for this, approval for that, waiver for use this, waiver for use that, rezone here for condo's, rezone there for more strip malls. Also, pay attention to the Zoning Board meetings - there are associated deals regarding the rezoning and use of swapped or purchased school properties there also. |

One thing I have noticed whenever I have spoken before Council is that you feel respected. They pay attention to what you are saying. No doodling, looking around, down at their notes. They actually ask you a question if there is something they are not clear about and they do answer questions also. There is no us against them vibe circling the room. Compared to speaking before the board it is a refreshing experience. Though their voting often does not go in your favor, especially if you are fighting against a developer. I at least have always felt they listened to what I was saying. |

That is as it shoud be. Having a back and forth discussion, asking questions, sharing experiences and considering different perspectives leads to the best outcomes, too. If they are able to do this without losing control of the meeting at city council, why can't the BOE? Obviously it is NOT illegal! |

Would it be out of line/putting her on the spot to ask Marecki what her "vote" or opinion of the LI is? I would think not all members of this infamous committee were 100% in support? Her membership is probably something she would not want remembered come election time. I believe she was elected for two years, and was dissapointed with the end result; thus requiring ANOTHER campaign in a short amount of time. |

What did she expect after receiving an "appointment" to the CC? She is lucky to have even made it through the election! If everyone would have remembered her from the BOE expousing how she was all for the schools and kids, and was in this for the long haul speeches, and then to abruptly jump as soon as she received a nod for CC, she may not have made it through the real election anyway. Just too many uniformed, name recognition, friends and family voters out there! |

I cannot attend as I have a sick child at home. However, just a few days ago, my husband emailed several of the CC members asking them what their opinion of the LI was. Guess what, not of them replied except for one and she did not want to discuss it thru email communication. I think it is a fabulous idea for some people to go and actually put them on the spot with regard to their opinion of the LI as it relates to: -blight within city(so many vacant school properties) -property values decline -impact on small business (after school activities) with school end times being so late -traffic concerns (20+ additional busses on the roads & many more parents dirving their kids to school) -and overall, the rude and irresponsible manner in which our BOE has treated it's constituency All of these issues will and do affect city council and their constituency. Would be great to hear what they think. Wish I could go. |

Prior to the vote in December a man stood before the CC to express his concerns about the BOE and the LI. Then President Taylor, thanked him for speaking, but there really wasn't anything that they could do. It would be nice to hear from the CC though. |

I took a drive around the city today---something I think the BOE should do---and saw red and white signs everywhere I went. I drove by a few elementary schools that I didn't know existed and very quickly felt very sad. When this city built "our" elementary schools, they took care to build them tucked away inside the neighborhoods. Many of them are so tucked away they are hard to find. I couldn't help thinking how different our city will be without these unique neighborhood schools---schools that set us apart from other surrounding communities. The city council should be concerned about these vacant buildings because of where they are situated (within established neighborhoods). If you take Hull elementary, for example, what would you put there (besides an elementary school)? The only thing that would make any sense at all would be single family homes. Where are Hull children being routed with the LI? It's so sad..... |

They will not only be taking away schools when they build on these sites, they will also be taking away the neighborhood playground... |
